1.
I know it's boring, but I recommend you read the manual I have an alesis multimix firewire and it needs to be connected to a computer running recording software to do what you're talking about. Mine came with a free version of cubase, but it doesn't have the ipod slot. I'm guessing the ipod slot is so you can mix down to stereo, but I don't think an ipod is capable of multitrack recording.
Cheers, I have read the manual many times, I could be missing something as I'm not sure of terminology etc. I have mailed Alesis tonight , but I feel you answer will be the one. thanks
2. Hi all, This may be a stupid question but I'm a complete Recording Virgin so excuse me if I sicken you.... I got a voucher for christmas , it burnt a hole in my pocket for a week , and went out and bought one of these lads. I play a few bit and bobs and I have in my head that I have a lot of songs that I would like to record. I did do research to a degree before I bought this but due to the fact I have very little knowledge of music production and recording I'm confused about something and maybe someone can put me straight.. When I was younger I remember watching a friend record on a Tascam 8 Track. The room was quite "smokey" at the time so my memory is a little fuzzy. I remember him laying down a guitar track and then coming along a working out a bass line over it with the ability to rewind and practice it before finally recording the one he was happy with. My question is , is this something that my unit should be able to do, without connecting to a computer? I have an Ipod but cannot seem to figure if this can be done with this unit. Please forgive if it is a absolutely stupid question, but if it is can you let me know, i.e Tell me I'm thick... and I'll try research some more. I do have an old tape deck from a seperates system, is this something I can add to the equation. Here's a link to the product, Cheers http://www.alesis.com/imultimix8usb#1

5. Old Git, I think I may have seen these in my local B&Q in Ireland , I'll have a butchers for you over the w/e and let you know, you seem pretty hell bent on getting this one. It should be a quest for us all for you to be happy ... ^_^

7.
To use the painting metaphor, Jaco's bass is more like a set of Rembrandt's paintbrushes than one of Rembrandt's paintings. Jaco's legacy is his performances, not his instrument. He would have sounded as good on any other bass, whilst very few players would have sounded/will ever sound as good on tha bass in question. Ergo, it's not the bass that's historically important. Chris
Beedster, Ur spot on , and point taken wholeheartedly, I'm new enough to this bass game and relatively new to the world of the forum, I currently only have a couple of bass heros , Jaco , Doug Wimbish and Chuck Rainey and to be honest everytime I see Jaco he has that bass. May he rest in peace and his Bass rest in pieces.....
8.
and stole it away on shergar to his secret hidaway and then took it on the goodyear blimp to shangri-la ? i mean...tbh does it matter ? personally i don't care for the man's playing or his tone, but without the player it's just a hunk of wood and metal isn't it ?
Wood and metal it is, but it surely merits its place in rock n' roll / bass history, he may not have inspired us all but he inspired enough of us, and this bass is mentioned enough in all articles everywhere to warrant its own credit. How many other famous bassplayers and the basses that they use are so intertwined
9. Just googled this show and if it's not about Warwick it'll be about PRS guitars.
10. Lords and Ladies.. I know that this was discussed in another thread but cannot find it so here goes. On Sun MORNING at 5:00AM, the "How it's Made" programme features guitars. Someone mentioned before that they watched this programme before and it was from the Warwick factory. I may be wrong on sundays programme may be about those thinny six string feckers so I just wanted to make you aware of it, incase it is the Warwick Factory. Station is SKY Discovery Science (channel 535 ) The programme is again on at 6:00AM (stress the AM) but this time it's about guitar strings so should be interesting either way. Get up there and get you SKY+ boxes on starters orders to records them.
11. The ones that I have seen had a Jim Diamond look-alike with a 4 and 5 string musicman and a rock chic with a sexy voice and curves in a the correct places and proportions....
12. The Bass lessons on Rockworld TV were on in January, to be honest they wer'nt the best as it had some rock chick with him that constantly interrupted him when he was doing his demo everytime he went over 20bpm to ask him to slow down. She was asking him about what the knobs on the bass do. Bit of a head wrecker. I have 5 of them recorded on my sky box and there was nothing to do with slapping in particular just intro , chords, scales etc. all quite basic mind you.
13. Old Git my fellow SX lover, I have seen you make a reference to using 800 grit rubdown treatment, resisting the oppurtunity to make lewd comment about the whole rubdown business, can you tell me what's involved here. I'm am the very proud owner of a SX SJB LTD2 which is truly special but the gloss on the neck can get a bit lacklustre and thus sticky, cheers for that and keep pluggin' those special ones. I'll look after the Irish branch of the European SX Appreciation Society!
14.
My ego's smaller than yours...
this comment truly deserves some some of an award, legendary.....
15. I've played the SX Natural Jazz in a shop in Dublin last month , lovely little fella but suffering seriously from some weight issues. I'm talking noticably heavier than most. Bought a sexy SX LTD2 instead, not cheap but Ireland is expensive for everything at the moment.

SX basses

I have heard rumours along the lines of thunderthumbs that the SX "Starter pack" basses are not quite as good as the standalones but still better than similar competitors packs. In Ireland you can get SX's in Waltons in Dublin and I believe they sell on the web which may be good for you people from across the pond to consider as sterling is so strong at the moment against the Euro. www.waltons.ie
17. I'm currently reviving and old and ugly japanese Hohner and there is a serious amount of old gunk on the fretboard. Is it important what kind of detergent I use to clean the frets or will I just use small amount of soapy water , anyone any ideas? When my 4 yr old noticed I was in a pickle she suggested I put the neck in the dishwasher......"It'll be like new".....she reckoned...... Kenny
18.
Greetings Ken, you've picked BC eh... ? We'd like to think you've chosen wisely.... So go on spill the beans what tempted you back....
The burpster, that's one the best on-line names I've heard yet. pure class... Anyhew , My story is not uncommon, a woman entered the frame a long time ago and my babies kept getting hidden in more hard to reach areas in the house until eventually she convinced me that Maple wood flooring and not maple rosewood bass guitars are the way to go. How wrong she was..... After 10 yrs of listening to lots of good jazz/bossanova I realised I actually did have a rhythm in my bones. It felt so, so good to run up and down a few scales. Who needs drugs and women. lol
19. Hello to everyone in here, back playing bass after a 15 yr gap, it really feels great to have a pain tingle back in fingers. It's great to have the internet for advice instead of some cranky shop owner too. I've bought a SX LTD2 Jazz Bass and it's true love. Happy valentines day to me..... Anyway hello to you all.... Ken Ireland
