That is horrific.

But.... I actually think it's a good idea. I know Warwick have their Alien acoustic bass (which I think is gorgeous), but a proper HR Geiger/Alien bass could be a wonderful creation!


Edit: Of course, it would have to fight with Dood's Predator bass! :brow:

Although I'll never watch the programme, I've been liking the music on the trailer for that Elle MacPherson thing that's coming on. It's a track called [url="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AnW91MAIBhU"]Death By Diamonds & Pearls[/url] and they're called Band Of Skulls. Apparently.

Seriously, I've tried various velcros, and they were all cr@p. Main problem was that the adhesive wouldn't stick to the pedal(s). So I marked out exactly what I wanted, made sure all the cables fitted, then drilled the holes and used self-tappers through the pedal board, through the base plates, and into the effects unit casings. Rock solid.

Bit of a strange one. If I listen to this really, really carefully, it seems like there's an octave played on the A and C - it's almost like a ghost note. Anyone else aware of this, or am I hallucinating?

Major - I am going to have a go at this. I think what's confusing me is trying to play something written for drop-D tuning, on a standard-tuned 5 string. Sure, I have the low D, but it's not where the written music thinks it is.... if that makes sense!

Before I smash my gear up and go back to crochet, could someone please help me?

I've attached (hopefully!) a pdf with tab and score for this bassline, but it just doesn't make sense! For example, at the start of the 2nd verse (where the band comes in), the score says E, tab says 2nd fret of E string, which would be F#, but all I do know is that it is actually Eb. Etc., etc....

I don't know enough to transpose this, I can't find an explanation on YouTube, or anywhere else.

This is a really simple song, which Mrs HT loves, and I'm really struggling. As in stumped. Totally.

Can anyone help?

Tonight I just got "Time" from [i]Dark Side Of The Moon[/i] down, note perfect!

Most folks will think it's really dead simple, but I love it and I'm seriously chuffed!

Standard tuning should be fine. C# will be 2nd fret on the B string. Plus you'll have the flexibility of being able to play five frets higher and a string lower (if you see what I mean?) which gives a lot more bottom-end thump to your lines.

I set it by playing normally, turn gain up until clip light just starts to flash, turn gain down slightly, turn master up to achieve desired volume/structural damage.

Anyhooo, I think this month's edition is a belter. The Gail Ann Dorsey interview is excellent, and I'm really looking forward to reading some of the other features too.

I do agree to an extent about the mag being very pro-orientated. Not all bass players are pros, or even gig regularly, if at all!

I've said this before, but look at BIKE magazine. They get a selection of real world riders together every month or so from their readership, pop them on whatever group of bikes are being reviewed/tested, and get their opinions written up by the professional journos during a good blast. For gear reviews and comparisons in BGM, that sort of approach would be much more relevant and useful to us "ordinary" bass players.

My Cort (a 5-string) just gets called "the Cort". My 4-string is called "the 4-string", and my acoustic is called "the acoustic."

Mrs HT refers to them collectively as:

(b.) That f---ing thing.

A local singer/songwriter heard me playing and asked if I'd do some bass tracks for some of his songs. I've heard bits and pieces, but it's mostly going to be a case of making it up on the hoof. He wants "tight & simple", & "support the song", which is fine, because flashy I ain't! If it all goes to plan and he's ok with it then I'll link to his MySpace on here. He's a very talented guy.

I haven't done any session stuff (although I will be on Monday!), but from many conversations with a number of local musos over recent months, I can confidently say that there are a lot of guys doing session work who have barely a fraction of your knowledge and experience. Plus, with your positive and open attitude which comes across in your original post, I reckon you'll be absolutely fine.

This of course, is probably no help whatsoever.

Sold my Alesis SR16 to Barrie, who picked it up in person while en-route elsewhere. Top chap, very pleasant, and could have spent ages chatting bikes, basses, etc. It was a pleasure to meet you mate.

It's in "as new" condition - there isn't a mark on it - and it has its own dedicated mains power supply unit. I've just bought a Zoom B2, and I reckon the rhythm functions on that will be perfectly adequate for practise purposes.
