I've never seen a bass so ugly that I didn't eventually end up gassing for one.

Even those Foderas that look like a whale swallowing a ladder, I want to play one just to see why they built them like that, I'm imagining some sort of supreme ergonomic experience that makes perfect sense of the questionable aethetic.

Single cut basses tread an absurdly narrow line between fugly and luvly.  Very few makers get it right to my mind:  Shuker is one of them.  And... um, that's it.  Apart from a niche European maker who's name I have totally forgot.  I also don't like those with long clutching horns.  I might mention Sei in that regard but I will likely go to hell.

Felt the need to commebt on this as they did a some capacitor changes in my LittleMark 3 a few years ago. Was maybe 30 quid...

Power stage blew. Got in touch, sent it them, got a quote from a nice chao I er the phone the day they signed for it. Paid it straight away and got it back the start of the next week.

They also don't have a monopoly, maybe you haven't tried Google???

Sent a Genz Benz head to fender UK for repair as they dealt with supply/warranty repairs. Needed the same job doing, but took them 6 months, charged me over half the cost of the amp and they just swapped the whole power module PCB out.

This is of course my own experience, and only two examples of lots of work I've had done from lots of providers and lots of different amps. Maybe I should stop breaking them...

Have YOU tried Google? Most Google traffic I see is folk vainly asking where to get their MB gear serviced.

  3. Just thought I'd shoot a mention for the 800w Markbass 4x10 cab. For me, lovely tone. And although bulky, so light!  Everyone raves about the ultra-portable Barefaced cabs but this MB has twice the speakerage yet is entirely manageable, even for a old buffer with atrophied muscles and heart disease. I bought it with casters fitted but I've just taken them off, because the simple woodscrews worked loose and also the wheels added to the weight without being especially useful or necessary. In fact, any issue with the cab is in its size rather than weight.  It's taken me 11 years to find The One and it ain't going anywhere in a hurry (well, until tomorrow anyway).

[Edit: Pic shows the 410 mounted experimentally on an amp stand. Post post I tried it out. While it  looks cool I was astonished how much this bled off the cab's oomph - totally cut its balls off.  Why I have no idea.  Experiment hastily reversed and cab now back on the floor]

  4. Having had several six and five string basses, my humble thought is to agree with you that more than with 4 strings you can't buy on spec. I've had basses that looked perfect on paper and image but left me cold in my lap. Others were the reverse: no-hopers that proved great to play. GLWYS.

  5. I bought this and then belatedly discovered my personal choice of tone and huge power could be found in a Markbass rig, so this Ashdown is back up for sale for what I paid for it.

Works perfectly and looks great apart from a scratch on the top of the casing.

800w. Light, well built, loads of functions, inc on-board headphone preamp to allow for silent practice, a passive and active input jack socket for use with high and low output instruments, Shape button, 5-band EQ and on-board compressor. The drive control delivers a valve emulated over-drive, whilst the sub harmonic controls add fatness to your tone.

Quality leather laptop bag comes with it.

Haven't got close up pictures of mine currently, except the one with the cab. I will post close ups over the next couple of days. Meanwhile these stock pix will service your need for visual stimulation.

£360 posted in original box and packing and insured. £350 collected from near Diss, Norfolk/Suffolk border.

  6. Social club.  Punters only woke up half way through, then here was some discreet jigging going on. Our PR left my pic off the band promo poster AGAIN. Best bit was truly cracking my tone for the first time in 11 yars.  Very very satisfying.  And the key ingredient?  Markbass 104 cab.  Along with LM3 head, Bareknuckle pup on a fretless P bass clone, flats, and my signature EQ settings, which aren't intuitive.  FYI: Bass 11.30; low mid 10.30; high mid 9.30; treble 8.30.  VPF on 9.00.

  7. I have recently been through similar questions.  I am open to demolishment by grown ups. But IMHE ( experience), more speakerage is hugely more important than more watts. The 500w head with one 8 ohm cab will be around 250w.  The 350w with two cabs will be 350w. Plus you get double the speakerage, which means far more oomphs. I thank you.  That will be 10 baht.

  8. Cort A6 six string bass, with hard case. Neck through with Bartolini Mk1 pickups and EQ.  This is the older model A6 with a two part bridge.  16mm string spacing. 10.2 lb weight.

The bass works perfectly, and the pups all do what they should. Twin truss rods turn smoothly. The only faults I've found are a couple of nicks in the gloss top coat which you can feel but not see, a visible small bruise on the rear of the body, and a pressure bruise on the fingerboard at the 13th fret on the B string (both pictured), which doesn't affect the playing at all.  The case looks and works fine but is clearly well used.  Recently setup with new La Bella RX roundwound strings, cleaned and oiled.

£350 collected from Norfolk/Suffolk border. Consider trade for a Cort 5 string, Sire 5 string jazz fretted or fretless, or Ibanez 5 string Portamento, with cash adjustment if necessary.  Nothing else, thanks.

Not in a hurry to sell as I quite like it, so bumps may lapse. But if you fancy it, collection only, PM me.

  9. Barefaced Two10 4 ohm cloth screen version. Not the switchable S edition.  Some Tolex peel round the edge of the back panel. Otherwise good used condition. £450 posted UK only (£425 collected from Norfolk/ Suffolk border). The RM800 head in the picture is not included but might be for sale seperately if you're interested.
