  1. Ive now had this bass for 6 weeks and ive got to say its the only one ive got that doesnt live in its case, ive swapped out the tuners, stoned the fret ends and changed the strings but everything else is as it came from Thomann, ive got no problems with the bridges and can dial in loads of useable tones with the eq, the B string is as good as ive played and I dont even think about the fan fret thing any more, fit and finish are bloody good for a tad over £300 bass, its a tad heavy but it is a lot of bass. Would I recommend one?............yes, mine was B stock and apart from a few easily sortable niggles its absolutely spot on. As an aside ive also sold my Yamaha TRBX405 as for me this is a better bass.

I tried the Nux one, the analog yellow one, got it for £20 delivered. Word is it's the exact same pedal Hartke are selling as their 'bass chorus'. Can't fault it for the price!

Ive got one of these on my board, very good for the money.

  3. I was given this Aria by Chris `Mr Alpher` Dobson with my intentions being just to turn it fretless as a project but having seen the wonderful things that Andy has been doing with veneer i`ve decided to be inspired and go for a full strip and veneer top and bottom in either walnut veneer (love natural walnut basses) or my old favorite from my kitchen building days cherry. I might also keep it simple and just stick to the P pickup anyway this is what im starting with.

I will second a vote for Alpher Instruments.

Not as well known as others, but they build exceptional instruments. I have been through most British built instruments and nothing surpasses Alpher for build quality and choice of woods in my opinion, there is no-one like them. They only build two different model basses and restrict a few options for customisation, simply because they believe the design they have is the best instrument they can make.

They give each instrument they build the proper time and dedication it needs. Some of the builders named in this thread churn basses out at an alarming rate, Alpher's output is much smaller (my bass was only the 30-something instrument they had built) and that is incredibly reassuring to me.

Me and Chris have become friends following my commission and the guy honestly couldn't be any better customer service wise. Immediate response to emails and Facebook chat messages before, during and most importantly after the build. They are a joy to work with.

Check them out, you won't regret it :)

I can vouch for every word of this.

Is that the singlecut bass? Looks really good!!

It certainly is, I can honestly say that apart from the cheap tuners I cant fault it, finish is good, it sounds good, for a cheap 5er its got a really nice neck and the neck pocket is better than a lot of the fenders ive looked at and theres more of it!
