Looking at it, it's probably more like 3-4 feet at the last two indoor venues. Both "PA venues" with house sound guys, foldbacks. The music is standard rock covers. I agree, it doesn't seem normal but that's the reality. I can experiment with the position of the cab but it would have to be done with the band playing. At level check when it's just me hitting single notes for the sound guy, it's all tickety boo.
I think it's worth reiterating that when we do soundcheck I'm setting the rig at a level where I can hear it standing on my spot, that's when they say, "too loud" and I roll off. When no one else is playing, that soundcheck volume is definitely too loud. For gigging levels, I can't hear myself properly, or I can't hear my sound, just mud.
It seems to me that if your playing alone in isolation at sound check is deemed too loud by your bandmates, and you have to back it off a bit, then what's happening is that they start playing they are too loud too. I set my level so it's comfortable and full sounding in isolation, not ever loud. Then if I can't be heard in the overall mix then it's up to the rest of the band to turn down until it can be heard and balanced in the mix.

I've been looking at LFSys lately as there's one thing on the website that really resonated with me and I need to understand more.
It says on the About LFSys page, and I quote, "The lightweight amps were great but the cabs proved a disappointment. First, my (highly regarded) compact cab regularly ran out of steam when I needed to play really loud and second, more importantly, I struggled to hear what I was playing when I was standing close to the cab. Which was more often than not."
This is my biggest issue gigging. I've been using one of my (no tweeter) TWO10s vertically on an 18" high platform (alu workbench) and a Gramma isolation pad so I can hear it but the guys in the band are wondering why I'm so loud on stage when we're setting up and soudchecking. When I come down to an acceptable stage volume, I can't hear my rig very well, I just hear the room (but obviously on a lag). I'm between 3-8 feet in front of it depending on venue and where I stand.
Now, the "really loud" isn't an issue for me, the venues are pubs/clubs/marquees and I never need the second TWO10, in fact the folding aluminum workbench has replaced the second TWO10 as that was being used as a shelf in some cases.
Is a Monaco going to meet my need to hear myself better on stage and if so, how does it do that and why doesn't the TWO10 do it? Also would it still need to go a platform? The guys in that band are "a bit wary" of me having the cab raised as they've never really seen that before.
I don't understand why this is happening for you, as it's not my experience with the 10" BF cabs. Plus the fact that your bandmates "are wondering why you're so loud". What's the rest of your rig, and what kind of sound are you aiming for?
The BF 10" cabs really fill the space, and sound good from anywhere on stage in my experience. I have a BF Three10 and a One10, and last night I used my One10 at Matt & Phreds in Manchester. It could be heard very well and clearly all around the stage, and in fact the sound guy asked me to turn down a tad after the first set. The FOH was doing most of the work, but on stage it was great. The amp was a GK Legacy 800 with the top end rolled off a bit, with a P bass with flats.

That truss rod nut hasn't got in very deep. It wouldn't be a flag for me, it will probably work just fine without any problems.
It looks fine to me too. My '70 precision is a bit further in that that one.

ATB have got a couple of nice ones in at the moment, a 68 and a 66, if it wasn’t so far away from me I’d definitely be checking out the 66
That '68 is speaking to me.......ooof.
Mike Long is really good to deal with, I bought my '73 P from him. He is open to negotiation too, I got a chunk off the advertised price on mine.

Good call, maybe having varifocals but as shades could also be an option in retaining “coolness”.
I have these.
Cool looking rimless varifocals in blue tint. My wife took one look at me wearing them and said, "well I'd sh*g you".
They do look great even though I say so myself. I'm also on the blinder side of optically challenged, but I can see a set list and read the odd note on the floor on a darkened stage if the print is big enough.

All of us in my band are in our 60’s.
It is physically harder than it used to be for me. To keep up general fitness, I try to walk every day, usually about 3 miles, but sometimes up to 4. Then maybe once a week my wife and I will do a longer one, up to 7 or 8 miles with a break halfway.
The night before gigs, I’ll not have much alcohol, and try to get an early night. On the day of the gig, we all try to give ourselves plenty of time to get there and set up without rushing around, it’s important to feel relaxed before we play. Obviously, lightweight gear helps too.
I tend to practice for an hour or two every evening, and will focus on the band numbers in the run up to gigs and rehearsals.

