I dont think the finger sound is all that great ,,,but the slap sound is a market leader!!!!!
So its either Mark Kings choice of sound or its the ASHDOWNS !!
I hired one last year and it was CRAP !!!!
Biggest waste of money on the market apart from BERHINGER obviously !
HIRED being the operative word here!

2.
On the clip of footage kindly linked for us by mr nottswarwick
his kingbass does sound quite thin, although i have no prior knowledge
of what kingbasses generally sound like.

Although i have heard that Mr King himself does use really light guaged strings
so i can only put it down to that.

I was lucky enough to see Level 42 live when they were at their peak at the
Birmingham Odeon many years back, when he was using his jd basses & he did have a fuller sound
back then. Although i enjoy his slap playing, i was really into his finger playing even more
& he had a really fat groovy beefy sound when he did that which always was a joy for me to hear.
AGREED! Mr King used to use 30/90s on the jaydee and still got a full sound,i really think this is just a badly mixed live sound, everything seems to be louder than the bass.

3.
I walked out of a Level 42 gig two or three years back. The sound was terrible, and the venue was worse. Mark King never has had what I'd call a "meaty" sound, but the current setup is poor compared to the Jaydee IMO, lifeless and thin, as stated above.
Worst sound ,was a gmex gig in manchester for the"staring at the sun tour" you try playing an alembic in a train shed!. not many bands have willingly played there since, and i for one have never returned.

Still sounds like your walking into a room full of pensioners knitting!.(dont get me wrong i am a fan!).Maybe the engineer thought Mr king was the sax player?,even mr lindup seems to get a better sound , but why does it always look like hes going to be sick?.i honestly dont know what to say, maybe a change of batterys,a change of sound engineer? or a lot of crawling to john diggins?.i will not be purchasing your dvd however!

all the best

just wondering how the law stands on that one.if youd been stupid enough to bid the pound, youd be entering a legally binding deal to cough up the other £3000+ he so casually mentions, while driving the point home!ARE YOU GOOD ENOUGH?,STUPID enough more like.dont get me wrong nice bass, but not within everyones grasp.how many times have you just put that pound on to get the ball rolling(obviously knowing full well, youre going to be outbid, but just to put the item in your bid list).goes to show, it pays to read the small print, and on ebay if it looks too good to be true,it generally is!!!

7.
Got this yesterday, as a die hard L42 fan (forgive me! I am 48) watched thru once, need to do it again when the neighbours are out if u know what I mean.

Gotta say the new stuff does't play live as good as the old stuff, or perhaps I just dont like the new stuff. Any hows its a good watch for you L42 fans. The Kingbass still sounds a tad thin to me, perhaps I'll press the loudness button when theyre out next door, on the surround sound.

Now wheres the keys to me Capri Ghia! :)
8.
Hi

This is a question for Precision lovers.

I have a US P bass that I bought about a year ago on a bit of an expensive whim. My main bass is a Stingray and it suits me pretty well, I know it's sound and I have the action just so, all in all it's got a 'just right' feel for me. Sadly the opposite is the case for my poor neglected P.

I play a lot of different styles but so far I haven't really found where the P shines. I know it wouldn't be such a bass icon without reason - please help me to discover it's strengths.

I don't play much rock and I rarely use a pick - So far the only time it's really sounded good to me was when I was playing it hard with a pick. The action seems high but I couldn't get it much lower, the relief of the neck is pretty much factory standard - I tried varying it but didn't get a much lower action. For fingerstyle it just seems much slower than the Stingray and much less defined in the sound

For people who like them I'd like to ask
- what kind of music do you think it suits?
- do you have favorite EQ, amp setting etc?
- any recommendations for good tracks that showcase the P bass?
- how's the setup? do you string it through the body? any mods worth undertaking?
- anything else that you think makes the P bass such a classic

Normally I'd just part company with a bass that doesn't work for me, but I can't help thinking I'm just missing something with this one so I'm giving it a last chance.

Whats it all about P Bass?(was that not a hit for cilla black?)
seriously though, you instinctively know when youve got a good one.once played a second hand american one, and was very close to purchasing the bass ,and strangely enough, was talked out of it, by the guy who worked in the shop(who is also a friend).he knows, i do tend to sell ,swap ,exchange basses from time to time, and i doubt this one would have appealed to everyone due to its colour purple(wasnt the most saleable of colours at that time).definately a one that got away!.

10.
hey guys ordered a eden nemesis nsp810 cab last tuesday which was in stock and recieved a email stating it was dispatched on wednesday however i still haven't recieved the cab yet, tried emailing on friday and monday but no response, so i looked on their delivery info page stating delivery would be 1-2 days by tnt.
wouldn't be a problem if they returned the emails and kept me informed with a tracking number etc, i paid £30 for the postage so you could say i'm a little dissapointed with their quality of service for a well established business. :)
MB1.

Comes as no surprise these days, they have had a lot of complaints recently, get on the phone and play hell, short of that, cancel your order, threaten to go elsewhere,no excuse for that.
hope you get it sorted!
