I knew you’d know mate 😉
He's right. I bought the backup Stingray via the gallery, about 2013, also a 79 and in very good condition.
I resold it via the gallery last year. It was still on their website when I last looked recently. According to Martin Petersen, when Pino was there recently, he tried my 62 Fretless jazz bass, currently for sale. I doubt he would have asked for a letter of provenance like I did.

I recently bought a CS Jazz Bass from Andy. He was a pleasure to meet and do business with and I could not recommend him more highly.
Thanks Andy, I'm loving the bass. Best wishes, Guy

Not so much in the UK, but it's definitely affecting gigs abroad for people I work with (and potentially me soon). I've had various techy and muso friends had things pulled in the Dubai/Bahrain/Saudi area in the last week, another friend had a big Asian tour cancelled, and a few big exhibition/conference events in mainland Europe have had the plug pulled, leaving a lot of production companies in a bit of a hole.
I'm due in Italy for some gigs in mid-April. The production manager isn't booking the flights just yet though, he doesn't sound too confident!
Good call. The price of airline tickets may well be significantly lower in a few weeks.

Stunning bass ! I'd definitely recommend dealing with Andy. He's as reliable and as knowledgeable as you could ask from a vintage gear seller.
GLWYS Andy
Agree with the above. Have recently bought a CS Jazz Bass from Andy. A pleasure to meet and do business with.

I have recently acquired a CS stack knob which I am really enjoying. I haven't played a better modern jazz bass. I have 7 other vvt jazz basses, from 80s tokai to 4 pre cbs examples. In my opinion, there is much more variation in the basic tone of a random sample of similar instruments than there would be by swapping from stack to vvt. Stack is great. As is vvt.

How can you not like the lived-in look? Thanks for posting these, nice start to the day

Most of my basses are old and battered, some with large areas of finish missing. I much prefer the comfort to play and freedom from concern over damage.
And they look great in my opinion.

Another A5 vote here. More than once, mine has been described as " the best sounding bass I have ever heard". Coincidentally, that has never happened when I have been playing it.
Rick turner Renaissance basses also sound great, but rare in UK

This is a great price for a super bit of kit.

Used Godin A5. Mine is strung with a low B, but I don't see why it wouldn't work E-C. Lovely tone and very easy to play.

They're all nailed to trendy city pub walls.
I have a 62 jazz bass which has been drilled through just above the nut, probably for just this purpose.

My uncle owns a 1962 Jazz bass. He is a total show-off and can barely play a note. I hope and pray that he will leave it to me in his will. In the meantime though what a waste.
I wasn't aware I had a nephew in Birmingham

I’ve written a letter before now, and posted it through the guitarist’s letter box.
Is that a euphemism? (Sorry, just read later posts)

The unmodded ones were either the unloved ones or owned by players who had no interest in experimenting with different sounds etc. If you thought you were going to improve it in some way, you changed it. Everything was hacked!
Or was that just me...?
It's surprising that only the 100% unmodified original-finish ones seem to come up for sale.

This Hercules rack is excellent, you can buy a cheap expansion pack to add more capacity. This is by far the best large rack I’ve ever used.
+1 for this. It's first-class.
My wife bought m one for Christmas a couple of years ago. I subsequently came to regret pointing out that she had created abundant spare capacity with all the empty individual stands. Apparently, that wasn't the point.

Speaking as a past, present and future buyer of pre cbs fender basses, I have no issue with refrets whatsoever. Same for defective pots. The idea of buying a bass I couldn't use, in order to preserve originality, does not appeal.
There are, I'm sure, buyers who will reject a refretted bass, but not a sufficient proportion to seriously affect the value

I don’t think there’s many people under 42 in bands these days anyway are there? 😕
Not on here

That is very appealing indeed. The solid rosewood neck gives a completely different look, irrespective of the scratchplate ( I like the white ) is there a separate fingerboard or is it a 1-piece neck?
very nice score- I'm quite envious.......

As the Tokai is missing out so far, it certainly gets my vote. Is the neck quite chunky for a Jazz? Mine of a similar vintage is - interested to know if yours is the same.
3 very good buys!!

Any discussion online involving anything Squier reverts back to 'my Squier is better than most Fenders" or chat to that effect. Double that for CV Squiers, and quadruple that for '80s Squiers.
Thanks for explaining that so clearly. I'm such a tool! I'm probably a bit touchy due to my inferiority complex.

Re burglaries - when a friend of mine was broken into, the robbers left two very nice guitars that he had out on stands but stole the two near-worthless ones he'd left in their cases.
Convenience and portability clearly being the priority...
I was thinking the same thing. I'd put the cases in the loft

I've only overpaid once for a bass. I took a bath on a Godin Shifter bass I traded a Japanese Mustang for. I wish I kept the Mustang.
I wouldn't mind Squiers so much if the owners weren't so touchy and didn't have such an obvious inferiority complex.
'80s Squiers are treated like gold dust, but I've never played one that out-performed a well dialled in modern MIM Fender instrument. They just don't feel or sound special to me. What is it about this particular strain of thick poly finishes, automated manufacturing, zero electronics shielding and low quality fretwork that you all enjoy, over any other Fenderoid instruments out there?
Like all of us, you are entitled to your view, but I’m not quite with you on the inferiority complex bit?

I am also very fond of my HT-1, and I I got an opportunity to compare it with the HT-5 in a shop. I was just after something for home practise and recording, as I wasn't gigging on guitar at the time, so I saved my pennies and plumped for the 1W; under different circumstances I might have been more tempted by the 5W. Both are good for doing high gain stuff, but I was mainly looking for something which could do a could "clean-going-into-breakup" tone, and they were good for that. Worth trying the HT-5 before buying if you can - they have "a sound," and it can be a bit divisive.
Also worth bearing in mind that they're hybrids - I forget which way round it is, but either the preamp or power stage contains the valve, while the other is solid state.
Another HT-1 user here. Very nice range of cleanish into breakup sounds available. Not super versatile but a great little amp for not much money. If you are not gigging, there is more than enough volume for home use and more driven sounds are available at low enough volume to not have to worry about annoying family/neighbours. It does my 66 Tele justice.
