1.
What does the switch do? Is that original?
Epiphone called it their "presence switch". It switches between baritone and bassier tones. I found the original description from Epiphone here: http://www.vintageguitarandbass.com/epiphone/catalogues/1961_13.php

'iiipopes' found this wiring diagram too: http://www.flyguitars.com/epiphone/bass/Rivoli_circuit.php

I'll amend the post to add in more information. :)

didn't they have a band talent/judge show on the box a few years ago?? it had Alex James, Lauren lavern and the bassist from New order on the panel. think it was aired on Sunday afternoon's?
I thought it was ok, all kinds of genres..... obviously never took off!

It was called Orange unsignedAct on Channel 4. My brother's band went on it but Alex James had a problem with the bass player using a 5-string. And they were a bit too 'heavy' so to speak.

  3. That's a good claim to fame. I've been reading Questlove's book about how it all started and seems like they've always put the music first above fame. They played Bestival this year, the only reason I even contemplated going.

I too had one of these in the 70's when they were unfashionable and foolishly added a bridge pickup thereby reducing the value by half when I sold it around ten years ago. Mine didn't have that access panel on the rear though - is that an after-market mod?

Yeah, it seems to be done to make it easier to access the wiring and tone switch. Hasn't affected the sound at all though.
