Hi that’s very kind of you

Do you feel a picked played PBass mostly rock etc will suit the ST ?

I need a full deep tone with clarity

Also have you had any concerns about amp head moving off the cab ?

Also I see in your profile pic you use an Orange Terror bass head ??

    Do they pair well ?

    Im tempted to get one

I've been playing a pair of Super Compacts with a P bass. Full, deep tone with clarity is exactly what they do.

Yes, they do rattle heads off the top on occasion. I use a non-slip mat for the head to keep it in place. Two BF 12's will sound immense, believe the hype.

  2. PSA: Richard Henry Guitars has just posted on Facebook, a nice looking '72 Jazz now reduced to £3500. Sunburst/rosewood/tort. Inc covers, looks clean.

I think this is quite a good buy for someone.

  3. Barefaced Super Compact, used but not abused. Sounds great, includes Roqsolid padded cover.

Collection preferred from Morecambe, but will consider shipping at cost if it's not gone in a week, (probably around £25).

I currently have two of these, but I've ordered a new 3x10 direct from Barefaced, so this is going to be surplus to requirements.

    Thanks,

    Rob

I think Ampeg have a bit of a reputation problem right now, thanks to their previous generation Class D stuff. That’s why I’m not getting one (yet).

Plus, I don’t think it’s a particularly attractive-looking thing. Big, sticky-out knobs, fiddly, fragile-looking little switches, and so on. I can overlook that if the sound is good and it’s going to be reliable, but, a) nobody seems to be able to tell me if they sound any good, and b) they haven’t really been out long enough to have a good measure of their reliability.

Additionally, it’s a bit of a harder time to be an amp company. With the rise of modellers, IEMs, etc, less people are buying amps these days in general.

Someone did post a very positive review on here a while back.

But also, Ed Friedland posted on Facebook about a gig he was at using supplied backline and the Venture, in his words, “shit the bed” and had to be replaced in a hurry.

I am definitely the target market for one of these, but I’m holding off too as there’s just not enough experience out there to give me confidence.

I have been wondering about this set up. I already have a BB2 and would like something a bit smaller for small gigs & practice. How do the two compare?

Andy, I'll be selling one of my SC's when the 3x10 arrives. Not as small as a Super Midget mind you.

Newly advertised Jazz over a BD.  Certainly seems to have calmed down on his vintage fender pricing recently albeit still way out of my price zone

It looks nice. Changed pickups, but originals supplied.

I'm wondering about the date of 1972, and the guard having the thumbrest in the later position? To me, it's either a changed guard, or it's not a '72. My '73 has the rest in the lower position.

  7. Andy and I got quite deep into the subtleties and complexities of Barefaced 12's, and then comparing to other cabs, with other amps.

I do apologise for getting rather loud when @GreeneKing's GK Legacy 800 came out, through my pair of Super Compacts.

A question suddenly springs to mind - bass bashes traditionally seem to happen on a Sunday.  How was it for everyone this one being on a Saturday?

To me, it doesn't really matter - due to all the travelling involved I'd take a long weekend off my work anyway.  But just curious to those closer, was it good to have a buffer day before going back to work/regular routine?  Was getting up early on the Saturday a chore?  Were some people unable to attend due to gigging on the Sat night, or would gigging on the Saturday wipe you out for the Sunday anyway?

I've got today off, so the mind wanders... over to you (or not, I don't care - did I mention I have the day off? ;))

Either day is ok for me. Sunday might have actually been a bit more awkward as I normally cook Sunday Dinner for my 97 year old father in law. But he’s not sure what day it is generally, so I’d just do it on Saturday or Monday and he’d be happy.

I think @lee650 would have liked to attend, and would have travelled with me, but he couldn’t as he had a gig on Saturday night.

Only just noticed @ossyrocks has a cup of tea in hand, I have a memory that he only ever put a cup down to pick a bass up :) The moment the bass went down, a cup of tea magically appeared in his hand.

