  1. Prince is great for funk, especially the live stuff. There's a lot of slap but also some great finger style stuff. Also Jamiroquai, especially when Stuart Zender played bass for them (first three albums). James Brown and Stevie Wonder are very good too, and any old motown stuff (although not technically funk, I think it's where it all started).

  2. Not that I'm a professional musician or anything, but I have done bits and pieces of session work and pit orchestra stuff, and I would say that it would be advisable to at least own a five string and be proficient on it. It doesn't have to be your main bass, but I would say it's better to have the option should a job come up which needs a five string. A lot of pit orchestra stuff is actually notated for five string, and just wouldn't sound right on a four.

    Just my 2 cents.

  3. Cheers guys, good responses! I do like the sound samples that thunderfunk have got on their website, but that amp's expensive and I haven't seen any good deals on a second hand one. I'm only considering the eden and EA because I've seen them second hand for under 1K.

    That's interesting about the eden. I'm kind of dissapointed since that was my front runner. The stuff you say about the sound is exactly the problem I've got with my current setup. Anyone else have any experience with it?

    Thanks,

    Ryan.

  4. Hey. I've recently invested in a Dr Bass 2460, and I'm trying to decide on what head to pair it with. I reckon my options are:

    * Eden WT550
    * Genz Benz shuttle 6.0
    * something by Mark Bass
    * EA iamp 500/800

    Basically i'm looking for something reasonably small, but with plenty of guts. I play a variety of music, from hip hop to funk to rock, so it needs to be versatile. I like the sound of both my main basses (Warwick thumb and G&L L2500) straight into my computer with headphones, so maybe the EA would be good since it's very transparent. I'm also favouring the eden and EA since they can do 2ohms, since the cab is 4ohms and I'll be able to add another later if I want to.

    Advice/experience would be greatly appreciated!!

    Thanks,

    Ryan.
