1. I love mine. This is personal preference so best to try one first. I haven’t bought it with a view on long-term value so didn’t look into residuals too much. The versatility of the sound is great and quality of build seems brilliant!
2. I’ve been consolidating my gear recently and looking to move on my old Ashdown combo. I’ve had this from new in about 2005 from PMT in Birmingham. It’s in great condition and has been home use only since it’s last service. I haven’t gigged in a while and have a separate 112 cab and head so don’t have use for the Ashdown anymore. I know they’re not as popular anymore but it still sounds great and packs a good punch. It’s done some fun gigs and has a lot of life left in it yet I’ve taken photos of any marks and have a spare power cable if needed. I live in the Leamington Spa area and work near Junction 3 of the M42. Either is good for collection.
3. I’ve had ACS products for 13-14 years too. Started with ear plugs which were great and could change the filters if you needed. I lost them after about 5 years and have had a set of IEMs from them since. Any issues have been repaired quickly and at no cost.
4. Yeah. I wasn’t 100% sure about the case when I first saw it but definitely grown on me. I’d looked into the Limelight basses and was close to ordering. My Bass Direct trip was just to try a few options but got talked into buying!
5. I took a risk recently and sold off my Stingray 5 and Rivoli and have ended up with this from Bass Direct. It’s a 2021 Nash PB-J 63 in Fiesta Red. Apparently the first owner already had too many basses. Lucky for be though as it plays like a dream and sounds amazing…
6. Thanks for this. Seems by all accounts that the price point is a bit high for what it is?
7. I haven’t been on the Ashdown website for a while and noticed they’re selling basses. Has anyone tried them out or know much more about them? I assume they’re licensing them from another manufacturer… https://ashdownmusic.com/collections/basses Prices are around the £900-£1000 mark. Sorry if someone has already made a post about this.
8. I have a similar issue. I had a 2006 maple necked Stingray 5 in gloss black, bought the HH Stealth model in 2010 because it looked great, sold the maple and miss it still. The painted neck on the Stealth just doesn’t work for me and never had the same feel. The Stealth sounds great with the extra humbucker but don’t love it. I’ve listed it on Basschat and try a few other non-Musicman options
9. Sorry all, this has now sold! Thanks for all the feedback
10. I hadn't really thought about that option. I bought it second hand 6 years ago so figured it wouldn't be covered by any warranty.
11. Thank you. It’s definitely a head turner if the lights are on! Big, big sound from these Stingrays too.
12. I'm having a gear clear out and selling this short-scale and my Stingray 5 HS Stealth. I tried selling this about 7 years ago too when I was decided about what to keep. This is a 1964 Epiphone Rivoli (EB-232). I bought it from Chandlers in Chiswick (RIP) about 10 years ago. It's a beautiful guitar with a really warm sound. I don't know huge amounts about the bass, I'm no expert by any means just know when something sounds good. As soon as I tried it in the shop I knew it was a good tone and good instrument to play. It has obviously been played a lot over the years which adds to its charm in my opinion. It had a really good set up about 5 years ago and has been in its case since as my regular player was the Stingray. Here's the original spec from the Epiphone catalogue: Body dimensions: 16"x19"x 1 3/4" Double cutaway Scale: 30 1/2 Frets: 20 Body joins neck at: 18th Pickup: single (Alnico magnetic, according to catalogue) Switch: 'Presence Switch' (switches between a baritone and bass characteristic) Bridge: metal-bar Wood: maple Fretboard: rosewood Information is a bit scarcer than the EB-2 but it's pretty much the same bass. The Rivoli had a choice of a black pickguard with the Epiphone 'E' on it or a tortoise one without the logo. As you can see from the photos there has been an access panel added in the back. I bought it like this and believe it was to access the wiring at some point in its history. The pots are original, I haven't had the wiring verified, however it still kicks out a great sound through an amp. I have a soft gig bag with it too. I'm based in Leamington Spa but work in and around Birmingham for collection / trying out.
13. I'm having a bit of a gear clear out and selling this and my 1964 Rivoli. I'd like to buy a nice 5-string Jazz as I've not owned one before. I bought this Stingray 5 new in 2009 in the US. It's a really good player and has a powerful sound. It's a HS set up with Rosewood fretboard, everything else is matt black. The serial number is: E73052 (made: 7th August 2009) and is in great condition. There's 2 small nicks, one on the back and one near the jack input. It comes with the original MusicMan hard case too. No modifications. To be honest, I preferred the look of the gloss black and maple Stingray 5 I sold on here 7 or 8 years ago and miss that bass. This one looks mean though I live in Leamington Spa but work in and around Birmingham if you want to try it or collect. Happy to ship it out too.
14. I tried using my Ashdown CTM 15 recently and it powered up but had no sound output. Unfortunately I have no clue about repairing amps and have been using my Ampeg head primarily so thought it might be better in someone else’s hands. I live in Leamington Spa and work in Birmingham if you wanted to collect/meet for collection. I think £40 is a fair price as it needs fixing. It’s a good little amp when it works.
15. I am a VERY happy man right now. This is my birthday present from (the greatest) girlfriend in existence. The guys at TKS did an amazing job of turning it around quickly and it looks great. Will be trying it out once some speaker cables arrive. It's a horizontal S112 in tweed with the brown/gold cloth.
16.
I'll get some photos up this weekend (been ridiculously busy this week). The amp is in South Essex on the outskirts of East London, about an hour and a half by train from Hammersmith. One change onto the Central LIne from Hammersmith station.
Great. I'll look forward to the photos and let you know from there.
17. Any photos available? Also, how far away from Hammersmith are you?
18. There's a lot to choose from. I host all of my client domains through Bluehost. They're an American company but have 24/7 support and is only £3 a month if you are a new customer I think. It uses cPanel. This is the easiest platform to use for a server. I'd advise installing a Wordpress backend for your domain, buying a theme you like (see: http://themeforest.net for ideas) and adding your content. It's a much cheaper way of getting the design/build done professionally. Might be best to get someone to consult with about the creative approach and content. Hope this helps.
19. I know this album came out a few years ago but really enjoying listening to it again. And this video of Bill Wither's "I Can't Write Left Handed" is great. Thoughts? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CqQBpd31SxM (Sorry, not sure how to embed YouTube videos).
20.
Unfortunately, ErnieBall/Musicman has a strict sales policy that requires all US dealers to ONLY sell NEW items in US funds, shipped to US addresses ONLY. We CAN sell USED or DISCONTINUED EB/MM product outside of the USA.
This is what I was sent by one of the guys there, August 2009.
21.
Make that, this WAS looking very promising, it's a Musicman bass I'm looking at!
Ahh, sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Which one are you looking at? They may have changed their policy or make an exception.
22. I bought a Stingray 5 from them about 4 years ago. Musicman don't allow them to ship outside of the USA so had it shipped to my friend in California who I was visiting a few weeks later and took it home on the plane. They got it to him really quickly and saved on State tax. The exchange rate for the dollar is pretty good at the moment too.
23. Better late than never! Also a fan of Stingrays, love my 5 and don't think I'll let that go, it's a stealth black one with rosewood board. What made you switch from Ashdown amps? I haven't really tried much else to be honest.
24. I want this but Lloyds Bank says no.
25. Another opinion of mine: trying to 'plug' your website/Facebook/[other social media nonsense] on stage seems to me a bit silly, and sometimes the same with saying you have merch/CDs at the back. If people love your music, they'll probably want to talk to you after, buy you a pint etc. And people will know if you are 'online' or have merch through you being around after you've played. No social/electronic media will ever be better than a real-life conversation.
