1. Here's My Entry its Not exactly where i wanted it, if my blister goes down before the deadline i might redo it . but i Hope you Enjoy .. might sound better in headphones? https://soundcloud.c...n-earth-is-funk
 2.
What..? Go back and listen to your own 'Syrian Sofa', for example, and try to imagine our (or, at least, my...) frustration at hearing such delightful composition. Here we are, struggling along with our multi-instruments and virtual recording studios (if only you could see some of them; very modest affairs...), and you come along and blast us all out of the water with compositions fit for a king..! We're treading water, while you sail past like a musical Phelps..! No false modesty, Bilbo; as far as composition goes, you're up there with the heavyweights..! In any case, how else would you suggest that the notion of 'composition' be expressed..? I'm not sure that a pdf of sheet music would be immensely popular..! No, young sir, I feel for you, but the frustration is not yours alone. Keep 'em coming, old son; they're GREAAAT..!
I agree. and i prefer just to use the bass. although this months track does have a sax sample ( obviously ) and a clav vsti. I enjoy the challenge of composing/recording on the bass. Might Not sound fantastic, or full range, but it has taught me a lot .
 3.
I have always found funk to be present in all genres of music so competition seems wide open to me ! looking forward to it
wasn't me !!! private joke .
 4.
Anything by Pino with Paul Young.
6.
Hmmnnn ...... thanks for the tips, but I'm still not getting what I'm looking for with my technique. I need to find someone who can do it and sit with them for a while.
where are u based... no pun intended
 7. try changing your strings to 40-100 if your not already. ( makes it easier to pull the string, do hammers ons and pull offs) or check the action of the strings , sometimes the height of the strings can make a difference
 8.
No problem Al! The image embed thingy is in the toolbar when posting a message (you might need to select the advanced option to see it). I'm using a phone to write this so I can't check at the moment... Or you can host your image on a site like Photobucket and use the little picture icon (again in the toolbar) to paste in a Direct Link to your image - which actually saves bandwidth on Basschat, mitigates against climate change and ensures no unicorns get harmed in the process, etc... Message me if you ever want instructions on how to do this. As for the image, it's fine so it stays. No problem with it at all. Just a suggestion for whoever wins to err on the side of keeping things 'vague' and open to interpretation. But it's your privilege as winner to choose what you like. ...so long as it's not Burt Reynolds
Hey reynolds was an excellent month
 9.
I just had a bloody brilliant idea for this
There You go.. Get in There
 10. Hi Paul, I couldn't find where to attach the image on the email you sent me. on a side note, funk doesn't have to be a style or a way of playing.. i could be a sound Fx, Tone, Lyrical Content. etc.. It could be a thrash song . Pantera Had Some incredibly funky riffs/grooves But if you want it changed, i could probably find another picture...
 11.
...and tuck in the 'elephant'..?
Exactly
 12. if i get the chance to pic a Picture again ( probably not after this one LOL) I will clear it with y'all first make sure everyones happy, and depending on location come over and read a bed time story
 13.
Its not a matter of people not liking, the only responses ive seen are people who don't play funk. I don't dislike funk, but I'm not a funk bassist, I don't have any desire to be... funk is not the only way to be a bassist
Your TOTALLY RIGHT , But neither is playing Any one particular style Bruce Lee would have been Proud of me for that One
 14. Boostsy Collins is/was james brown's bassist, funkadelics bassist, and parlaments bassist , he also had a solo career. And Funk is a Huge Topic .. there u Go , I didn't Know who Angela Davis Was. don't know if its supposed to be her in the picture? the internets Full stuff other than Porn ... Who'd of thought it
 15. i am surprised by the amount of bassists on here that don't like funk?? ( flamenco, country, detroit, a strange elephant creature, ) lol where would we be without players like Larry Graham, Bootsy Collins, Flea etc ?? who knows , but we'd probably all be using plectrums and following what the guitarist does? One picture to Please them All???? impossible unless it was a picture of Kelly Brook !!! LOL
 16. thats going to be a funky looking Bass, does it have an extended range fretboard? when are 13 guitar Co going to sponsor the next comp ?????
 17.
Lol, I don't think I have a funky bone in my body, so anything I do produce will be anti funk. I will have a go and see how we get on
Thats the spirit .. check out this out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxKBnR_8LIM
 18.
I don't do funk, so that will be me out I think
Blasphemy
 19.
I don't do funk, so that will be me out I think
don't be closed minded , doesn't have to be that literal. you could write an anti funk song ... or Do funk and realise that it was made for bass.. personally theres music i don't like ( or rather don't understand) but once you start to learn it, i bet you'll like it More . or at least appreciate it As george Clinton said " free your mind , and the Rest will follow"
 20. WHOOP WHOOP Cheers Guys Ive got a picture.......
 21.
Done..! Well, actually, I voted, and then changed my mind..! Not recommended; it's better to reflect for longer, or listen again, but there were mitigating circumstances. Once more the sheer quality of the entries makes deciding almost painful. Luckily the music is worth it. Who got my vote..? It finally went to...
Al, of course, initially, but then along came the late entry from the boy, which made me listen again (to all...). Much as I was impressed by Al's artistry, I really felt that the boy had the edge as far as respecting the photo was concerned. Sorry, Al, but the boy sings..!
Great entries from all, as usual.
You don't want to hear me sing.... But many thanks For All the votes and comments so far, I really appreciate it. Next month ( depending on content ) i'll get some singing in there maybe
 22.
Bit hard to visualise any examples?
an easy exercise to begin with would be play 8th notes alternating between slap and pop, starting on your lowest string. this will get you slapping in a more closed position and in a smaller area , then when your fluid enough try adding in the up thumb,
 23. A great way to start expanding on your slap technique, is to learn how to slap then pop on one string. this gets your right hand in a good position to start coming up with your thumb. Also this technique is great if you just want to emulate double thumbing..