Interestingly, I did recently catch someone just in time, trying to connect the speaker outputs of a powered mixer (1000w) to the line inputs of a house PA system, which were active speakers. I did try to explain the potential results of their actions but they looked at me like I was making a fuss over nothing.

File this under stupid question due to being bored.
I have a Rumble 500 combo that has a 8 ohms output to another cab to give full power. As I seem to have an abundance of 10 inch pa cabs hanging about, could I connect a active top to the output, will it blow the combo or active speaker? I have to say that I haven`t tried this and dont not recommend trying this until someone with sense comments on this
Connecting the speaker output of your Rumble to the input of an active speaker is definitely not recommended. You are likely to blow both the output stage of your combo and the preamp of the active speaker. You could run the "LINE OUT" of your Rumble to the active speaker though using an XLR cable, but your combo will still be running though it's own single speaker and seeing total load of 8 ohms.

The shipping should be moot as I'd want to make sure the buggering wasn't just cosmetic.
It's a five hour drive each way for me, so I think I should just stop thinking about it !

The auction does offer shipping at a not unreasonable cost, but you'd have to hope they know how to pack a cab for shipping. They clearly didn't look after it during their ownership!
It's the old model, with 200w drivers opposed to the more recent 250w drivers. The panel says 4 and 12 ohms, but I can't see how this would be achieved without the switch option of the later versions. Can anyone enlighten me?
It would have to be bought for cheap if you were to factor in a factory recover/refinish and regrill. I would expect a nice condition modern Two10 with cover to be around £500-£550 secondhand. @Merton a custom finish couldn't include a coloured baffle and steel grill though, as the cloth front cabs can't be converted.
I reckon my best offer couldn't be more than £250, and I doubt they would accept that.

I'm keeping half an eye out for another Two10, and this one has popped up on ebay, but it's a horror story.
I don't understand why anyone would do this to such a relatively modern high end cab.

Ive only just became aware of this (and spent 30 mins sobbing afterward) a few members im close too will know that after 22 years of marriage my wife asked for a divorce.
At the risk of oversharing. For many years ive struggled with (for a long time undiagnosed) carpal tunnel in both wrists, which at times has hampered my playing. This is on the mend, but among other things has taken a toll.
Im devastated, but ive done a lot of thinking and looking back, it cant go on
Ive been harming myself mentally, and suppressed anger and frustration and sadness until it warped me into something im not, and caused her to fall out of love with me
ive numbed the pain with Alcohol which has affected my physical health.
She knew what was happening to me, but dealt with it by keeping busy with other things and remained focused on creating a life for herself that didnt include me, in time we were more roommates than a husband and wife. So sad, we had a beautiful relationship, and it withered and died and we both let it happen! heartbreaking, truly heartbreaking
Ill always love her,she was my best friend, soulmate and the love of my life. Right now im still full of anger and resentment and need to try and let it all go and forgive, because ive tortured myself and her for years
If this looks at all familiar i beg you COMMUNICATE, share your feelings and find the person you love. Im not courting sympathy or even attention, but please hug your partner and love them fiercely and with all of your heart.
Ive been a nember of this forum since 2007 and it has been part of my everyday life in all that time. Ive made friends for life and brothers id never had, and many many times been a small light in my darkness. I cant thank you all enough for this, im very moved and grateful to have so many wonderful people in my lif
Im going to move out and get a flat with the shirt on my back and a couple of basses, at 51 my life parallels when i left Newcastle at 19
Im on the cusp of a new start
My focus will be on healing myself phyisically and mentally, i plan to throw myself into the thing thats always defined me , Music!!
Time to forgive and heal
That was a brave post Lee. I feel for you, and what you must be going through at the moment. I'm just out of hospital now, and I'm on the mend but still taking it easy. I know you have a gig tomorrow, so good luck with that, but I'll say that when I was your position a few years ago, I found solace in music and playing live, and found it really helped, especially playing live. You ain't got the blues until you've lived the blues man.
We'll have that meet up in the next few days hopefully, it will be good to see you and talk. Until then, stay strong.

