1. I was going to say I used to have an OLP (Traben tb4) which was passive and I ended up getting rid of it as it just wasn't meaty enough. You'd be better off with something Active really. Every active bass I've used has suited my style (Rock/metal) and been able to keep up, but the passive OLP just had nothing to it. Was great for slapping though. lol

  2. I haven't got anything that would be suitable, but I think this is a very good idea. Although I think people should always be wary of lending their gear to someone they don't know, so maybe it would be an idea to draw up a little hire contract to say the person will pay for any resulting damage to the gear while in their care?

    Just an idea!

What are you going to replace it with Sarah? Want to buy a Compact ?
should be getting a GK backline head 600 on saturday all being well, then just need to find a cab to go with it :)

  4. I started lessons in january after looking through the RGT lists for a reputable tutor. The first tutor I contacted was cold, uncaring and put me off straight away. I didn't bother taking it any further. The second tutor I contacted (again through RGT) was completely the opposite and I'm still with him today and have no complaints whatsoever. He's happy to do anything I want, am an currently doing slap after mentioning I wanted to learn  He's also helping me to do the RGT grades.

In short, you don't NEED a tutor, but having a decent one will make all the difference :)

  5. It's swings and roundabouts for me..

I wouldn't buy anything I liked the look of but sounded pants...

As for band imagine, it's a woman thing.. I wouldn't go on stage looking like I'd walked in off the street, and also I think there's more pressure on female members of bands to be 'eye candy' as well as a decent player..

Due to upgrading and getting new gear my poor old Laney is now being made redundant, plus I need the extra pennies to go towards more gear!

It's been much loved for the past 5 years with me and only used at home other than for 3 band rehearsals and 2 gigs. It's 165w 1x15 w/tweeter. DI, tuner input and effects loop on the back, plus output for an external speaker (min 8ohms). Also has compressor, limit defeat and horn switches. Active and active/passive inputs.

It's covered in carpet, has a metal grille front with Laney logo, there is a dent in the grill and a a few general scuffs and crayon on the carpet (The joys of children lol) but on the whole it's in very good condition for its age and plays really well. The 1x15 gives it a really nice all round sound and I've used it with a 5 string low B and loved the sound of out it. It's also tilt back so would make a perfect monitor.

Would be a perfect practice amp for home or smaller pub gigs.

    Here's some pics.

Have seen them go for £199 secondhand on ebay but would be willing to accept around £150 ono... or to trade I'm looking for a seperate cab, preferably 4x10 or similar spec but I'm open to suggestions, over 300w but that will fit into a Ford KA! lol. Collection from south Staffordshire, literally 2 mins from JCT 12/13 of the M6 or would be willing to travel to meet halfway depending on the distance.

    Thanks! :)

EDIT: Withdrawn as has been Part ex'd for a Hartke Hydrive from PeteAcademy's shop

  8.
Not possible without getting someone to disconnect the amp from the speaker and adding a connecting jack somewhere on the unit.

(Am I the only person on this forum that actually likes Laney gear?)
Thought that would be the case, but thought I'd get more knowledgable eyes on it, so thanks :)
and no, I love laney gear too

Ah well.. onto for sale it goes! lol

  9.
You have 3 things going for you that mean you need not worry (too much)

    1. You

    2. You have a tutor

    3. You're a member of basschat, a fountain of knowledge. :)
Does that mean I can get a pro from here to go do the exam for me?

  10.
I do believe that's a shot from the Notting Hill Carnival and that sound system or one similar is often located on the side of where I used to live during Carnival weekend.

I can feel the headache just looking at that pic!
It looks legendary.. I want it :)
