  1. I tend to buy a lot of gear.

I recently returned a bass, asked many many times with many agents for help in understanding why they didnt offer the option to collect the item and instead sent me to various off licenses to ship it back. I have been back and forth to try and figure out with DHL why it sat at the border with no updates. I asked for help from Thomann and the chat agent was clueless. (not just once mind you)
After further waiting and communicating i am told they are going to refund me regardless, but never received that either. Upon chasing I am now told the money went into a customer account and is sitting there, instead. I specifically emailed and asked for a refund on more than once occassion. In their defense, I was going to use the money on something else at their shop, but the service was so awful I asked for a refund.
Today I am told it will be another 5-7 days to move the money from a customer account to my credit card. It been over a month, what happened to THOMANN, they use to be better than the rest. Andertons seem to be the only ones who ship gear that doesnt arrive in a state that needs a lot of adjustment or repair. Gak was pretty good with refunds too comparitively speaking.

It seems many retailers are not bothering setting up basses or looking them over before shipping also, and blaming any adjustments required on the manufacturers. Wonder why>? Surely ensuruing a customer is happy and doesnt return an item is helpful to their bottom line.

    Rant over. For now.

Have you tried tweaking the treble frequency? There are two dip switches that let you tweak how it behaves that might give you a little extra mileage.

Personally as great as the EMGs look with the brushed metal finish I prefer the sound of Dimarzio model p with the Stellartone.

My biggest discovery was that I just don’t think the P bass is right for me. I much prefer the sound of PJ or Jazz. Really tempted to pop an MM style Turner multicoil in the bridge, or a Dimarzio relentless PJ.

Oh I can adjust the treble on my head or pedals are rectify the issue on the spot but the treble/presence knob on the actual bass isnt as robust as I would prefer. It (schecter exotic p 4) has three controls, vol/bass/treble) .. could be a little more crisp thats all

jazz basses are gr8! I have a aerodyne and love it to death! I think the punch of p and the neck width of P is more my domain (monster hands):0) but awesome you know your preference. I have 11 basses and its getting hard to justify to the wife

  3. I bought one of these recently for £650 used, still had the plastic on the pickguard. Best damn P bass I have played in years! Love the neck, its light, it sounds amazing.

My only negative comment is that its treble or brightness/presence is not as robust as it could be (it has emg pickups). Possibly the pick ups? It has new strings. My new CV 60 Squire slams this bass in relation to presence (in that category).

BUT this is a superb instrument, it has more depth and punch and the wood -- it just feels right as soon as you pick it up. Indonesia is making some great gear! I am now considering the Schecter Model T, or the SIxx Schecter Jazz 4 as much as having a "sixx" branded instrument would bug me. Any experience with these other Schecters folks?

  4. Selling my beautiful Dark Knight Fender P.. Like new, no dings, or visible scratches although the scratch plate looks like my pic may have created some minor blemishes, or so some facebook user said.

This is a new bass, never gigged or taken out of my garden studio collection, only used for two or three recordings and basic fun.

They are currently going for £1800-£2k + so if you are in the market for one of these, you could save a few hundred and buy mine, I am also open to negotiating as I am looking for five string Streamers (2020 on) and am raising money for a possible custom built

Comes with the Fender plastic case. Its in a above average condition.

The climate this bass has been in has been controlled aggressively! I have a lot of basses so its a priority. Thanks for looking

You soon find out who the good guys are.

Spector have a great reputation for a good reason.

It does make me highly skeptical of buying more TBH. It feels like unless I go NS USA 7k+ I am going to experience mass manufacturing issues.. but we will see. Am happy I am not left out in the cold

  8. Hey all, just a polite update, Spector have got in touch and are working with their distributors to help me out. Euro Spectors have a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects and they are "committed to making this right".. I am so happy to hear there is help out there : ) I will update again with the outcome and possibly a new photo of a replacement bass.

I've had a few Spector basses and never seen this issue.

When Stuart owned the company he was always very approachable.  Not sure what the situation is like now that the company has been sold.

The brand has a good reputation and will probably be keen to protect this - contact the Customer Service Team for their take on this.  You may not get a refund but I'd be surprised if they did nothing.

    Thanks

sent them a message and bassdirect who sold it to me.
fingers crossed… my spector experience has been pretty bad. I dont have to many issues with warwick, fender, musicman (although that was bought from bassdirect too so am holding my breath). I dont gig at the moment so playing time is purely to advance my skills and write songs, they are well looked after

Two of the cracks look like they're sprouting from screw holes... I don't suppose you've over tightened those screws causing the finish to crack slightly?

Is the bass still under warranty? Or have you tried to get in touch with the retailer directly to explain the issue? Maybe they'd be able to help?

Thanks mate. I am very particular with my environment, climate control. I have 8 basses and no issues with any of them. I have not adjusted any of these screws in ages, it has been in a case unused. I took it out and whoa.. cracks .. My guess is that the wood has shifted and any punctures in the gloss (ie screws, straplocks, etc) where an opportunity for the gloss to crack, are weak points. I am expecting cracks across the bridge next and the screws in the pickups..

    😪

  13. Spector Euro5 LT LE Black Fade Gloss bought from a popular UK bass retailer in 2020, noticed last year a hairline crack so filled it to stop any spreading. The bass has been in a case in a temperature controlled recording room with 8 other basses. Not sure what went wrong here, my Euro 5 LX is in perfect condition, bought off EBay in 2019.

Pretty bummed to notice today when taking it out to shoot some photos to sell it, that the hairline crack has spread across the body, and there are new cracks from the battery case to the edge and the electronics case to the edge, also from the strap locks extending into the body. Its as if anywhere there was a screw put it, the cracks appeared.

I can only assume the wood is expanding for some reason and that the quality of this £2399 retailing bass was just not up to scratch. (The others are not behaving the same)

I also spent thousands on two other basses from this retailer, one sent back for a twist in the neck and the other showed up with fret sprouts that were blamed on possible shipping temperatures from the midlands to kent 😆

Anyone wants a nice bass that needs some exterior love let me know.

Needless to say I am done with both Spector and this retailer. My damn Fenders never give me any trouble but they bore me to death.
