  1. Rotosound/Rotobass 95 or 100 usually although last night I used a set of 105 at rehearsal that I bought by accident and they sounded huge.

I used to really like LaBella Hard Rockin' Steel but they don't seem to do them now so I switched back to Rotosound, plus it's a British company.

I think Warwick Red Label (95 or 100) are excellent value though and I've usually got a pack or two spare.

  2. Jimi and Strats is the first person who comes to my mind.

Although he did have his hand decorated '67 Flying V and later a '70 leftie V, also a white '67 SG Custom and black '56 Les Paul.

Prior to his fame he hd a variety of guitars.

And of course, there's Rory Gallagher and his battered Strat.

Yes I did a search on 70s sounding p-bass pickups and these turned up, will be interested in hearing your views on them.

I'll report back when I've had chance to give it a proper go.  We've got a rehearsal on Tuesday but I doubt it will be here in time for that, and we only use the gear in the studio so I won't have a realistic idea how it performs in a live with my own gear or recording situation.  I'm looking forward to it.

He has quite a full order book so it would be several weeks before you receive it.  I wasn't in any rush though.

The standard non ABS Thomann case is a good fit too, and usually a few quid cheaper than the ABS one too.

That Gator "soft" case looks pretty good too.

Thanks for your input, Skybone.  I ordered the E bass case as in the photo.  I'm glad I did a search on here, I was about to ask the same question.

    Cheers

  5. I vote Warwick for no other reason than I have some and love them.

I can't comment on Mayones but I've got four Warwicks (one each of the Fortress series and a '96 Corvette) and they're all high quality and very enjoyable instruments.  They have the most comfortable necks imho.  I play in an originals rock band and any of my Warwicks fit right in - I'm especially thinking of the Corvette.

As someone mentioned earlier, those barrel jack sockets can fail and JAN II is a bit flimsy.  Apart from that I haven't had a moment's trouble with any of mine in the 10 years since getting my first Warwick (the Corvette).  I've never had any issues with the recessed strap thing.

Oh yes, and the Warwick community seems very helpful and friendly.

Thanks for the pics - that's going to be a beauty!  It must be good to have those woodworking skills.  Perhaps you'll share pics on BC when she's finished 🙂

it’s really important as different bridges have different sized bass plates.

You end up with something like this....

Thank you again! - that really is most helpful 🙂

How did that bass turn out?  I always loved that '51 style but never had one.

Wow!  Thank you so much for all that - very much appreciated indeed!  It's great that you kept such a detailed record of your work.  I had to read one or two parts a couple of times but now it all makes sense.  I'll have a 'virtual' run through on one of my Precisions in the next day or two.  This project won't be happening immediately but I'm certainly going to save a copy of your notes.

    Again, thank you so much!
