1. For sale or trade is my excellent condition (even includes original box) Sadowsky outboard preamp/DI box.

This is the exact same 2 band preamp that is fitted as standard on Roger Sadowskys basses, it compliments passive P or J basses beautifully and saves making any physical modifications to your pride and joy.

Until recently I used this preamp in conjunction with my Lakland passive basses - and it sounded absolutely sweet! I have recently switched to an Ibanez sr1205 premium which features an onboard Nordstrand preamp so have decided to move this fantastic little box on.

Price is £115 - however I want a Sansamp Bass driver so will do a trade off for one of those bad boys!

  2. For (reluctant) sale is my gorgeous 05 Korean Lakland Darryl Jones 4 string in black sparkle.

This model features the excellent Aero pickups and is very lightweight (the lightest Lakland I have owned or played). The reputation of these early DJ's kind of goes before them - this is the best jazz bass I have ever played. The action is very low, playability is awesome and the neck has been extremely stable over the years.

Condition is very good, only a small area of very superficial scratches on the rear of the body & a scratch on the metal bridge plate near the E string saddle. The neck has a bit of natural ageing in coloration but is in great order.

I had a Hipshot D tuner fitted two or three years ago and the sale will include a quality Gator hard case which is in great shape.

This bass has been cared for and although it has made limited appearances at some of my gigs it has not had a huge ammount of playing time. The frets therefore are in great shape.

I am realistically looking for in the region of £700 for her - the buyer either collecting in person or funding for shipment/delivery.

The only trade I would consider would be for a EBMM SR5 - however weight would be an issue due to an old back injury of mine!

This is a reluctant sale - but as I only play 5 string these days someone else now has the chance to own her. Thanks for looking :D

  3. WH I know what you are saying....my DJ is featherlight. It was yet another reason why I bought it back in the day (old back injury).

I have played some great Laklands...but they weighed like a ton!!! Thanks again for the offer of the Hamer...but I am really after a decent Warwick 5 or higher end Ibanez 5 string.

  4. Hi Warwickhunt, thanks for your interest in my DJ and the previous offer for the trade...it amazes me that more folk dont try to do deals in this way (trades, swaps) I may have bitten at something. Your Hamer looked good to be fair...but I believe that I have a very good example of a very good bass - I dont know now if I can part with it.

BTW I would not have ended the auction if it had received any bids...wholly unfair to do so imho. I pulled it before any were made.

  5. Hi Guys, I am the owner of this fabulous bass & a newbie here now thanks to Karl. I have cancelled the ebay sale of this instrument as it had no bids (52 watchers tho) but will consider selling it right here on Basschat over the next few days so keep your eyes peeled.

I am new here but am a veteran player and I have owned everything over the last 30 yrs from Alembics, Wals, Stingrays, Statuses, Vigiers to several vintage Fenders etc. All I will say is that this Lakland Darryl Jones is very special - very light and supremely playable with the punchiest tone.

As already stated I need a good 5 string so may consider a trade for something good.

  6. Agree that neck laminates are irrelevant when identifying Alembic basses - the difference between series 1 & 2, as has been previously stated, being the electrics!

I dont know if you have had hands on with the bass or not but things to be aware of when buying used Alembics are they are notoriously very heavyweight...certainly not for those with back problems. Also I would really want to have a look at the neck & truss rod, I am a member of the Alembic club and I would say it is folly to buy unseen. Do not assume that multi laminates make for a rock solid Alembic neck...the company has historically experienced several periods of time where customers reported real neck stability problems...including recently. I know a guy who owned a hugely expensive Alembic series bass and the only way he could combat the serious neck back bow after maxing out the truss rods was by fitting the heaviest guages of strings on the market to make it playable.

Also be aware...even Alembic say their basses are like Ferrari's - they can be high maintenance. Good luck all the same - nothing sounds like an Alembic.
