    Hello everyone!

    I won't bore you with my history of being a bass player, suffice to say I have noodled since my first Westone Concord 1 when I was 12, and owned most of the major brands over the years. 

    When I hit my 50th birthday I decided to treat myself and put some feelers out to various local luthiers. A few responded and I instantly felt a connection with Bruce Hartley at Bassworks.

    I had a clear concept for "The Mule". Precision body, Tele neck, MM 'bucker, one volume control, roasted flame maple neck, black hardware and the icing on the cake - silver metallic flake! The Mule is going to be a predominantly live bass so I wanted something to catch the lights and stand out on stage.

    Following an hour long FaceTime with Bruce - the spec was laid out in much more detail (more on this later) and Bruce went to work on a quote for the cost.

    When the quote came it was a big surprise! My handmade dream bass was going to cost far less than a new EBMM Stingray, and the quote even included a Hiscox case!!

    So I instructed Bruce to crack on!

    Recommended Luthiers

    Hello

    I'm looking for a guitar builder to build me my ultimate P-bass, hopefully not a million miles away from Nottingham. I know that there are plenty of repairers and shops that do setups etc., but I would like the body at least made from scratch (it'll need routing for a MM 'bucker). I don't mind a quality aftermarket neck being used. Anyone have any suggestions?

    CALLING ALL ROCK GODS (AND GODDESSES)!!

    OK I'm taking a bit of a hit on this one. At one time retailing for nearly £1000, I bought this a few weeks ago from Guitarguitar for £400 brand new. If you look at the spec below you'll see this is a LOT of bass for the money. I'd never owned a bass with an ebony fingerboard and I love it! It has a rather thin U neck which I also love.

    Why am I selling it? It's just too big for me - I'm 5'7" and I look a bit like I'm 12 and it's my first bass. It's also pretty heavy at just under 5 kilos. Anyhoo forget all that - LOOK AT THE SPEC! GOTOH bits, active EMG's, thru neck, ebony 'board!!! It sounds just how you'd imagine too - all that mahogany doing it's thang. Plus it looks like, totally rad.

    Bobby bought my EBMM 'Ray, and drove all the way from Wales to Nottingham to pick it up. Had a great chat and off he drove, leaving me (temporarily) wedged and very happy.

    Lovely bloke - don't hesitate to deal with him.
