Ok, my best friend is a guitar freak. He always talks about how tube amps are the only way to get a quality sounding electric guitar and how solid state amps are just useless for a guitarist! But I'm a bassist... There are such things as tube bass amps but are they the only way you will reach quality tone to it's highest level... ???

Ok. Firstly thanks as always for everyones thoughts. A few more questions? Is it worth changing the pre amp to an east retro j deluxe? Will this work for Funk/Rock - Maroon 5/ Later Chili's stuff? Will a 500 watt Mark Bass tube power a 4x10 and a 2x10 and still have a little head room?

Also should I replace the pick ups for extra quality tone? Looking for a fat, clean, smooth, crisp tone for Alternative Rock - Maroon 5, Later Red Hot Chili Peppers etc. I have the cash and I'm going to spend next weekend... Just want bc heads' thumbs up!

I'm currently just D.I' ing but I think I'm going to get a mark bass tube amp and a fender deluxe 5 string... Hopefully it will work nicely.

Ok, I love the tone. However, I play some big gigs with an alt rock, pop rock band. Similar to maroon 5. I find the Jazz bass tone perfect but the depth of the sound sometimes isnt deep enough. I use ernie ball slinky bass strings. I am a newbie to gear really and this is why i come to yourselves for advice.

Take for example Red Hot Chili Peppers or Maroon 5 style, alt/funk rock. I'm talking about the tube 500? thoughts?

I have a fender jazz however it isn't hasnt got the thick tone that I need. I am playing in a band similar to maroon 5, Later chili peppers stuff. Well produced Alt/funk/rock kind of sound. Musicman stingray and lakland both came to mind? Thanks, bassickman

Mark Bass Little Mark Tube 800 with Cab plus a 5 String Wood and Tronics Chronos Bass... thoughts? P.s I really like the sound and I know it's about preference. However, can anybody think of anything better? Or any potential issues with this solution?
