using the search facility a member called @Sean posted in 2017 on a thread called "best Yamaha bass on the market" that he had one. He also is listed as living in Gloucester... coincidence? Who knows! :D

    (well Sean obviously)

It's here right behind me as I type this.

  2. I'd also recommend watching Tom Petersson of Cheap Trick, he plays one 90% of the time and is the definitive 12 string bass player (he was the man that invented it).

Also Jeff Ament of Pearl Jam uses one on many of the early songs.

Would anyone care to post some examples of Dug playing a 12-string bass? Interested to see how it gets used in a band context.

  3. That's nice. I have the black one and put some Nordstrand Big Blades in it. Great versatile bass and very easy to adapt to.

The dUg 12 looks like it uses a similar but evolved version of the bridge as the Dean Rhapsody 12 and uses the same tuners. I'd assume, as it's made in South Korea, that it's made in the same factory and uses the same truss rod arrangement. The neck profile is very different though, (for me, probably a lot better) 52mm vs 54mm at the nut, 16" radius vs 14" radius. The depth of the neck at the 1st and 12th frets is about the same from measuring my Rhapsody 12. I reckon it's the natural evolution of that and a bit easier to play. I wouldn't buy one without playing it first though although it is right up my street.

Manual is now on Tech21's website. Curious that there's no John Entwistle setting considering what the pedal does. Unfortunately there's a McCartney setting..... euurrrgh. On the plus side there is a Cheap Trick, Muse and Yes settings.

This is going to be brilliant.

I can’t wait to try this with my 8- and 12-string beasts.

“Cheap Trick setting”??? Mine might just get set to this permanently if it’s good.

  5. @tonyxtiger

email received today and responded to.

I’m very excited about this one. The only doubts I have @Tech21NYC is that when I had the (disappointing) Bass FlyRig the knobs kept coming off the pots. I hope these are better.

BFG was also disappointing because of that OctaFuzz and a mediocre chorus. Everything else was very good.

The Valeton Dapper Bass is disappointing too because of the crap tuner and luke warm amp section, pale next the Sansamp. VDB has a good Boss CE clone and a nice comp with a useable Octaver. The Bassballs clone it has is also too focused.

I hope the T21 BFR Mk2 ticks all the boxes.

    sorry for the deviation.

    Looking forward to the dUg...

The 'inspiration' for the Reeves and Mywatt amplifiers - Hiwatt - claimed 400w from 6 valves as did Trace Elliot with the V6. There may be some number juggling but can't imagine there's much in it under real world conditions..

My 4xKT88 MJW is 253w clean and 544w fully clipped. If you multiply that by 1.5 for 6xKT88 (not strictly accurate or scientific but a guide nonetheless) you get 375+ clean and 800+ fully clipped. It would be interesting to know what the big 8xKT88 amps are on the scope. If anyone wants to come and measure my Laney, please let me know. :crigon_04:

  7. Here's the Schecter 8 in a band setting at a jam this week. Drums, bass, loud guitar, vocal. Roughly recorded on a Zoom H2n and then a few tweaks. It's as rough as you like but gives an idea. Not as high in the mix as I'd like but...

Ah yes, dunno how I missed that!

In terms of 8 string and pups that's pretty much what I would go for too(!) - like you, I think there's something special about a neck through. (I'd probably go for the Honey Satin finish, but that's obviously pretty cosmetic / marginal in the scheme of things!)

Interestingly one of the reviews referred to the 'considerable' string tension on an 8 string bass neck (and therefore even more so on a 12 I presume) and that a neck through would provide greater stability than a bolt on neck in relation to this. Something I'd always suspected as being an additional benefit of NTs, in additon to their greater sustain and let's face it, fantastic appearance; but it seems like this additional strength benefit may well also be the case?

Did you go for the Studio or the Deluxe version of the Schecter Stiletto and is there much of a difference?

Those Nords look very snug - identical in size to the EMGs you've replaced? Which Nord Pups did you go for?

It's the Studio version - I picked it up at an amazing price and it was in stock in the UK. Always fancied one.

The Nords are EMG sized and the Clean and Clear versions of the Big Blades. I would rate them as highly as the G&L MFDs and the Yamaha BB2024x pickups. Very different but as good and with buckets of their own personality.
