1. Thanks for all these helpful comments.

Since I'm useless with anything remotely technical, I think I'll heed the warnings here and stay away from cobbling things together in some sort of heath-robinson lash-up. If it can go BANG, it will do if I'm around.

The Marshall is very enticing at that price. Will somebody please buy my SWR, (make me an offer around £180) so I can go and buy the Marshall?

    Steve

  2. Hi,

I already have an SWR LA15 100w combo. Here's the technical spec.

    http://www.bandland.co.uk/catalog/product_...roducts_id=1969

It's a great practice amp, but it's not loud enough for pub gigs, so I'll have to upgrade. I don't really want to sell the SWR since it's vrtually new, and it's a good, portable practice amp.

So - is there a way I could link the SWR to give me, say, 300W?

If I bought this Marshall combo:

    http://www.imusician.co.uk/acatalog/info_0...m_term=00061838

and use it for gigs, is there any way I could use the SWR as an extension speaker for the Marshall if ever I needed more than the Marshall's 300W?

Is this possible? Sensible? I'm trying to save costs here, and in some way use the SWR that I have already.

All advice gratefully received. Please don't get too technical - I'm not in any way an engineer!

    Thanks,

    Steve

  3. My learning curve continues...

I bought this combo new 3 months ago to replace my 20w practice amp. The SWR is a belter - 100w of rich, classic SWR tone. I've only used it for bedroom practice and for 3 rehearsals, so there's not a mark on it anywhere. I still have the original delivery box for it. Basically, it's "As new"

It's a smashing practice/rehearsal amp because it's portable (great top-edge handles) and gives such a rich tone. However, to be honest, it's not loud enough for pub gigs. So, I need to upgrade.

    Here's the spec:

    http://www.bandland.co.uk/catalog/product_...roducts_id=1969

I do have pictures which I can email. Once I've worked out how to post them here, I will. It's exactly like the one in the Badland ad. above.

I'm looking to sell it for £155 or trade it for a good, light powerful combo (Mark Bass mini CMD?? cash + cash adjustment), or trade it for a small, lightweight, pwerful head/amp worth up to £350, plus cash adjustment.

I'm in Stockport. I'm happy to drive to meet somebody within 30 miles to hand the SWR over. It could be packed and couriered too.

    Thanks,

    Steve

  4. Thanks to all the replies and suggestions so far. Still unsure whether to go the combo or head/cab route. In any case, my 4 month old, never-gigged, 100W SWR LA 15 combo is going to have to be moved on. £150, if you're interested.

  5. Hi,

I've decided that I need a bit more than 100W for my upcoming first-ever pub gig. I've spotted this:

    http://www.imusician.co.uk/acatalog/info_0...m_term=00061838

Seems a really good deal. Anybody seen or have one? Any good?

Thanks for the reassurance! According to Peavey, it was made in Mississippi on 24th April 1987. I thought - "It's only £150 - it's worth a gamble". When I get it, I'll let you know how it compares to my Tokai Hardpuncher.

  8. Hi,

Can anybody give some useful feedback on the Washburn T24, please? Can't seem to find anything on Harmony Central, or anywhere else. See:

  9. Hi,

    Here's a good-looking 1987 USA Peavey Fury for £185

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Peavey-Fury-USA-bass...id=p3286.c0.m14

Any good as a back-up bass? Any thoughts? A bit dear?
£470 is never what a stingray is worth, in the last week a couple of standard ray's have sold for £650-£800. you get the odd dead auction on ebay, but you will never, EVER see anyone willingly sell their stingray for that cheap

£350 is the right price for a bass like this.
Hmmm. Thank you for your opinion. I value it, but I'm afraid I don't like your phraseology.

BassManKev has now kindly edited his original posting. Thank you. Let's all be respectful, please - life's too short...

  11.
I'm quite curious to know if anybody else is the same, as of the last 3 or more months I've been constantly happy with everything in regards to bass. I'm hitting that tone I've been chasing for a long time every single time I pick my basses up, besides the odd very slight tweaking of the treble and pan on my basses, both the amp and basses are still set up exactly the same as they were when I first got them. And in my playing I'm actually managing to pull off things I always wanted to over the last few years, and the theory is gradually making sense and I'm taking much more notice but at the same time not letting it dominate my playing.

It's really that rare feeling you get when you pick up your bass and everything is perfect, and then the next day it's god awful, it's that basically almost every day now and has been for the last 2 months specifically, just without the horrible next day.

And my GAS has seemingly dissapeared.
This feeling of euphoria ia well known in Psychology. Sports Psychologists refer to it as "flow" when a sports player experiences a sense of getting everything effortlessly right. You are a lucky person.

  12.
PM'd regarding the history but 275- That's £5 less than I paid for it 3 months ago before i spent over 130 on it, regardless of stingray prices if its the bass you want 350 is the asking price.
    Thanks

  13.
£350 for a price bump,

Paid £280, Then spent £60 on fret dress, £45 on decal, £25 on bridge, so I think its a fair price, If you dont, just drop me an offer, I can only say no.
    Thanks

    Dave
Hi Dave,

Thank you for sending me the neck measurements. I'm definitely interested in the bass. Do you have a clear picture of the decal on the headstock, please - it's a bit indistinct in your photos, and I can'y make out what it actually says. Also, is there some sort of case or gigbag with it?

The really tricky bit is a value. Here's my thinking:

Musicman prices are low right now. Good secondhand ones can be had for £470, according to Basschat

In fact secondhand prices of just about everything seem to be low at the moment

2 year old OLP MM2 sold for £100 on ebay yesterday. Of course, yours would be worth more than this.

I was considering a 4 month old Fender Mark Hoppus on ebaY. It failed to sell at £310.

So, all ends up, I reckon yours is somewhere between £100 for the OLP MM2 and £470 for a good Musicman Stingray. Tricky, really...

I'd like to speak to Jim Cairns just to get the history of your bass - I'll try to contact him tomorrow. In the meantime, I'd like to offer you £275 with a gigbag. I'll sort out a courier if you could pack it securely for me.

I hope you can see my reasoning here! Please let me know what you think. That neck looks lovely...

  14.
Are the neck dimensions/thickness the same as a 'real' stingray?
Yes, Id like to know this too, please. 1 5/8 inch at the nut? Are there any position markers?

Because I can only just about cope with 4 strings!
