1. I have one and to me it sounds like it's working perfectly, the gate is meant to work like that as its meant to reduce 'undesired' noise like hum and the higher you set it the harder you have to play therefore softer notes don't come through.
 2.
+1. Fulltone OCD clone for 1/3rd the price.
Thanks for the reply but i've looked into it but it's not quite what I have in mind
 3.
Tech 21 Leeds. Very convincing JJ tone. I don't think a dedicated overdrive/distortion pedal will get you in the right ballpark.
Thanks for the reply, mainly looking for a drive pedal though and don't want to overly colour my sound, im not looking to be exactly like JJ, just a similar bright grindy sort of drive
 4.
Based on your initial brief, I'd definitely take another look at the Fuzzrocious Cat Tail (new name for the Rat Tail due to trademarks etc) Si
So many options! I'll have a look! The hao rust ride seems hard to get hold of anyway...
 5.
Hao rust ride!
Will look into it! Cheers
 6.
Aguilar Agro would work quite well for this. Also a Mad Professor Blueberry can get pretty gnarly. The Darkglass B7K as an option will give you a whole host of sounds that are tweak able because of a good EQ section. The question for you is, Is the character of the sound fundamentally what you're after?
im really Gonna have to go try a b7k somewhere! Im not sure if it will be too mid scooped or fizzy!
 7.
Hmmm, don't agree with the eq idea at all. A decent tone control or hpf/blend combo will easily suffice. Also, I've had the B7K and B3K, and I wasn't able to get anything remotely Blue Messiahs or Stranglers-esque out of either. They're a bit too modern rock/metal and Meshuggah-ish for that I'd say...
Hmmm very interesting...
 8.
VT Bass, Aguilar Agro, Darkglass B*K
Hmm the b7k does seem like the best option...just the money for it!
 9.
Key to the RAT, for that kind of sound, is keep the gain low (around 9 o'clock) and filter around the 9 o'clock mark too. The "Filter" on the RAT's an LPF, so works the other way round to a traditional tone control. That often confuses people! The Fuzzrocious has Hi/Lo saturation controls too, which I never found much use, so I'd just dime them if I were you. I've got a COG TK-421 (RAT clone) and can easily get a JJ type sound out of it, much more than any of my other overdrives or distortions, which include Tubescreamer and OCD-based pedals.
Thanks a lot, that's a lot of help, im going to look into that then as I want a grand tarkin so I might speak to cog to get a custom version with them both in, cheers
 10.
Sansamp? I use the Para Driver and find that very nice for adding a bit of juicy grit.
I like the sansamp stuff but I don't want to colour my sound too much, im wondering if the w&c phat Phuk B will get me there? Ive also looked into the ray gun fx bass drive...
 11.
Maybe give the ehx glove a try. Can do raspy pretty well
I'll look into it, cheers
 12.
wow, wasn't expecting that, I'll have to try one! tech 21 XXL can get pretty "bitey", or maybe a RAT but you've probably tried that?
Yeah then again you could try it and love it as everyone seems to have their own ideas of bite etc. Haha, just wasn't for me, yeah ive looked at the fuzzrocious rat tail but it seemed too over the top, I may have another look at it. I'm more thinking of that crunchy JJ Burnel sound with lots of treble and growl
 13.
I use a tube screamer type pedal in a blended loop for this. I've not tried the bass tube screamer but it would probably do the job
Thanks for the reply but I found the bass tubescreamer to be too buzzy for me and not bitey and growly enough, any other Suggestions?
 14. Looking for a drive pedal that gives a lot of bite and treble, a sort of JJ Burnel sort of sound or screaming Blue messiahs bass sound, anyone have any suggestions? Cheers
 15. Cheers guys, I'll see if I can try one out somewhere and see and if it isn't my thing I'll consider a VMT deluxe or b7k
 16. Thanks guys, I don't mind some colouration as obviously that's what the pedals made to do in a sense but was thinking about the sound of my amp and bass still coming through but then I wonder to save a little more and get a b7k or VMT deluxe as I love the standard VT
 17. So I'm considering getting a vt di very soon and was just looking for opinions on it, what it's like in a mix etc. And does it overly colour your bass or amp? As I would like a bit of colour but the sound of my bass and amp to still come through. Cheers, Patch
 18. I got my diabolik only a couple of weeks ago and I love it! Really really loud and has so much low end! Congrats
 19. Hmm that does look quite interesting actually may be exacty what I'm looking for, can it get buzzy and saturated then but not sound like mush? Wondering whether to get one of them and maybe add a reverb for spacey sounds? Would you say a di is a must have too? Cheers EDIT: I wonder if the blower box sounds too heavy and gritty for my needs when I'm Thinking more pinched and buzzy
 20. Already have a baseballs but don't know how much I'd use it looking for something more spacey if you get what I mean haha but maybe I might try putting it in, any others? Also a saturated buzzy drive?
 21. I play in a 4 piece band with 2 guitars, we play rock/ Rock n roll/ punk rock music and I have officially reached a dead end on where to go next on my pedalboard haha, I've got a polytune, a darkglass VMT and an EHX deluxe bass big muff, I'm going to get a stereo pulsar for some whacky tremolo effects for some intros in our songs and thinking of maybe an okko basstard? So I'm thinking of another drive/fuzz basically, something more buzzy and saturated any suggestions please let me know and then does anyone have any suggestions of what to fill the last space with as Im thinking a preamp/Di of some sort or even an octave but I'm wondering if there's any essential pedals im missing? Thanks
 22.
Just buy a Woolly Mammoth kit and build it yourself, probably set you back £35 or so plus your time. Si
Interesting, although I'm not good at soldering and making stuff haha but I shall look into it, also thinking about a Malekko b:assmaster
 23. Ah yeah it doesn't really look like it's worth it now with the pointless backward jacks and that, maybe just save for the woolly mammoth
 24. I've noticed it's been almost a year now since they've been out but I haven't actually heard a lot about them and I know they started off around £130 but I've seen most places are selling them around £59, which could indicate they haven't really sold? But I was wondering whether to maybe pick up a bearded lady fuzz at the end of this month as they're a lot cheaper now and post my thoughts on it?
