Yeah, this neck is a one piece maple neck and my tech did mention heat treatment but wasn't convinced about it.
I'm trying to remember but I think he did put in spacers. He is a well respected tech/luthier but I am going to see who else is local who may be able to have a look and offer another opinion.
I would be concerned about the fingerboard being leveled without somebody making a mess of it, I would have to be 100% happy that they were going to restore it. It would require the binding being repainted, blocks reseated in the neck and the lawyer re-applied.
Right now, im edging towards just getting an all parts neck. If anyone can recommend any South Wales guitar Luthiers/techs please let me know
Thanks for all your feedback
Looking on eBay sold items just now, there was a 70s bullet truss rod maple neck with tuners removed, worn looking, sold for £275. That would be problem solved, with ready-made wear & tear.

Heat treatment - Bass Gallery Camden.
I have had that done to a jazz bass neck. It was great for a while, then bowed again, less than before but still not able to get my preferred action. It was a 1 piece neck. Understand that a separate fingerboard neck can give a better long term result.
having said that if it has worked for others it’s worth a punt as you have nothing to lose.
if that doesn’t work, you do see 70s neck for sale occasionally. I would keep the finish as is. A neck solution can be found, even if it takes time. Best of luck.

I have 3 JVs. One is good, the other two are fabulous. One is around 9.5 lb, the others both a good bit lighter. Owned since 82,84 and 88.
I have never played a bad one. They seem to typically change hands for £5-700, which seems ok value to me, so I’m not sure where the hype is.

It should be no problem for a good luthier to add frets. Speak to the bass gallery in Camden, or get Overwater to do it for you.

How many layers does it have?
My 83/84 Squier branded JV has a 4ply plate
Apologies, it is the '84 that has the extra layer -- 4, the same as yours. The '82 has 3 layers to the plate. (Have edited my earlier post)

- The first few months of production exported to the uk have the large Fender logo. Serial numbers up to very approximately JV10000. I don't think there are many other significant detail differences. I have '82 and '84 jv Jazz basses (Fender logo and Squire logo)The '84 has an extra layer of ply to the scratch plate. That's about it.
the Fenders with JV serials are a whole different category and not one I know much about, but I believe the 21frets website has all the infoyou need.
Great basses, have had mine since '83 and '84 new.

Very sorry to read this. It would be useful to know the area they were stolen from, in case the thieves try to dispose of them locally.
I hope they are returned to you safely.

I'll be quitting this band. I've been in this situation too many times and my patience is too thin to put up with it. The kicker last night was they couldn't even play the songs they'd supposed to have learnt for last week, let alone the ones for this. The basses will be going back in their cases and will, at some stage, probably be seen in the for sale forum.
This year was the first year in the last +10 years where I wasn't in a band, and it's been a good year. I've spent a lot of time fishing with a mate of mine and taking my kids. Last Saturday I took my eldest fishing, I loved every second, we had a belting day. I've not felt like that in a band, not that I can remember. So...day off Tuesday, weather looks good, I'll be getting the rods out, NOT learning songs.
Taking your kids fishing is the best thing ever. Simple pleasures.......

I would happily look at any number of pictures of your basses, particularly your fiesta red 63. Sublime. If you ever wish to reduce numbers further, I'd be pleased to cover the postage............

I agree, BC is the most friendly forum I have encountered, full of encouragement, with the least amount of unpleasantness.
Long may it remain so.

A Fender jazz bass, with offset body and narrow nut, but in the style of, and with the same appointments as, a 51 style first generation precision bass - tele style headstock, one piece maple neck, Bakelite parts, slab body and blonde finish. Not sure how popular it would be, but I guarantee they would sell at least 1.

Based on a 10-minute google search, Amazon paid £4.6m tax in the UK last year on turnover of £10.96 billion. To put that in perspective, with a similar sized UK revenue, M&S paid £65.4m corporation tax alone on turnover of £10.46 billion in 2018, in addition to business rates and the tax generated by their 80000 employees (compared with 27500 for Amazon).
In effect, Amazon is subsidised by the UK taxpayer. Handy for Jeff Bezos, I'm sure he would find it difficult to make ends meet otherwise.
Until our "leaders" adopt a strategy to extract a proper contribution for access to our markets, our high streets and indigenous businesses will continue to wither. I never buy on Amazon, or from Starbucks or a variety of other businesses for these reasons.

Yes, the first thing I do when I buy a bass is put on a couple of metal covers that hinder playability...
Then shave and refinish the neck

The retailer often sells it to them at 50% of the mark up price (because they’re on the telly), if you or me went in and said I’ll give you half of what your selling it for, the retailer would tell you politely to fook orf.
I have tried that. They were not polite.

For sale Pre EB & Pre MP Stingray Bass.
Yes, an original Music Man bass, from the golden era before EB and also before Sterling Ball-Ovary III announced being gender fluid and changed the company name to Music Person.
Fixed that for you

Why did you replace the pickups? Were they broken?
Sadly, they had already been replaced before I bought it.

And a replacement pickguard I guess? Looking great!
Thanks 🙂 Replacement pickups, guard, finish, decal and pots. Fingerboard had already been replaced, so I didn’t feel bad about further modifications.

Another HT-1 user here. Very nice range of cleanish into breakup sounds available. Not super versatile but a great little amp for not much money. If you are not gigging, there is more than enough volume for home use and more driven sounds are available at low enough volume to not have to worry about annoying family/neighbours. It does my 66 Tele justice.
