EHX Pitch Fork

Yep... I saw it right after I posted my thread! D'OH!! I'll scrap this one and take a peek there...

EHX Pitch Fork

Hi ya' all, I know it's really brand new, but has anybody tried out the new pedal from EHX? The Pitch Fork, that is http://www.ehx.com/products/pitch-fork ...it seems like a veeeery good pitch shifter/octaver, and since sometimes an "octave up" effect on bass can be useful, I was wondering wether someone already gave it a try on bass! Cheers!
3. It worked! I still think that leaving the loops active (maybe just the clean one) independently from the pedal's on/off switch would have made more sense... but Billy must have had his reasons to do so.
4.
I've had an Ibanez power jack fail in the same way, and it turned out to be tiny hairline fractures in the PCB track around it rather than the socket itself. This was hard to see with the naked eye. So it may be worth tinning some fresh solder over the pads to see if that sorts it before replacing the socket.
Yep! Exactly! I didn't see it at first, but there actually was a hairline fracture on the soldering! Problem solved! (whew)
5.
The great man himself does something similar I believe. He also uses a Roles crossover in his dirty loop to return only 250-300hz and upwards from the dirty loop, also has another sig pedal in his CLEAN loop (chicken and egg?) to make it a little dirty too. More in this video: The Winery Dogs walk us through their live gear:
Hmmm... too bad I'm seeing this nowhere near my bass and rig! I have the urge to try it out and I CAN'T!!! I gotta try it out a.s.a.p. 'cause it kinda makes sense and it just might be the solution I was looking for!! (fingers crossed) Thanks a lot!
6.
FWIW, I leave the EBS pedal on all the time with an ABY pedal in the dirty loop. This way I can take advantage of the built in compression and anything in the clean loop, then kick the drive side in when needed with the ABY pedal.
Uhmm... can you be more detailed on this, maybe schematize your setup? It seems interesting... if you leave it on all the time you have a distorted sound all the time right? Or is the ABY pedal the trick, here? Because I'm not looking for a constantly distorted sound... only from time to time... Thanks!
7. Probably... But the mixing would be pretty straight, without the possibility of controlling the level.
8. Hi there, I just got the EBS Billy Sheehan pedal and it reeeeally does sound killer. My only complaint is that the loops get switched off when the pedal is not in use. I kinda hoped they would have kept on working, but probably, since the pedal is true bypass, when it's off it really sends your bass signal straight from the input to the output. One question, though... on the instruction sheet, right after the part on the insert cables to be used on the loop outputs, it says: "Note: You may also connect a mono plug directly into the insert jacks without damaging the send output. This gives you the option of mixing different sources without necessarily using the send signal." What does that mean? Any suggestions? Did someone experiment on this? Thanks! A
9. Hi ya all... I have an old Ibanez BE10 (the Bass Equalizer) that works pretty well and I really like, but has a problem with its 9V-AC adapter input. It's probably either worn out or totally oxidized, because once the pedal it's on (and working) if I just lightly touch the input connector (coming from the AC adapter) the pedal switches itself off. Then by fidgeting a little with it I can re-estabilish the power connection and get it going again, but still... it's a real pain in the ass. You can understand that while on stage, it's very easy to accidentally touch it or move it, even indirectly, so you get the picture. I accessed the circuit board and the soldering seems fine, so it's probably the metal connector inside the 9V input adapter jack (either the little metal rod in the center, or more likely the little metal plate). Does anyone know if it's easy to replace it? I think the component should be something like this one (just to give you a reference) Does someone know the exact name of that component so I can order it? Or it's more a hassle than anything and I should just get a new pedal and be done with it? It's kinda of a bummer, though... throwing away an otherwise perfectly good pedal...! Any suggestions? Thanks!
10.
The compressors are great in the new Zoom range. Probably as good as, if not better than the Boss. Only complaint is a lack of signal metering, so you have to listen carefully to dial them in.
Yup! I noticed. I had to "fine-tune" its setting by ear, 'cause as you said there are no input meters, but still, quite effective!
11. Regarding its use... do any of the compressors on the MS60b work like the famous Boss LMB-3 Bass Limiter/Enhancer? That's a very good pedal and I could get a used one for a very good price, but if any of the compressor simulators in the Zoom is just as good, I wouldn't have to buy it! I'm asking because time is running short and I can't tweak around my Zoom and try for myself... so if someone already knows some good settings, please let me know! Thanks!!
12. I asked to MarkBass' tech service (before doing some sorry-ass moves on my own! ) and they confirmed it. I can do that trick! Cheers! A'
13. Thanks, I had a split cable, in fact, but it was kinda flimsy, so that's one of the reasons I wanted to try this setup…
14. Hi there, I have a question on how to route my signal through a stereo power amp by Mark Bass (the MB-1000, actually a bi-mono) I have a preamp (different brand) which has just a single line out jack and I wanted a solution for when I need to use both channels on the PA. Unfortunately I cannot use it in bridge mode, because the cabinets I have do not match the required impedance, when the PA is operating in bridge mode. So that's out of the question. Looking at the instruction manual (here) I noticed that there are also the corresponding "link outputs" for each channel and that those take the signal right after the input, before the PAs (the diagram is on page 6 of the manual). Now, I was wondering… say I get my signal from the preamp and feed it in - for example - the MB-1000's RIGHT INPUT. Then I exit from the corresponding RIGHT LINK, with an XLR connector, and go straight into the LEFT INPUT. Would it work or would I damage something? The diagram shows that everything would happen way before the Power Amp sections… but I'm not really 100% positive about every detail involved, so I thought I'd better ask around. (And in the meantime I'll use just one channel, since both are needed only once in a while, for bigger venues…) If you have questions, or need other details, just ask… Thanks A'
15. No, I don't think it' too much rosin… I played violin as a kid, so I'm kinda used to apply the "right" amount, as my teacher taught me to.
16. Hi, I have an old Trace Acoustic TAB-100 bass combo (wooden finish version) that I'd like to sell, since I practically never use it, nowadays. The problem is that it does something weird, from time to time… shortly after I power it up it sounds very muffled and low in volume, but if I turn it off it kinda "pops alive" for a very brief moment, before turning off completely. Its volume kinda has a spike (to the level it should have been) and then rapidly dies out (being that the amp has been switched off). Then, if I switch it back on, immediately afterwards, it works normally, as far as I can tell.… as if the "have you tried turning it off and on again?" trick, really worked! Does anyone have ANY idea of what could it be?!? Since I'd like to sell it, I'd like it to be in good working condition, without that glitch! Does anyone know if it might be an easy-to-fix condition, or would it be so costly I shouldn't even bother and just throw it away? Other than that, the amp seems fine, so I'd hate to throw it away… but having it lying around the house, unused, seems kinda pointless… Thanks…!
17. Thanks, probably the tightening of my grip (I gotta watch that!) plays a role, too. I have to remember to stay loose! As Michael Klinghoffer shows, in his videos for "Mr. Karr, would you teach me how to drive a double bass?", the key is relaxation!
18. Oh, I see… I guess I'll have to find the right amount of loosening, as to not overdo it. I'll make some attempts and see what happens!
19. Hi ya' all… just a technique question. I play almost exclusively pizzicato but recently I've been asked to pull out some simple bowed lines so I got back to my long-neglected german bow… I'm doing some exercises, now, but there's one thing that bugs me. Sometimes, especially when I'm doing a "downstroke" (frog to tip movement) the bow kinda "bounces" on the string. Not so much as to jump away, fortunately, but it's still definitely causing the note to warble and to be uneven. Am I applying too much pressure? Or applying it in the wrong way? Any suggestion will be helpful, thanks a lot! Cheers!
20. Yeah, just for the fact that it is passive it means that is just a switch. Almost no circuitry at all (almost). The signal degradation should be almost non-existent! But it's a good thing you solved the issue with an LS2
21. I have a Samson S-com plus, which is not specific for bass and therefore has a ton of other features that I might probably never use (like a de-esser!!) but it was such a bargain - it was used but in perfect condition - that I got it anyway. And I must say it's not bad at all! And it has two channels, which is what I need. I'm probably gonna get an R.N.C. sooner or later, because not only it's smaller, but it's definitely more straightforward (not to mention, better!)

