Ah yes, I forgot the Ultrabass. It is a footswitchable octave effect, similar to the Ashdown Sub-Harmonics feature. I do have the footswitch although if I rememeber rightly, the insulation on the jack lead is worn through where it goes into the pedal. I imagine that it would be a relatively simple job to replace the lead, or to replace the fixed lead with a jack.

If Hubrad can't help you, I've always used [url="http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk"]www.stringsdirect.co.uk[/url] for my strings, because I like a heavier B string than you normally get in 5 string sets, so I buy 4 string sets and individual B strings.

Just FYI, it was a limited run of 250, including both 4 and 5 string models. I'm guessing that it says 05/72 on the back of the headstock, which could be interpreted as number 5 of 72. However I believe that it means that it is the 5th Ltd Ed Series, and the 72nd instrument of that run. Mine says 05/12. If you search on google you can find 05/188, 05/25, 05/150, etc.

Lots of people get confused by the way they used to number the Ltd Ed basses, so they changed the numbering system a couple of years after this bass came out.

Was this a custom order? I thought that the LX came with a maple neck as standard.

I saw Korn at Download 2009. Really good. That whole weekend was great for someone who was just starting high school when Hybrid Theory came out. Korn, Marilyn Manson, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, and Slipknot all in one go. Slipknot absolutely killed it - best live band I have ever seen. Bonus for Paul Gray still being around.

I've always thought that the colour selections were awful. Why can't they offer the full range of colours on the American Standard basses to order?

What happens if he needs to change guitars mid-set?

I can't comment on Grade 8, but I had a Grade 6 book a few years back and I would say that most of the tunes were more difficult than any RATM songs (speaking as someone who has at some point learnt every RATM song that is available). They also had sections of improvisation, and I believe that you had to know quite a bit of theory. Like I said, this was a few years ago and it's possible that things have changed.

I would advise going into a music shop and finding one of the books and having a look to see whether you think you are up to it.
