It’s a common issue with darker boards. I resolved it by getting large LumInlay dots put in.

Yeah, I've had that problem on another bass where the dot spanned the line between the neck and board and found it difficulr to set. I've not personally had that problem on the Bruce Thomas myself as the dot is fully on the dark ebony board, but as you say Luminlay's are the best of all!

Lightweight, tons of features and 31 frets, I say again THIRTY ONE FRETS. Someone won't be able to resist 😂

That fretless is bonkers!! PS the Gittler website appears to have been hacked so be wary if searching for further info.

  3. It's hard for me to determine whether relic is convincing because I've seen so few examples of e.g. pre-CBS Fenders in the flesh, and the only one I've owned was a refinish.

The variation in visible wear on vintage basses I've browsed over the years though is huge: e.g. James Jamerson's basses always look pretty clean in the pics I've seen, versus (for example) this:

    https://reverb.com/item/33112524-1961-fender-precision-bass-in-fiesta-red-finish-with-original-hard-shell-case

...with the paint worn alll around the back edge and back-of-neck discolouration all the way up to the neck joint and on the E side. So 'what does genuine distress look like'? would yield a range of answers.

Despite that, I suspect there are some golden rules too look out for (e.g. the nitro crackling as mentioned earlier in the thread vs obvious attacks with a sander)

Never have to with Ben and a James, they’re both really well behaved!

That's good! Same for me thankfully; but if we ever have the organ involved I go up an octave - there's no way I'm competing with it :)

  5. Love mine - out of all the basses I've used in my noisy covers band: guitar, keys, sax, harmonica - it's been the one which punches through the best.

I currently have it strung with full fat La Bella 760Ms which is amazing through a Noble preamp. But I miss the sound of the stock Elites it came with, so may have to get a Bass Centre Detroit Bass for Motown duties ;)

Where do churches advertise for musicians? I confess I didn't realise they did until reading  this. Nor that they paid.

All our musos are members of the church and play on a volunteer/service basis. We’ve had a few friends sit in to play when we’re short. But we don’t advertise or pay team members.

Yeah,  same with us. We sometimes struggle to fill certain slots but have learned to account for it  - playing without a drummer is quite the experience!

  7. That's excellent Trevor, and great to hear the Pro 2E so present in the mix! Thanks for sharing and a great job by all :)

Please may I ask the video software used? I'd like to try this out for our church too. And will be nice for me to have the chance for multiple takes on the bassline for once ;)
