    Hiya,

I'm no officianado but I was just reading another discussion on here where one chap suggested depressing the E string down pickguard side of the bridge, quite firmly to create a change in angle.  This sets the string correctly into the saddle and "should" be done every time we change strings or change tuning.

By the way, I have a similar issue with the first string.  I always feel like it's sharper sounding and not like the other 3.  I play a bit of slap too, I always have to try and stifle pops to make them

  2. I've got a R 400 and l use it 95% of the time..it's brilliant and sounds awesome. I also had a subway D800 and it was a complete letdown when l used it on gigs and rehearsals. I soon got rid of it but instead bought a Orange Terror 500 for reheasals and back up. I love this little amp even though its a D class it sounds great and blows the Subway out of the water.

  3. Fantastic looking bass!

Didn't Jimmy Lea from Slade play one until it got pinched?

That guy could really play..if you don't believe me have a listen to his bass solo on Dirty Joker from the Play it Loud album.

Apparently according to my daughter who plays grade 8 violin, it's based on a movement by Bach. Makes sense as Jimmy started off as a violinist.....l'll  get my coat..

  4. Lovely  bass with great, detailed pictures. I've never seen a Precision with a long G string screw though. I thought this was only a quirk of Jazz models from late 60's to early 70's due to the placement of the bridge and pick up. My 71 Jazz has the long G string screw which dates it correctly.

I'm sure one of my learned bass chatters will inform me otherwise. Any thoughts folk's?  Glwts mate.

I love gigging and playing live. It's one of the reasons I took up music in the first place.

Exactly my sentiments mate...l couldnt live without gigging. The only thing that really bugs me are the pig ignorant people who just stand there when you're trying to get your gear in and out, especially after the gig when they're peed up and don't want to move, even after numerous polite requests! There's a pub on the outskirts of Sheffield called the Devonshire  Arms in Dore, a really posh and up market area, Chris Waddle the ex England footballer is a regular in there. But the people are so up their own derrière and totally affected that they expect you to bow down to them and you are there just for their sole entertainment...they are all so ignorant...apart from Chris, he's a really nice guy! Rant over l'll get my coat....

A parametric eq pedal, maybe? Artec is very cheap and functional.

I am wondering - although you have tried this and that - if something else is affecting this issue. Is the room you play at very boomy, or is your amp in a place, where it produces the unwanted sound, like in a corner?

I've tried everything to tame it and at different gigs. I keep my amps fairly neutral eq wise and always use an isolation pad under the cabs especially on a hollow stages and keep the cabs well away from a back wall too...

Does it do it with all strings you try, I’d be reluctant to change the pickups on your jazz , is it the lovely mint untouched sunburst one

It is the lovely collector grade sunburst one from Simon on here l bought in 2020.

Even at front room practice levels it does sound louder than the other strings unfortunately. I really bought this bass to gig it and not for it to become a case queen or just an investment.
