  1. Yup, on the case in a clear envelope is best - allows customs to check the document without having to rummage through the package.
  2. Currently enjoying this improvised jam from Cory Henry and Michael League. Love it!!!
  3. Going to see Snarky Puppy in Glasgow this Saturday.
  4. Saw John Smith in Oran Mor, Glasgow last week. Wonderful gig - great voice, and fantastic sounding guitar playing. Really nice guy to chat to also.
  5. I'm going to see John Smith at Oran Mor in Glasgow tomorrow.
  6. I did a gig in Glasgow bar where one of the audience stood to the side of us while we were playing our first set, while nodding along with a serious look on his face. He did this for another couple of numbers, the sauntered off. Two songs into our second set, he reappeared, this time with a black padded holdall type thing. He then unzipped it and produced.. a saxophone!!! He then proceeded to parp along with us on the number we were playing, while us in the band were looking at each other quizzically. Turns out we all thought he must be a friend of someone in our band. Wghen the song finished, he put his saxophone bag into his holdall thing, and then disappeared out of the bar! All very odd!!
  7. Erm.... Will Young in Glasgow tonight (my friend Paul Turner is on bass)
  8. JJ Burnel from The Stranglers for me - got me enthused about playing bass when I was a 15 year old. Then, when I was 17, seeing an amazing bass player with Jools Holland (just after he had left Squeeze). Supporting The Police at Ingliston Exhibition Centre, Edinburgh, on New Year's Eve, 1981. The bass player blew my mind - so fluid, muscular, and inventive. I thought, "now, THAT is how I want to play"!! The bass player was Pino Palladino! (incidentally, I still remember the bass he played - red Fender P-Bass, no scratchplate, small curved chrome control plate, and a Jazz pickup in the bridge position).
  9. I looked through a number of my playlist, and these tracks are always featured within my selections. Love each and every one of them. ABBA - The Name Of The Game, and Dancing Queen. BEATLES - Here Comes The Sun ROD STEWART - You Wear It Well THE WHO - Won't Get Fooled Again PINK FLOYD - Comfortably Numb, and Time. KATE BUSH - Wuthering Heights and The Man With The Child In His Eyes Kinks - Waterloo Sunset RUFUS w CHAKA KHAN - Ain't Nobody DEACON BLUE - Your Swaying Arms DAVID BOWIE - Heroes, Fashion, and Ashes To Ashes HUMAN LEAGUE - Being Boiled PET SHOP BOYS - West End Girls BRUCE HORNSBY- The Way It Is ELVIS COSTELLO - Watching The Detectives EARTH, WIND AND FIRE - September YAZOO - Only You
  10. Listening to this 4 CD live album. Ged Grimes'*Musicman Stingray sounding fantastic throughout.
  11. My list would be different from day to day. But for today, I've looked through my vinyl album stash, and picked out these albums that receive repeated plays (as my vinyl albums get played a full side at a time. CDs are too easy to skip through tracks after all)
  12. Just received this CD/DVD set of Paul Young and The Royal Family live at Rockpalast. Looks like it'll be a fretless bass-fest for me this weekend!
  13. Just received this CD/DVD set of Paul Young and The Royal Family live at Rockpalast. Looks like it'll be a fretless bass-fest for me this weekend!!
  14. Going to see Roderigo y Gabriela in Glasgow tomorrow. Should be good.
  15. Crass - now that's a band I haven't listened to since the 70's.
  16. Personally, I have sold basses to buyers in Germany, Denmark, Portugal, France, Monaco, Italy, Belgium, and The Netherlands. Each one went without any problems (although the delivery to rural Portugal took a couple of days longer than expected). Because of the the EU membership, it was a really straightforward process, with no cross border problems (even the sale to Monaco had no issues). If Brexit actually happens, it'll be back to the old days of import / export taxes and tarrifs being applied to such sales.
  17. GONE - SOLD ELSEWHERE I've got an unused set of chrome plated Brass Saddles by Gotoh (model S11C). They are standard 10.5mm string spacing units. £15 posted in the UK for any of you 6 string twangers. Go on, treat yourself, you know you want to!!
  18. Mickeyboro - the DVD will be with you soon.
  19. Anyone want a freebie copy of this 2 disc set? I've just discovered I've got a spare copy in my stash. No cost, and I'll even post it to you for free as well (UK addresses only!!) Let me know.
  20. I'm seeing Tom McGuire and The Brassholes on Sunday at the Hug and Pint venue in Glasgow. Should be another blisteringly good gig!
  21. As Lozz says, the Fender "Original" series of pickups have a definite mid "push" that I found pretty unpleasant to my ears. I've been using Fender "Pure Vintage" Jazz and P-Bass pickups for my recent basses, and they sound fantastic. I've also used the Custom Shop units, which are really nice also.
  22. I depped on a covers gig a couple of weeks ago. A lot of the same tracks that have been listed on this thread. I was given a prospective setlist a couple of days prior to playing. On the night, however, there were a few tracks thrown in without any prior knowledge! (Barry White's "the first, the last, my everything", Queen's "Crazy Little Thing", etc.) I had to try and remember how they went. Thankfully, I got through it, but it was pretty unnerving. I was offered a place as the regular bassist if I wanted it, so all was well.
  23. This thread has made me look out this 3 CD album for another listen.
  24. My favourite is definitely "Exit Stage Left" (even though it is one of the muddiest sounding live albums ever). Favourite studio album for me is Power Windows - love it!
