1969 - All Original - Precision Bass in Sunburst - Great Condition- Original Hard Case - Slim B shape neck!

In excellent all original condition with a gorgeous B shaped neck. The bass is 'virgin', it has no changed parts or issues and comes with it's original hard case and metal covers. Weighs only 8.20lb.

This bass was bought from, and is listed as 'sold' on the great Andy Baxter Bass website, up for £3150 if you'd like to take a look.

I got this bass as i love excellent condition vintage Fenders and the slim B shape necks that became standard after 1968 (but later became fat in the 70's). I fell in love with the bass immediately, it's got a warm vintage tone and is light and comfortable. Plus, as well as being a great player, it's better than money in an ISA these days! Sadly I just can't kick the love of my '66 Precision, and having always played '64 and '66 Precision basses I just can't change my mold. It is now just sitting under the bed so I'm going to sell it to pay for my recently acquired Custom Shop Jazz Bass.

For those of you who are eagle eyed, Fender used orange and green cloth wiring in the 60's for their amplifiers. CBS began to use up this wire on guitars from around 1968 when they changed amp wiring from cloth to plastic, hence the great colour of the wires on this bass. They also used up old stock of pickups, hence the two tone. The solder joints are completely virgin, all components are completely original, as verified.

Sad to see this one go as I love the style, tone and slim neck option.

I am based in Harrow, NW London/Middx.

Posting now possible, please email me if interested.

    Thanks

(I have a little bit of feedback on Basschat now)

Do you known what month the next stamp is?
I'm going to guess at May. The stamp is bearly visable and looks like it could be May or March. However the pickups are June as the date is 6.9.66 so in American fashion that;s 9th June. The pots are dated to the 11th week of '66, though that doesn't help us much either!

EDIT: The date is May, my other '66 is from May '66 and when comparing the faint date stamp lines on both stamps they match up.

    Thanks for the interest

I'm still not 100% sure if I should sell this, so I'm putting out the feelers here to see if you can twist my arm. I have two basses from this period and whilst as a Fender fan that's pretty cool, financially it doesn't make much sense anymore as I can't justify having two.

This bass was bought from, and is listed as 'sold' on, the great Andy Baxter Bass website, up for £4500 if you'd like to take a look. It sold for that amount to my friend, who sold it to me when he decided to buy, yet another, 1957 Precision.

It's in stunning condition, just a few subtle knocks and small scratches that you really have to look for, it's practically lived in it's case yet sounds and feels absolutely gorgeous. The neck is stunning and the tone is crystal clear with the kind of warmth only the old ones give you.

The bass is 'virgin', it has no changed parts or issues and comes with it's original hard case and metal covers - including the muting foam on the bridge cover, which is quite rare. Weighs only 8.42lb, very light for a Fender.

I am based in Harrow, NW London/Middx.

Posting is not recommended but may be possible, please email me if interested.

    Thanks

Cheers, I've been told grooved saddles are definitely the way to go.

I get your point about the tuners, but if I was playing three hour sets I'd get a lighter all round bass for that.

My goal is to build a '69 spec bitsa, just so that I've finally got "my" bass even though it'll be worth next to nothing to the next man :)
Nice idea mate.

I have an all original '69 P Bass, feel free to pm me if you have any remaining questions.

  6. I've never seen a two tone bass before, the blue front and gold back is very cool.

I absolutely love how adventurous Fender are these days, the Japs have shown the Yanks a thing or two about creativity and exploring an amazing history and inventory of basses over the years.I'm glad Fender USA and Mexico is getting on to it.

  7.
The SUB range seems like a good option, I didn't know it...
Good call. Keep in mind that the newer Sub basses are not tof he same quality as the original mid 2000's USA made ones, which although uglier are much better. I've picked these up for friends before under £400, amazing value.

  8. The problem with cheap 5's is that the low B ends up sounding like a wet fart. It may be hard for you to 'come down' to the overall tone of a cheaper instrument as I presume you have a nice Jazz and love the Corvette. £200 budget is mostly a tough call after owning premium basses.

I wasn't impressed with the cheap Squier, Spector and Warwick basses, may be worth uping the budget and getting a second hand Corvette as it'll be similar to the quality of the fretless you have.

Within your budget I seem to remember the OLP Tony Levin Stingray 5 sounding alright for the money, though it's still a cheapy. Stingray 5's have great B strings so maybe also go for an original SUB 5 from years back, the ones with the dodgy paint jobs, for around £300 -400 quid that'd be a lot of bang for your buck.

    Good luck!

  9. Looks like a MIM P-Bass, just with an extra pickup, new paint job (red over black), new pick guard and with the jack socket moved to facilitate the extra knob needed for the new pickup.

edit: the logo looks correct for period, as does the body shape, and bridge. A lot of people mod these mid priced bases and either get bored or upgrade so I personally wouldn't be suspicious of this one.

  10. After market ones can work, though it's a gamble sometimes as you need to be absolutely sure that it does fit and that's not always easy through online shopping.

I have mostly always had them made for me. Bass Doc here on Bass Chat did my last one. His nitro tort plates are fantastic and excellent value (cheaper than Fender too).

Anyone got any ideas of some good sounds to get ?
    Cheers;)

There is a great internet radio station called Calm Radio, based in Canada, The subscription fee is tiny, and for that you get access to tons of channels with no adverts. They have a great Native American channel and lots of similar stuff too, lots of chilled out vibes. Well worth a peek.

I have some R. Carlos Nakai, lovely Native American wind instrument player.

  12. I've had a lot of basses over the years, some hardly ever need adjusting and some need them quite often. I had a Stingray once which was so constantly in need I attached the adjuster tool to the back of the headstock!

Individual necks then appear to have different sensitivities to temperature change, so my advice is just to do it when it's needed. Currently my only bass/guitar which often needs one is my Sterling. I wonder if it's a coincidental Musc Man issue?
