I wonder if anyone on here has used one.

    I have!

I had one like the one in the classifieds... For less than a week.i bought it on here, and almost immediately put it back up for sale. But it wasn't the fault of the case.

While from a protection point of view I think it was great, it added a lot of size and inflexibility. My house is pretty small, with low ceilings. So storing it when the bass was out was a problem, and moving things around to put the bass in or take it out was a bit of a mission. Also, the bass just fits in the car in a gig bag, with the size added by the foam hard case, it was too tight for comfort.

In a different living situation, with more space, maybe more than one bass to store, and a van, I'd definitely think about picking another up though. It was pretty good, and definitely provided a significant upgrade in terms of protection.

  2. Obviously I can't speak for that particular bass, it's history, setup and all that... But I play a 5/35, and it's a good solid bass, sounds good, and seems to be quite insensitive to the weather, temperature, humidity, etc. Over the past few years I've had the bridge reprofiled and a fingerboard shoot, which has improved playability, but I've no complaints at all really.

  3. It far exceeded my expectations, I can only imagine what the bigger brother can do. Last year I was really struggling for car space, what with the double bass and the Mrs's drums, but after a bit of replanning I can get my larger Markbass combo in now, although it lacks the higher end detail that this little marvel has to be fair .

  4. I've seen a few folks with the 57 wrapped and tucked under the bridge, and I think Nick Blacka from GoGo Penguin does this. My DB teacher used to use the SE-X1 for recording his bass into the DAW, obviously not the same scenario as live work, so I'm not sure about feedback resistance, etc, but it always sounded ok.

  5. Moving on this tiny but mighty Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0 10T Combo.

The volume and depth of tone from this thing is astonishing for it's size. I used it on a run of festivals last year as my on stage monitoring with a 5 string double bass, with a drummer and various electric folky type instruments and it didn't even bat an eye. It sounds great with electric bass too, really clear and transparent. It's an easy one hand carry, has a tiny footprint of 35 x 30 centimetres, and the head can be removed for alternative uses. It makes 175w at 8ohms or 300 at 4ohms, and has a handy little kickstand underneath to angle it upwards.

It's been around the block, and has a fair few chips and scratches, but nothing major, as can be seen in the pics. Everything works as it should, knobs are smooth and noiseless (well not smooth, as they're notched, but you know what I mean), and the handle on top is solid and secure.

I'm afraid I don't have anything to post it in, so £350 collected from Bushey, Herts.

Make sure your kids haven’t dropped/inserted a small plastic toy that came in a McDs Happy Meal through the F-Hole. Obvs not speaking from experience 🤔

Or 3 Calpol syringes, a number of Lego figures, and a 18 inch pheasant tail feather. That's what I retrieved from the F hole of my mandolin when my firstborn was a toddler.

  7. Not necessarily, it could be many things. I developed one when I played an A, but nothing else, and it turned out to be the endpin. Tuners are quite common too. I'd play it and do a top to bottom check to try and isolate where it's coming from.

I found this useful, plus there's a video up by Jason Heath that covers some other things.

On previous threads about this people mentioned using stuff like a Tone Dexter II from audio sprockets to replicate that with piezo pickups - but I haven't used one.

I have the Tonedexter 2, and I'm pretty happy with it. I trained it with the Lifeline and a Remic red, a T-Bone and an SM 57. I ran it on a run of festivals last summer (mandolin/octave mandolin, vox, drums and bass) and I felt that it sounded good.

There have been a number of updates rolled out since last spring when I got it too. Apparently they've improved the accuracy of the training algorithm, added a 90 second looper so you can playback after training and dial in EQ, HPF, etc , to your taste, and they've added reverb options too. I've not had chance to experiment with any of that stuff yet though, but I plan to get down to the rehearsal space and spend a few hours trying to get if even better for this summer.

  9. I'm pleased with the Lifeline. It's a touch more defined on my bass than the copperhead, a little less dark. Also, it seems to have a higher feedback threshold, which is a bonus.

  10. Way too good for the recycling centre. In great condition, runs all my usual apps without issue. Nice screen, battery lasts a full day of heavy use. Open to any network and will take a micro SD card to give extra storage.

I'm a fan of the Motorola G series, as they have big batteries and run a really stock version of android, without tons of bloatware. I've moved on to another G phone with more memory, as I'm having to pass along a lot of large videos as I create content for various projects.

Uses a USB-C charger, which isn't included, but I'm sure we've all got a few lying around somewhere.

A fiver for postage and it's yours.

  11. Woke up to see the news on FB. Such a shame. It was always great to run into Nick, just a great Fella to be around. He was a hell of s player, and always very generous with his time and knowledge. My condolences to his family and those close to him.

  12. Maruszczyk Elwood L5 A24.

The chambered, light version of the Elwood. Coming in at about 3.65 kilos by my bathroom scale.

Alder body, with a lovely, subtle flame maple top, that's not too showy, but really comes alive under stage lighting. Maple neck and board with 24 frets plus a zero fret. Balances great on a strap.

34 inch scale length, 19mm string spacing.

Haussel Pickups, jazz in the neck and a mini-humbucker at the bridge with a series/parallel/single switch. To be honest there's not that much difference to my ears between the series and single settings, but the parallel option gives it a nice additional punch. Delano preamp, with pull passive on the volume knob in case of battery disasters, balance, bass and treble. Comes with a Maruszczyk gig bag which is in good order, has useful pockets and rucksack straps, one of the zip tags has been replaced with a key ring though

Sounds great and plays really nicely, it's just not getting much use due to double bass stuff.

I'm afraid I don't have the means to ship.

    £800 collected from Bushey, Herts.
