  1. I promised a review...

Now I've used my little Genzler combo on rehearsal. It looked a bit wimpy next to my Super Bassman rig, but it played surprisingly strong and really neat. Even the guitarist appreciated it. Of course less bottom, but it did the job and more. I used the Bongo VI, so the combo had to eat a little low frequencies.

We all know that we play loud in rehearsal rooms - louder than on stage. This little combo will definitely be sufficient - and sound good - as stand-alone at club gigs.

...Either you have huge hands or those are really tiny cabs :)

Well, the mobile phone did its best to give me a "bigfoot thumb". ;)
My hand covers the width of the amp anyway. Both hands cover the top of the amp.

I love the design of those cabs but have yet to hear them. It'll be a while before you get to gig the new one but in the meantime a review would be good.

Well, I haven't tried it live yet, but my livingroom is big and the wife is forgiving... ;)
I mean, I have my (smaller) rig parked here, my 10+ basses on the wall, the upright on a stand; she has a six foot grand piano in the middle of the room, and still we have room for a dining table, six book shelves and a twelve by nine feet sofa in front of the TV. And a fire place. The room is like a smaller jazz club. ;)

I tried the combo with my upright equipped with a Realist Lifeline, and the volume I got out was more than adequate, with a tone to my liking. I was a bit sceptic to the 1 Mohm input, but it worked well. I have some preamps I can use to beef up the signal from the piezo, but seriously, I think I won't be needing them. The eq in the 350 had enough sculpting possibilities to make me happy.

Conclusion: on a smaller stage, like a jazz club the amp is more than enough and sounds as good as you and your instrument sound and play. For electric bass, the amp does the job well; I tried it with my MM Bongo VI, and it sounded good. Still, PA support is needed if you play with "the standard average guitard" and a hard hitting drummer, but for playing with musicians with good judgement I believe this little baby will stand out well...

Think about this for a while...
We tend to play with higher volume in our rehearsal rooms than we are allowed to use on stage. I use my Fender Super Bassman + Bassman 810 Neo at rehearsal, but will use my smaller "wedge rigs" at gigs...

  4. Today I got my tiny, tiny, tiny Genzler combo delivered.
I just had to put it on top of my Genzler BA 12-3 Slant cabs, but it won't sit there. Oh no!
My plan is to use it with my upright bass (and electric for small gigs) instead of using one amp and a two channel preamp for electric and upright. One rig for electric and one for upright, no fuss...

Anyway, it is kind of cute...

    It is really small...

I’m surprised that those are more exepensive than brand new ones 🤔

They are Limited Edition. And - the prices in Sweden are very high due to our lousy exchange rate. £550 at Bass Direct. Anyway, a very good unit. Buy expensive: cry once! ;)

  6. Wow!
I remember seeing a Lag bass at the Frankfurt Fair in '84 or '85; it had a very special form at the lower horn, more like a leg rest and no horn. I've tried to find info in these basses ever since.

Unfortunately I don't need a four string, otherwise it had been very interesting. Do you perhaps know, or have some info, of the other Lag models, like the one I tried to describe?

P.S, I also loved the Hartke 4.5XL cabinet that had a 5" mid driver on board instead of a dedicated tweeter. Yes, the cabinet had a very particular tone to it, but the clarity was definitely different to that of the tweeter less 410XL version. The former I much preferred especially up at volume on stage.

I have an AccuGroove Tri112L too, that sounds fantastic, but these cabs fill the room in another way. Not just in front of...

Well, I stacked some stuff on top of the 12 degree sloping top on the upper cab. No problems at all, no slip sliding away.
Signal chain: bass -- Cali76 TX -- Jule Amps Monique -- Vanderkley Spartan -- two Bass Array cabs, one in each power amp for 2 x 8 ohms use.

  8. I got my two Genzler Bass Array 12-3 SLT today, and I am very pleased. They are as good as I expected.
The line array works well up to "cable distance". Very good horisontal dispersion, and rather "homogene volume" as long as my cable stretches.
I used to own a Bose L1 model " with two subs once; these cabs act a bit the same but sound oh, so much nicer.

I did a serious garage sale around new year to get these. No looking back!

The IronCore just adds that bit more character which is no bad thing. Have you taken the output from the ‘DI’ out with the high gain engaged into the front  of the amp yet? It really comes alive into the amp and pushing a Monique. Oh suits you, Sir!

I haven't tried that. Yet. Will do. Thank you, Sir! ;)

  10. I had one of these babies a few years ago, the one with Lundahl transforler, the TX-L. Stupidly enough I sold it. I have browsed the second hand market for another one, but all of a sudden Origin Effects released a jubilee limited edition model, so I bought one. This time the TX without L. I kinda like this one too, and this time I keep it... ;)

I have yet tried it at home: Bass - Cali76 - Jule Amps Monique - Vanderkley Spartan - AccuGroove Tri112L. It is kinda addictive... ;)

  11. Skew basses like Payson and Dingwall demand skew rigs, hence my up and coming setup with two Genzler Bass Array 12-3 SLT (for slant...).
I believe they sound as good as they look. Now just three-four weeks wait wait wait...

Review will follow. I plan to use them with my Vanderkley Spartan with an Origin Effects Cali76-TX (the big sucker) and the Jule Amps Monique in front.
