1. I'm sure I read somewhere that there were no effects or processing at all on the original. He plugged his bass straight into an old guitar amp with a torn speaker cone, miked it, and the rest is history.

When I play it, I back off the bass, push up the mids and treble, and add a bit of o/d. It's never gonna be the same, but it's passable.

    :)

  2. +1 for Hercules. I use the GS414B - first one on the page. It's a LOT sturdier than it looks in these photos! It gets used every day, several times, no issues at all. Strong, safe, reliable, and looks pretty cool!

    :)

  3. I definitely won't be using Camden Sounds again. OK, I got my issue resolved but it took literally dozens of emails and a threat of cancellation. Much of the information I did get from them was just plain wrong, as was their website. I see now that their website has availability back to 15th Feb, and Sounds Great Music (who I believe are the actual importers) also show it as "on order" now.

Might be quicker ordering direct from the US, as some of the guys on TalkBass have had them for a couple of months already!

    Hope yours turns up pronto!

  4. Well, it finally arrived this morning, and I have to say it's a lovely little piece of kit. Very well made, totally solid. A while ago a cannibalised an old dead gizmo for a 9v power supply board, and I've stuck that under the Nano with some blacktak (the industrial equivalent of blutak - it's vicious stuff!). Result is one very neat little board:

  5. OK, just emailed Camden and told them that it's available from another supplier. They replied to say they'd phoned the other supplier and it won't be available until end of this week at the earliest. I called again and confirmed that it's in stock ready to ship, delivery tomorrow by FedEx. Emailed Camden to cancel order. Once cancellation is confirmed I'll reorder from the other place.

    Not impressed.

  6. Anyone dealt with Camden Sounds? Mrs HT ordered a little gizmo for me for xmas as their website at the time said delivery would be well in time for xmas. Then it went to early Jan, then they said mid-Jan. Now they're saying despatch in 7-10 days. However the item in question is now available from another UK source from stock. Needless to say, we're not impressed. Just wondering if anyone else has had any good/bad experiences with them? Should we be concerned?

  7. +1 for MarkBass. Expensive, but by god you get some bang for your buck! My CMD103H combo is viciously, stupidly loud, earth-shattering low end (5-string, standard tuning), with beautiful balanced clarity all the way up into the harmonics. And it's surprisingly light!

  8. Does the socket have a little ring that screws/clamps it to the front panel? Does that need tightening up? Does the plug move around inside the socket? If that's the case then it's probably gubbed. Anyone competent with a soldering iron should be able to replace a board-mounted socket. Hope you can get is fixed soon!

  9.
Lovely. Not really my sort of music but i really enjoyed the tightness and groove.
+1 Really enjoyed that, so many thanks to the OP. I would never have considered anything like this, but off to see what else I can find!

    :)

  10. That really sucks. I can't imagine how physically and emotionally painful it must be to have to stop doing something you love.

At the risk of asking a really stupid question, could you modify your technique in any way to make playing a tad easier/less painful?
