  1. First up thanks to all who supplied meaningful information, comment and insight in response to my original query. It wasn't my intention to start a fire but you give some folks matches.... My NYC J-bass is now on order from Sadowsky and my P-bass from Valenti. Next project on the drawing board is a custom valve serial compressor loosely based on the Altec 436C TTFN Ian
  2. Hello all I have a an older style 65w Ashdown 5-15 practice amp bought cheap and (I suspect) as ex demo. Take the treble knob past seven(dots) and the distant sound of of the pacific breaking gently on the shore appears. Can anyone suggest the most likely cause of this and can it be rectified (preferably by me). My guess would be incorrect component replacement at some point in its life but have no way of knowing (I've never opened it up) or it could be that older versions suffer this. Apart from this I don't mind the overall sound of the amp it's not hifi but is more than adequate for practice and projects reasonably well in a small room. Any suggestions - other than dump it and get something else - gratefully received. TIA + TTFN Ian
  3. Hello Im thinking seriously about ordering one of Sadowsky's NYC basses rather than the Metro series. I've seen a few threads praising Valenti (personally not so keen on the headstock style). Does anyone out there have direct experience dealing with either of these companies. Really want pointers on the process. Specifications, shipping etc. I've scoured the official websites. But first(second) hand knowledge would be useful. It will probably be Swamp ash body maple neck (not sure about blocks yet) and possibly the p/j pickup combo. I have a '98 Fender Am std Jazz with same specs (except pickups) Any thoughts, suggestions or experiences gratefully received. TIA PS I had good experience ordering Sadowsky preamp/DI. V good service both from them and FedEx so I don't have any doubts re integrity of company.
  4. Hello you've probably already got one but in case you haven't I bought mine direct from Sadowsy's online shop paid using VISA in dollars received it ahead of estimated delivery date by Fed EX who then send a bill for excess custom duty. Very efficient service from Sadowsky - total cost given the exchange rate: £143 (incl VISA comm charge) plus £18 duty. Total £162 plus change. UK prices from authorised dealers around £225 (this may include the power adaptor) which I didn't bother getting. Sadowsky included a battery :) Hope that helps anyone thinking of getting one of these.