As I have already said, without tea, I might die. I’m a Lancashire Lad, and I’ve been brought up never to decline a cup of tea. I think I made two or three pots on the day, in addition to those made by others. The plentiful supply of tea made my day very enjoyable indeed.

Many thanks go to Rob and his lovely family for creating the time and place and victualling us all day. One can never have too much tea.
It was great to see old friends and make new ones. My love for P bass tone was affirmed again and I wish I’d have had a play on Luke’s Bravewood. His pedal board was awesome. It made me realise I’ve drifted away from being in touch with what is happening with things bass

The shootout was interesting. My Accugrove was warm sounding and that suits me. I was surprised just how good my forgotten ‘spare’ GK Legacy 800 sounded alongside my Eich T900 and Tec Puma 900. Those two sounded near identical btw.
A good bass bash leaves us with new inspiration. This was a good bass bash 🙂

    Photo to follow.

I’m now watching videos on the GK Legacy 800. I was mightily impressed by your amp.

It was good to see you again too.

Thanks to everyone who came today.

    Thoroughly enjoyed it

A very enjoyable day indeed. Thanks for organising Rob, and thanks to you and your daughter for catering so wonderfully. My bacon butty on arrival was just what I needed, along with the plentiful supply of tea, Yorkshire tea, in a real teapot an all. Without tea, I think I might die.

It was great to meet everyone too, the time flew by. It was good to see and hear such a variety of instruments, amplifiers and effects, and to get to try them out.

My favourite bass, well I really liked @LukeFRC's Bravewood P bass. Also that GK amp which @GreeneKing had kept hidden all day until the end. The cab shootout was also interesting for me, I liked the BC 12" cab a lot, again @LukeFRC had brought that. But there was so much that was new to me and unfamiliar, I'm going to have to widen my horizons.

    Cheers,

    Rob

When you buy a Barefaced 112 you get to find out how good (or not) your bass and amp really sounds.

Fortunately I was using Aguilar amps and Lull and Sadowsky basses and they just found another gear when I bought my first SC and another gear altogether when I bought the second.

I do agree. The SC's are very revealing. They precipitated a switch from my Bergantino to a Tecamp Puma 900, simply because the Tecamp had a more old school baked in tone with the "Taste" control. I admit, I am odd, there's not a lot of top end in my tone, and I do like a pushy low mid.

  13. Less upper mid is a characteristic of their 10's vs their 12's. Having had a Two10 and three One10's, and now the two Super Compacts.

I was a little naive when I bought the first SC. I thought it would be just a bigger version of their 10, but it was very different sonically, and at first I was a little disappointed to be honest. The SC's are more "hi-fi", they reproduce a lot more of what goes in, without colour. Once I got used to them, I found I could get what I wanted out of them, and they sound huge, but it did involve a change of amp! The Bergantino I was using just didn't sound how I wanted it to through the SC's, it was too pronounced in the upper mid, very hard to describe, but almost clanky. Bear in mid, I'm a vintage P Bass with flats and the tone rolled off kind of chap.

Now this 3x10 is out, I'm rather excited at the prospect of having "that tone" back again, smooth, warm, old school. I've withdrawn the Berg from sale as I want to see how it sounds through the 3x10.

The wait is going to kill me....

And particular favourite pig? I suppose proper home made crusty bread goes without saying, any, preference on the flour? Would an aluminum pan be ok or do I need to forge an iron pan with Lake District ore? I also suppose you want it cooked on oak boughs grown in a western hillside with specific soil pH.

I'm afraid that rounding up a virgin to cook it might be beyond  my powers though....

Are there any virgins in Clapham? It's not called Clapham for nothing I don't think.
Rob, you're already going above and beyond, but since you're asking, Tamworth Red bacon would be lovely

Last chance for letting me know about any dietry issues. Otherwise it'll be a selection of pizzas.

Also any interest in bacon butties or sausage sarnies on arrival?

I am partial to a bacon butty, crispy smoked streaky and real butter being the ideal. Just call me Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall.
