1. Walter Becker's bass line from the Donald Fagen album Kamakiriad. The late great and sadly missed Walter Becker would use open strings when most players would fret the note.

I have noted his use of open strings.

2. Until just recently I spent 16 years as a pro musician working on cruise ships etc. where everyone could read to a fairly high standard. Counting was never an issue except for long rests (always my downfall, on a tune which is unfamiliar). Still loving the bass I have started gigging with local bands. What I have found playing with guys who have no idea about reading music is that they don't always know about song keys but they also have no idea where the one is in a simple 4/4 bar. Case in point the band I was playing with recently covered AC/DC "Shoot To Thrill" which starts with guitar.  Some nights he would start on the downbeat and others he would start on the up. I found the only way to come in correctly was to count out loud to the drummer.

3. Found this guitar TAB site https://www.guitar.c.../tabs/tabs.html also contains accurate Bass Tabs/Transcriptions. Be aware that several tunes have the bass at the very end of the file so worth scrolling down. Also try checking out https://www.songsterr.com/ personally not a great lover of TAB but both sites show the rhythm in the TAB.

4. I recall when I started to learn to read my teacher advised me to not play the A,D and G string open. With this method I soon learnt the different positions for these three notes. Try this exercise. Play the scale beginning (C) on the 3rd fret of the A string using your 2nd finger to fret. Next 5th fret (D) of the A string with your 4th finger. Then 2nd fret of the D string (E) with your 1st finger, then 3rd fret of the D string (F) with your 2nd finger. Next 5th fret of the D string (G) with your 4th finger. Then 2nd fret of the G string (A) with your 1st finger. Fourth fret on the G string (B) with your 3rd finger and finally 5th fret of the G string (C) with your 4th finger to complete the octave. When you have played enough times that the fingering becomes 2nd nature using the same fingering start the scale on the eighth fret of the E string, the same scale of C. Now having learnt the scale of C still using the same fingering begin on the 5th fret of the E string (A).

5. I have just been offered a short cruise contract so unable to make a gig on the 28th August. Gig is at the Fountain Beer Festival in Herefordshire. It's with a female fronted 5 piece band.
I have 90% of the set in transcriptions so would ideally suit a reader. None of the charts are difficult so reading need not be up to a high standard. A full set list plus tracks can be viewed/listen to here

Need to sort this fairly quickly as need to let organizers know if gig has to be cancelled.

6. Hi guys, just need to clarify £800 is the asking price, not open to haggle. Shipping would be extra. I am reluctantly selling to get my van through an MOT, bass is well worth the price and any less would not cover repairs so would just end up keeping the beauty. Only trade I would consider is a Peugeot 206 van no more than 5 years old with at least 6 months MOT. ASIF!