Same here… on the rare occasions in which I have to tweak my sound a lot, I use it as a "jolly" - or, better yet, as a "swiss army knife" - among other "real" effects. (The funny thing is seeing that the Zoom has many emulations of effects that I see for real right next to it in my pedalboard! Ha! ) For smaller gigs I use it alone (or in conjunction with a tuner and eventually a line selector if I have more than one bass) and then I set it up depending on the situation...

Zoom MS60-B

Oh yeah, it's one of the best bargains EVER! As for Tauzero's point, maybe the LineSel also works fine if you have to switch on and off more than one effect. (Otherwise it would be best just to do as he suggested) For a slap sound, for instance. An EQ for a mid-scooped sound and a just touch of flanger… which you can turn both off, when you need a more conventional fingerstyle sound. But, then again, it would be useful only if you had not to cycle through patches. In that case, just build up the different combinations, save them alphabetically, and browse through them with you toes
The stand out effect for me is the LineSel. It's the LS2 model, and it adds a lot of functionality to this pedal. With this you can have say a comp 1st in your chain, then the LineSel 2nd, then another effect or two in 3rd & 4th slots. The comp stays on all the time but you can use the LineSel to turn on the next two effects. Just like the real thing, as if they were in the effect loop. Sweet.
I'm curious about the LineSel, too, but I have a couple of questions, from a practical point of view. What you've just explained is exactly how I figured it out and it's very useful, indeed, but say you're in a live situation. You've prepared a bunch of patches, each with different effects, and each one labeled with a letter, so you can cycle through them alphabetically, with just your toes. Say that one patch has the LineSel in it… in order to switch the LineSel itself on and off (and therefore engaging or skipping all the other effects after it) you'd have to enter that patch's configuration… which cannot be done using just your foot, right? …or did I miss something? Thanks in advance! A'
