1. I bought these strings only last week. Its a combination I always have liked with something softer on the D and G. I assumed I would like that characteristic growl on a large french bass recently acquired! I was very wrong, the tension completely choked the instrument and I hated them, so they came straight off again! Effectively brand new - if you are reading this, you know what they are like. I'm asking £60 for the pair which includes posting to UK. Cheers, Christian
2. Hi, I am very tempted to invest. I love these basses - recently got an american special and have set it up for purpose. I'd would love a second with alternative set up. I was over at Harrogate playing Charlie's place the other day - had I seen this earlier, I'd have been in touch to drop in and have a look. Will consider the coffers !!! and get back to you. If I'm too late, my loss...... Bump!!!!
3.
Hi Christian, I've had your number passed to me on several times but I don't think we've met yet. I'm just down the road from you in Harrrogate, maybe we should meet up sometime. cheers Keith
Hi Keith, Yes, be great to hook up sometime. I see you have a Ten2 and a GK 150s going. Why is that, not your bag? I have recently got hold of a twin channel coda, fantastic for upright. Tempted by your 150s as mine at 20 years is starting to fade I was in your neck of the woods the other day playing at "Charlie's Place". Nice venue, had a good time. Are you ever over York way? Cheers, Chrstian
4. Hi, Having only dropped in to basschat via google searches and the odd random visit, I finally got around to sorting the account and having a good search around. Should have done it earlier, what a fantastic recourse! I'd add that I completely messed up my subscription and first listing attempt and was helped out and put right almost instantly by Ped, so many thanks. I'm a musician, bass player and teacher based in York. I mostly play upright though have had a recent surge of enthusiasm for playing electric. Looking forward to exchanging some ideas with other bass players and teachers about playing for fun and a living, pick up some advice and inspiration on music, gear, strings for upright (of course) and get some of this old gear listed! Anyway, I'm sacking off facebook, so looking for some productive online activity. A rather vague introduction, which I hope is appropriate. I have reliably been informed that in forum world, you'll all be quick to point out if it wasn't! Cheers, Christian
5. I have a Bass Collection SGC Nanyo SB310 if you are interested. It's a great bass which I bought for teaching on account of it being so light to carry around all day. Surplus to requirements as I prefer something more chunky!! I'm assuming yours is a Mexican precision at that price? Anyway, let me know - further details if your interested, Christian
6. Colin Cross Solo Double Bass. Built in 2008 for Jon Thorne (Lamb). A flat back 3/4 solo instrument. Amazing sound and playability. The Bass features: Highest quality seasoned spruce top and flamed maple sides and back. Adjustable Bridge Top quality Irving Sloane Machines A Morodian padded case, custom made for the instrument A thin neck for easy playability A truss rod holding the neck perfectly straight A short 39 1/2 inch stop length making intonation as easy as it gets Currently set up with Helicore Hybrid strings. Measurements: Lower Bout - 25" (65cm) Upper Bout - 19 1/2" (49.5cm) Length of Back - 43" (109cm) Stop Length - 39 1/2" (100.5cm) The instrument is small and very easy to play, especially in the high register. Built for, so ideally suited to a soloist. It has had one small cosmetic repair carried out by Koplin Violins of York. They have also recently carried out a full professional polish and setup. The list value of the bass is £18,000 which would cover the build of a replacement. This is an exceptional instrument and has been a pleasure to own and play. I am happy to provide more information, photos, and recordings of the bass on request. The bass has been busy and can be heard in recordings by John Smith, Martha Tilston, and more Recently Chris Helme (Seahorses) It is a very reluctant sale - I am now using an older bass, far less valuable, and cannot justify owning both. No Trades.
7. Hello, I have a black Musicman stingray 5. Had it for ages, love the sound, but really don't like 5 strings. I thought a swap it for a 4 string might be possible? There may be someone out there with just the opposite predicament!! Happy to post lots of details if anyone interested. Cheers, Christian
