1. Well after a long but easy drive south, Si let me into the house, offered tea and biscuits and the Stingray V was exactly as he said it was in the advert. A great and simple transaction and a trusted person to deal with. Unless I can cure my GAS, I will have no problem dealing with Si again!

  2. I am not sure I follow the intent of the OP, the "classical" music of today was the "pop" music of the time. It is really just a timing reference. There so many sub categories that can fall within the classical definition, from quartet to orchestra from solo to mass choir etc etc.

On a random basis, a few people to look for would be Ennio Morricone; Dead Can Dance, Philip Glass and even some Muse perhaps (!)

BTW, Barber's Adagio for Strings was, at one point, one of the most popular Ibiza club scene hits. Check out the version by William Orbit

One last point a specific piece that, imho, captures the OP's opening sentence is Handel's Eternal Source of Light Divine. The recording for the opening 2012 Paralympic ceremony is those three words encapsulated.

I'd like to see Fender/Squier there... Not because I'm looking to buy one but I think having the largest and most well known bass manufacturer would give the event some legitimacy. If the big names don't bother it kinda make it look like a bit of an amatureish event...

Big range of Warwicks, Ibanez etc would be good too.

That was part of my response to the survey too. I loved the Pedulla and other esoteric brands being there, but to get support from the mainstream guys, would be very helpful to me. I would love a very high end guitar and will probably have one at some point, meanwhile I would like to try the mainstream to see if they will give me the fix I crave.

  4. The answer is always provided by the following formula:

    N+1 which must be = D-1

where N is the current number of bass guitars and D is divorce or seperation

I do not know enough to comment on a 6 string but I would go with four: one jazz, one precision and repeat each fretless: all 5 string

  5. I have had three tutors todate. The first was a good professional player (£20 per hour) but neither of us could communicate with each other to make it work other than at a perfunctory level. I moved away and so that finished that off. The second tutor (£ 40 per hour) I had was superb, not only did we get on but he was truly inspirational, helping me believe I could do something / coming up with ways to keep me wanting more; sadly costs and timings put paid to that continuing. My current tutor (£ 18 per 45 minutes), fully qualified and a former semi pro has helped me through three grading exams with distinctions each time but he not so inspirational.

The one common factor is me. The ability to get on / communicate depends so much on the personality of each teacher / pupil. Irrespective of qualifications, and assuming all teachers know their stuff (a massive assumption perhaps!), mutual understanding of expectations and how to get there with that pupil is the most important aspect of a tutor for me.

  6. This is the internet and decorum and style go out of the window, however, I have to agree with Jennie on this. I see no need for innuendo in a thread started by a female. Nothing to do with anything other than, irrespective of medium, I would try to refrain from using that sort of comedy with a female I do not know. Perhaps I am just too old and fusty. Great close female friends and amongst the boys, yes, but here, no. This is my view and there is no expectation that this is right or wrong.

  7. Well my first time at the show and despite the low expectations caused by some posts in this thread, I came away regarding it as a fantastic occasion!

I said hello to some BCs in the queue outside, trying to get rid of my spare ticket and spoke with Bluejay. Listened to / watched Divinity Foxx, Yolanda Charles with Federico Malaman, Billy Sheehan and Doug Wimbush. All I can say is Wow! really wow. All were obviously great players, but each was very entertaining and Sheehan was extremely informative too. I played with a couple of guitars (Pedulla - want want, MusicMan Stingray not so much, although they only had one 4HH - a prototype through neck), almost bought a Markbass MultiAmp (phew! but too complicated) which was on at a silly discounted price.

Arrived at 10.00am, left at 16:30 with two music books, a neoprene strap, an RC4 and a Ditto X2 (great chats with the TC team and Mark from Bass Direct).

Thanks to all who kept it friendly, spoke to a lot of people inside but no idea who they were, and well done to the organisers. I will be back next year. My only criticism is that it would be good to get some more mainstream manufacturers there. Not too crowded either.

  8. I am with the 3.5hrs simply not being long enough by some margin camp.

Notwithstanding that, I sold something recently to a longstanding member of BC (with no issue whatsoever), however, I recieved PMs from two new members who had not made a single post to the forum prior to my advert. I did not know them and had no background to location or anything. I did try to do a deal with one, on the basis of cash on delivery / collection and they went silent. I gave them a week before moving on. From what I can see they have dissappeared completely.

I will always be harder on a newbie with zero history and limited background but try to give some leeway. There has to be some mechanism to weed out the potential scams but there are so many reasons for someone not coming back; from the macabre to the downright rude with a millon reasons inbetween. No point in getting het up, just move on.

  9. I asked my LBS, an Orange stockist, when these will be out. 1st April apparently, although they will not carry this specific head as bass is no longer a big sell item for them.

I am really keen to hear one live. The YouTube vids make it a "want" item, but the brain is saying check it out first.

  10. Superb. My father, who too was a drummer, used to take me to see him in the 70‘s along with another drummer he was a fan of, Joe Morello. Another drummer well worth listening too is / was Jake Hanna, an amazing brush player who like Buddy made the drums an instrument rather than just part of the rythm section.
