One of these is on its way; it'll get me started without wasting vast sums of money ;)

Nice one Bilbo, enjoy it :)

TBH I thought the 2 meant the same thing

    Not technically.

A 'Bass' Drum generally refers to the largest drum in an orchestra.
A 'Kick' Drum is what you'd generally find on a drum kit.

If the conductor asked for the bass drum & the guy on kit played his kick. He'd probably get a pencil thrown at him. :)

its a standard MAcBook so a little smaller than your pro...

If your worried about extra space, Mono are releasing a new case with more pockets pretty soon.

  4. Back on topic,

Just got back from seeing these guys.

As a collective, some of the best musicians i've seen. The amount of attention to detail taken in everything is truly masterful. If anyone has similar feelings to Siddx about the recordings, i strongly urge them to see these guys live before making a judgement.

The best £10 i've spent in a very long time.

thanks for the comprehensive reply guys... what i really need is, something i can carry on my back, has pockets for a mac book, headphones, leads, etc.. its needs to be lightweight, but very sturdy.... if i dropped it from 3 foot the bass and contents would be ok,.. sort of sturdy.

Got to be the Mono case then.

  6. Can thoroughly recommend the mono case. It goes every where with me and i never worry about the bass inside.

It's the lightest semi rigid case.

It's water proof & has a proper tough base on it so its not going to wear through like many other bags do.

  7.
The way it links the last six 16th notes with one beam. I would want to see it as 2 16th notes and then 4 seperate ones. Coralling them as 6 notes makes it harder to read, IMO. But I can't amke Sibelius stop doing it. The only option would have been to write it as 5 bars of 3:4 which, for me, wasn't how I heard it.

I'm not sure what settings you have on your early version of sibelius but i'm assuming you still have the 'keypad'?

The 3rd tab on the keypad has beaming options.

I think I know what you mean, it's just a case of they're having fun playing interesting/difficult music instead of trying to convey anything. It's very impressive though and I'd definitely go to a gig... although I'd probably feel like a technically rubbish musician afterwards :P
Without conveying anything?

Fair enough theres no words telling a story but i'm pretty sure each guys solo is there to say something....

I suffer from the opposite - Rhythms I find pretty straightforward, but it's reading the notes that lets me down. Sorry to hijack your thread, but any advice from you readers out there?
Practice, practice, practice.

Knowing where every note is on your fretboard is the first step. Most people think they know this but you need to have it without any thought or hesitation.

Next step is knowing the notes on the stave to the same degree.

The 'difficult' part is then deciding where to play that note on the bass, generally speaking you want to look for your lowest & highest notes on the page and choose the most comfortable/convenient position.

When i started, i'd open sibelius with a keyboard connected and just punch in loads of random notes from the keyboard as crotchets then set a slow metronome, pick up my bass and begin.

You'll begin noticing intervals at sight, patterns, and start seeing a bar as a word as appose to separate letters.

But this really only comes from practicing, as Bilbo has already said, there's no shortcuts.

They are fabulous, and there are some nice little things going on here and there, but I'm sorry, it bores me rigid.

Have a listen to the new album if you get chance siddx, you can hear it on their band camp for free. There's a lot more exciting things going on in it, of course IMO.

It will be awesome chris b! Im hoping to transcribe ground up during my break at easter

Halfway through that one myself. There's some interesting things happening in the harmony so enjoy breaking that one down :)

Yep, I added them to the Funk And Groove thread about a month ago.

You've just missed them. A cut down version was gigging in the UK in March.

They're still here, I'm seeing them in Manchester on Friday.

Good grief. The first piece of new music that's put a smile on my face in quite a while. I'm downloading their album from their website as I type this. £6.50 well spent... :D

Get both, and the DVDs. Well worth the money!!

  14. Love them, an absolutely great set of musicians, the new album came out last week and i'm seeing them on Friday, masterclass & show. Cant bloody wait.

One of the new ones, amazing!
