Cut mine in half with a jigsaw to make a (downsized) 2103H (2x10) and (wider than usual) AH300 SMX.

Cost me about £25 in MDF, feet and handles to make a new sleeve for the "head"
I also have a 1153 (1x15) with good (large diameter / lockable) Castors.
I stack it all on the 1x15 and strap it together with a ratchet strap. Bag on shoulder, bass in one hand, pull stack with the other!

In the main, the gear I've heard recently that's impressed me most has probably been Markbass.

Castors really are the way to go. They've saved my back a lot of grief! Stick them on your 1x15 and pile it all on that. Go careful, though, the whole lot can have a high centre of gravity.

Downside? Some people think you lose some bottom end from not having the cab directly on the floor.

Cheers for the info, I did think about cutting it down but I'm not great at DIY so I thought selling it & getting smaller things would be a better bet. I have now sold the amp so I'm on the look out.. I do know someone selling a warwick sweet 15 combo for £150 but then it get back to having 3 small things to carry, rather that bust my back up & downstairs..

[b]It looks like my trace elliot 122H 300 watt combo is sold pending collection & payment so I’m after a new set up that is going to be lighter to carry than a heavy combo. I’m after some advice so here’s what I’m thinking about:

A 300 watt head

2 cabinets consisting of one 2x10 & one 1x15.

Not sure of what make to go for on head or cabinets.

3 Items to carry have to be better for your back in the long run & I ain’t no spring chicken any more

If you guys & girls can point me in the right direction it will be much appreciated.

The budget is £500 for the lot but if I can get sorted for less it would be mint.[/b]

I am new to bass playing as my main instrument is drums.

I’m from a place called Whitley bay which is about 10 miles away from Newcastle upon Tyne & play drums in THE GASOLINE ALLSTARS.

So - "proper" acoutic basses.

As you'll find if you read a few more threads, the majority (if not all) acoustic basses do not have the equivalent volume to an acoustic guitar, although they can get close. But if you're hoping to jam unplugged with a couple of acoustic guitars, you'll get swamped whatever bass you have.


I MAY be selling my acoustic bass - a cheap (but good) Harley Benton. Full scale, 24 fret - big body so decent unplugged sound. Reasonable preamp for playing plugged in. I have replaced the nut with a bone one (which made a big difference to the sound) and it is set up really nicely. Would come with a gigbag and fresh strings. I'll PM you with more info.[/quote]

Cheers for the link & info on the bass, I think I'll give it a few more days before making my mind as I'm not in a hurry to get an acoustic bass. The Ibanez AGB140 seems to get mixed reviews & The neck being too long thing is putting me off a bit as getting acoustic strings maybe difficult.

I have priced the case for them & they are about £65 So that would take the bass & case up to around £300 so £180 is starting to sound a bit better, Not as good as £150 though! Thanks for the advice..

Yes I agree, it is a bit much considering what you could get. The only good thing about it is that it is near me.
I suppose I could sell the hardcase to get some money back.
Could you recommend anything for around £200 & do you think second hand would be a better choice?

Hello fellow bass players,

I may have chance to get an acoustic bass & I am pretty new to bass playing so does anyone know anything about the Ibanez AGB140 semi acoustic.
I have read a few reviews but wondered if anyone out there had one & could give an honest opinion of what it is like to play & how well made they are.
I am looking for an acoustic to keep handy around the house.
The chap selling it wants £180 which I thought was a bit steep as you can get a new one for £235 but it does come with a hard case.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, this is my first post on here so greetings to you all.

I am quite new to playing & not sure about a good guitar or a bad guitar.

I have seen a bass on eBay & wondered if anyone could identify the year or where it was made as fender squire precision bass guitars don’t seem to have a light coloured fret board with a black body so I am presuming its an older model or that the neck & body don't match.