I have the Boss WL-20 and the Nux. I bought the Nux because my wireless router is right next to my practice amp at home, and it interfered with the WL-20. The Nux works fine at home.
For gigs, I always use the WL-20 as it’s just so simple and easy to use. I take the Nux as backup, but I’ve never had to use them. Only once has the WL-20 given me a surprise, the guitarist also has the same system, and I forgot to re pair mine before plugging in, and all of a sudden he had bass coming out of his guitar amp! Re paired and all was good.
I haven’t done a any scientific testing, but I think battery life is better on the WL-20 than the Nux, but then the Nux can be recharged from the case if needs be.

Glad you got into hospital, that can turn nasty if not caught quickly. Now get well!
Cheers. I was struggling all week to be fair, and I’d did the gig on max painkillers. 4am pain was off the scale, I was shaking with it.
I cannot fault the care I’ve had today though, assessed quickly, admitted, CT scan, diagnosed and placed on a ward. The nurses are hot on my pain management, and have told me when they are going to administer stuff through the night. Hopefully it will just be a couple of nights.

My gig last night was great, and the main reason for it, was that we played a lot quieter.
My band is a great bunch of chaps, and we all get along really well. However, the drummer is/can be, one of the loudest drummers I’ve ever played with. On the last gig in a theatre, I spent a long time meticulously refining the sound during sound check, it was superb, then in the first set, adrenaline and enthusiasm got the better of the drummer and he overwhelmed the mix we’d created and we all had to up the volume to hear ourselves. We had words at half time, and the second set was better.
This week at rehearsal, the band leader instigated a discussion about stage volume, and the drummer took it well. So last night, he brought different cymbals (quieter ones) and played in a much more restrained manner. I used a BF One10 and a GK class D head. It really worked, and the audience absolutely loved it. We could all hear every nuance, and our dynamics improved. The drummer did admit that the gig was better for it.So from a great gig last night, I woke at 4am this morning in a lot of abdominal pain, tried 111, which was hopeless, walked into an Urgent Treatment Centre at 8am, was examined and referred to A&E. Suspected acute appendicitis, but after scans and bloods, it turns out to be diverticulitis. They’re keeping me in for a couple days on IV antibiotics and painkillers. Marvellous!

....the great thing then is what comes out your DI into the PA will be more or less the same as the cab.
You make a very good point here. It depends how many of your gigs are DI'd to front of house, or "backline only". Mine are probably about 75% backline only at the moment, but if the band keeps up at current momentum, that will change. I do run wireless, so I get the opportunity to walk out front and check what FOH sounds like, and it's been OK so far with the BF Three10. When I run the vintage GK RB's I use an Orchid DI in front of them and run that to FOH, and when I run the modern GK Legacy 800 I use the built in DI. The bass I use does help, vintage P with flats, so I hope it's never going to veer to far away from what I'm looking for.

Ah ha, I've been where you are!
I've had quite a few BF cabs. I started with the 10s, and loved them. But in my naivety at the time, I though moving up to 12s would be the same but bigger and better. I was wrong, I don't like the 12s for the same reasons you're talking about. They reproduce everything that goes into them from the top to the bottom. They do sound massive though.
The sound I have in my head is rounded, warm, fat and punchy, but has no top end, very old school.
I went back to the BF 10s, a Three10 to be specific, and I could not be happier.
With careful amp choice and eq I could get close to what I wanted with the 12s, the best I managed was with a Tecamp Puma 900 (same as an Eich T900) with the Taste control very much cranked over to the Rich side.

That’s the fella - He brokered a sale for a vintage amp I was selling, and was a pleasure to deal with as
well as being a bit of a character. He plays guitar in a punky kind of band, and likes a Les Paul Junior
so must be okay. 😁
I first met Rich in 1992 when I started working at NCC on Oxford Rd, only a few hundred yards from A1 Music where he worked. That year I bought a nice condition all original 1973 Olympic White Fender Strat in the original case from Rich in the shop, for the princely sum of £225. We've done countless deals since, and he introduced me to Joe Bonamassa in 2015 when we hung out at a studio in London for a day with him before the Royal Albert Hall show. Joe put me and my wife on the guest list for a show in Leeds subsequently.

I can confirm now that the saddles have been changed.
I was looking at a straight swap on a guitar I have here, but I think I'm going to let this one go, not because it's not a nice bass, but mainly because the guitar I have here is worth quite a lot of money and I would want an all original bass if I were going to trade it. If anyone wants to message me, I do know the cash price for quick sale.
