1. SOLD Photos added! Darkglass B7K for sale, Finnish version. I've had this for just over a year and it's been used around 10 times, but just not using it anymore. It's in excellent condition, with original box (which has a couple of scratches but the pedal itself is in excellent condition). £180 collection from Norwich, or £190 posted. No trades thanks. Any questions, just ask.... Thanks Paul
2.
This is the one the OP is talking about - http://www.richtonemusic.co.uk/products/fender_japan_fsr_classic_60s_p_bass_rw_vw.asp?gclid=CjwKEAiAw4e1BRDfi7vghaWU9jESJACzo9juga0hb0JjXzNyTx1ODdgrFr50CbPsmwMmKiFNdd--9xoC0DXw_wcB and this is the only 50's one they're selling in the UK so far I think - http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-fsr-japan-classic-50s-p-bass-vintage-white/123080?gclid=CjwKEAiAw4e1BRDfi7vghaWU9jESJACzo9ju82WLy5kLdsIeMGLaB94QWTAF7ZI5kh8GXYOYjMQs3BoCy-Tw_wcB The only difference between that 50's one and the one I got is the finish, and that one is basswood, whereas mine was alder. Fender Japan tend to do basswood for solid colour finishes, but also on some higher end versions of the same bass, like the FSR 60s bass. It's quite a good idea really - doing the same bass, just one with a cheaper wood, and a more expensive with a better wood.
Specifically, it's this one (which is alder bodied rather than basswood) which I'm drooling over: http://www.richtonemusic.co.uk/products/fender_japan_fsr_special_60s_p_bass_rw_vw.asp?gclid=CKrW1vzOvcoCFYMSwwod1hMCGQ
3. Interesting stuff. On a purely aesthetic basis, I'm still leaning towards the Fender, but it's all food for thought! :-)
4.
If that is the colour scheme you're looking at, give this a look. It might save you a few quid...
Interesting.... I don't know much about Maruszczyk, though my heart is kinda set on a Fender... rightly or wrongly...!
5.
Not tried one of these specific ones but I did have an MIJ 62 Reissue Precision a while back which had a really nice neck on it. The MIJs are famed for having really decent necks, I`ve had a few different ones over the years and have to agree with that. If its the oly white/tort/rosewood one you`re looking at, well surely that colour shceme in itself is enough of an excuse to buy it
Thanks Lozz. Yes, that exact colour scheme, which is why I'm so tempted to just get it regardless :-D
6. I've got serious GAS for a P bass.... and I stumbled across this model. It's MIJ, they seem to make 2 models (one basswood which is a bit cheaper) and one with an alder body which is the one I'm interested in. Has anyone got any experience of these? I'd try one, but there's none in my local music shops, but would love to get an idea of what they're like. Basically, a good excuse to pull the trigger on one will suffice.....!
7.
More info here: http://basschat.co.u...ost__p__2301827
Cheers flyfisher, I'll give that a read.
8. That's great, thanks all. Just wanted to see if it made a difference either way, such as unleashing an additional 500w from the amp or something
9. I've done a number of google searches and the like, but can't find a definitive answer to this... wondered if you guys could help? I have an Ashdown ABM500 Evo III and 2 Hartke 4.5XL cabinets. I've always run a speaker cable from each speaker output to each cabinet individually (I believe this is "series"??), but happened to have a look in the Hartke manual which shows the speakers running in 'parallel' - running only one speaker cable from the amp to the 1st cabinet, then running the second speaker cable from the first cabinet to the second (hope that makes sense). It's confused me a bit - I'm no expert on ohms/impedence and the like, haven't had any noticeable problems running in "series" (I presume that's what I'm currently doing), but I don't know if there's an advantage to running either with my set up? Appreciate any help/guidance - I don't really get what the difference means in real terms....!
10. There's a local shop which stocks Markbass stuff so I'll go and give them a whirl. Haven't looked at the Hartke LH models, but if it can bring down aircraft then that sounds quite promising too
11. Thanks Lozz196. Just having a look at those now - very interesting. Going to see if I can find a local (ish) dealer to have a proper listen....
12. Hiya So, after a couple of years break from playing, I'm now buying new gear to replace some of the stuff I sold a while back. I still have 2 Hartke 4.5XL cabinets, and just bought a new Musicman Stingray 4, and now looking for a new amp. I was previously using an Ashdown ABM500 EVOIII which I liked, previously had a Trace Elliot V6 which broke lots, Hartke 3500 which I found a bit dull, and looking for something with a bit of character. I'll be playing soul/jazz/funk and possibly some pop/rock on occasion, so want something which is versatile, but most importantly can provide a fair bit of grunt at volume whilst remaining composed. I've been out of the market for a while, so whilst I'm drawn to the Ashdown again to better the devil I know, I'm wondering if there are any new exciting products out there I might have missed? My budget is up to around £600ish, but could be tempted into a bit more if there is something outstanding for a bit more cash.... Any recommendations folks??
13. Cheers discreet!
14. Been lurking on here for a bit and thought I would sign up and say hello! I'm 36, been playing bass for 17 years now, having previously been primarily a guitarist from the age of 14-19. Funnily enough, I wanted a bass from age 11, but kinda fell into the guitar when a mate lent me some Hendrix and I was blown away by it and simply had to start playing...! Switched on to bass when I was 19 in order to join a band (although kept up the 6 string as well, thinking I might be able to switch onto that at some point) and never looked back - was completely converted to bass! I moved from being a pick player, as a hangover from playing guitar, into fingerstyle and the very occasional slap (so to speak). Played bass throughout my twenties and early thirties, trying to get signed and having some success, but when it all came to an end I was a bit heartbroken and sold most of my gear (Ashdown EVO 500, Musicman Stingray 4, Warwick Streamer 5) and basically sulked for a few years about it all. Well, a few years on and I've really got the bug to play again, having moved away from the rock/indie stuff I used to play and moved towards funk/soul/jazz - I've always had a soft spot and played some of this at home for fun, but had little chance to use it live with the bands I was in. So I purchased a new Musicman Stingray 4 in natural/maple neck, which arrived today and it's wonderful - it just felt like coming home! The old fingers still seem to work pretty well and I think, with a few weeks practice, I won't be far off where I left off. I'm in contact with some old band mates and should be having a reunion gig next year (which will be some of the old stuff we used to play, pop rock stuff basically), but I'm now looking for a new challenge as well with some like minded funky players, just to see what happens. I don't have any illusions about getting signed or anything like that anymore, that boat has well and truly sailed, but just to write some music, plays some gigs and have fun playing music I really love. This forum has been really helpful so far, in terms of getting up to speed with whats new in the world of bass, having been out of it for a few years, and I look forward to gleaning lots more info in the future! Cheers guys and gals, Paul (aka Fred)
