I love that scroll! Its really something!

I like the yellow Korg Pitchclip 2. I mount it on the reverse of the headstock or on my double bass bridge and as its yellow it doesn't stand out like a black one would. I can press and hold the power button so it inverts the display which is essential to most of my mounting locations. And its cheap!

I'm thinking of selling the Yamaha. I've just never got on with it. Got it cheap but no case means I mostly just use it for practice. 

I've got an NS and a Yamaha but no MK. I was considering it for a long time but I can't justify the expense really

Yeah, if it has the portability of an MK and the reliability of Yamaha then it might be worth selling all my other EUBs and buying this one

The main part of the bass tone was actually a mic wedged in the c-bout. And it was beyond  subby!

We've recorded an EP recently with an engineer and no producer. I'm convinced that working with a producer would improve our overall sound, but we decided that putting the money into music vids for each song would provide us with the content we needed for our social streams and allow us to pay for some facebook advertising, and we realised that there's no point in half-heartedly doing anything. £1500 has got us three professional videos but it wouldn't give us the time we might need with a producer.

We're effectively a pub/events band who are writing our own tunes and trying to pivot to originals stuff and we're all around 40. But we post on social at least every other day, have developed relationships with press, radio and festivals and we're looking to put 100% into getting the band going for the next 12 months (around our 9-5s). Part of the success of the band is the songwriting, part is production, part is promotion; you can't neglect any side of it.

She put out a jazz guitar booklet too (as I'm sure most of us know she was firstly a jazz guitarist) which is VERY highly considered. 

She advocates "pulling the bridges back"? That sounds like messing up the intonation to change the break angle and adjust the tension, am I right about this?

You've no idea. It was an improvised Drum & Bass band and it was just an excuse for us to indulge our greatest excesses - ridiculous gear, complex harmony, polyrhythms... and I wonder why we never got that far! 🤷‍♂️

I used to play a lot of electronic music and the band would tongue-in-cheek argue whether something was post-Breakbeat or early Dubstep, Progressive Jungle or perhaps simply IDM. The joke was really that the terms we use to describe music is entirely subjective since the perception of the music is subjective, but also that the nomenclature is undefined. 

I can quite categorically state that Supersonic by Oasis is classic Rock; its 25 years old and features the instrumentation common to the genre 'rock'. You could argue that I'm a moron. Neither of us would be right (well maybe you would be but I'd never admit it!) since the terms are SO subjective.

I know these 4 songs are clearly in other genres, but are genres exclusive? Can something be NWOBHM as well as Classic Rock? If so can something be Punk as well as Classic Rock?

I think there's an argument that all four of the songs above can be considered Classic Rock.

Yeah, Assassin's Creed Odyssey gave me 'Gamer's Thumb' or 'De Quervain's tenosynovitis'. I experimented with controller position but ultimately I just stopped playing the game. Spending too long with my thumb in an extended state (as you do when running in that game) was causing inflammation. 

If you play consoles, that could be a source. Or perhaps some other unnatural movement beyond playing?

My teacher encouraged me to practice without using my thumb on my fretting hand. My action was reasonably low, so I followed his advice and learned that I was applying too much pressure with my grip. Adjusting your fretting technique could help!

Now I take Naproxen before I game.

Either! I can protect your basses with handy dust covers, or offer an authentic 'gigged too close to the kitchens on a 20 year restaurant residency' relic job. The relic is slightly more expensive as I'll have to do a lot of cooking to get it authentic.

I have a long rack with acoustics, basses and electrics in it. I have an open plan living / kitchen in my flat and after a couple of months I realised that the dust and cooking particulates were congealing on my guitars. As such I made some custom dust covers for each of my guitars out of very thin cotton with a tight weave and I'm so glad I did! 

It takes about 5 seconds extra to take the guitar out and 10 to put back, but having dust-free (and oil free) guitars is a relief, and they protect from scratches from controls and bridges etc.

If anyone else requires similar, I could probably quote you for some work. 

There's loads of hardware synth modules (EMU Proteus springs to mind) that would fulfil your brief, but if you're after more modern sounds, there's solutions that allow you to connect the keyboard to an ipad.

Only problem with this solution is that it would be quite tricky to play a synth chord, then swap to another and swap back again in the same way that perhaps a midi keyboard would work. 

The Yamaha Clickstation (although discontinued) can be MIDI clock slaved and mounted on a hi-hat stand. It puts out a great click sound and allows your drummer to integrate with MIDI.

My drummer had 3 of them (2 backups) when I was playing a lot of Live DnB

I've given 3-6 months notice in the past; sometimes with an offer of allowing gig share over the notice period and offering to coach my replacement, but when you're in a busy band that's gigging 3 times a weekend, every weekend, you need to facilitate the transition.

If there's no gigs in the diary, there's no obligation to stay.

I struggle to work with poor communicators. Don't get me wrong, if a band leader tells me "instead of the 5, this does a 3, 6, 2, 5" or something, I'll follow it as it clearly uses standard nomenclature to efficiently describe a change. Or even if someone says nothing except "follow me for the changes" then at least I know what to expect, but people who call themselves band leaders then use language that only they understand? Unfortunately they get one of my university harmony modules thrown at them so they're made to feel just like they tried to make me feel: stupid.

Like all good stories, it has a beginning (look at this innovative, unconventional, beautiful bass), a middle (CRACK!), and an end (not just fixed but improved!).

Forgive me, but Bridgehouse's Shuker with the truss rod failure has to be up there!
