1. All the way from memphis, contraband version to please your 6 string bloke, or mott if you prefer.

You wont like this, but, once pissed, everybody likes participating so they can shout out the chorus . So old rockers done up, such as great balls of fire - Feelgoodxs style, or Wooly Bully, Blockbuster, Cum on feel the noise, that sort of thing are always crowd pleasers late on.

  2. I got a similar one, extra screw in the middle of the scratchplate, holes for a pickup cover and and a thumbrest, same bridge, same tuners, same hole in the heel of the neck - which I've replaced with a Mighty Mite Jazz one now. A good hefty (very hefty) Bass that plays well, Pups werent great, but I replaced them with Kent Armstrong vintages, Made a hell of a difference btw.

I love it, but I've been trying to find out who made it for years. I thought it was a Hondo as well. If you ever do find out for sure, could you let me know ? Never heard of Musima myself.

Edit.. Just a thought, but does it have a sort of plastic bung on the back of the body behind the bridge ?

  3. Anybody who remembers 70s Antorias would probably agree. This might be nice if the price stays snsible..Certainly as good as some of the Fenders were at the time.

Didnt put it in Japcrap thread, Not sure where they were made.

  4. Finally got around to refurbing my old Bassman. Trouble is, last 2 and next 2 gigs are miles away with back line already there.

I'll get round to using it eventually. Sounds great here.

    Thanks for replies all.
There were two hotels at that location, both had cctv which is good, but neither would let us access any recordings at the time.
They insisted we wait until normal working hours,(Monday).

Seems to happen a lot, usually citing the DPA, which is bullsh*te. And with the M6 only being just up the road, it could be anywhere in the country whithin hours. If you noticed it quickly amd got a description of what they were driving you'd have at least been in with a chance,, Old bill might have been more interested as well.

I wonder if the tyre getting slashed might have been to prevent you following them if they were disturbed.

Sickener, just the thought of losing that much gear...........

Excellent, thanks very much for clarifying this guys.

I am buying a 4 ohm cab, as it's lovely, great price and a good size for small to medium gigs, but as it's only a 1x12 there may be times when I'd prefer to add a second cab, but my amp doesn't go down to 2 ohms.
Well, If the second cab was a 4 ohm 1X12, you could add it in series, total would then be 8 ohms. I woulnt expect to notice a huge difference in volume, though.

  7. Make sure you know up front where the money is going, ie is it an even split, or more for whoever books it / owns the PA etc.Even if its just a pub band doing one gig a month.

A mistake I've made twice, once cos I was a bit green and hadnt made sure, - one a local band where the one guitarist and the singer thought they were the stars, and the singer owned the PA, the drum kit, transit and we used his factory unit to rehearse.

We seemed to do a hell of a lot of freebies or very cheap gigs on his 'turf'. Two whole years of 2 or 3 gigs a week before I accidentally collected the dough myself at a regular gig. Turned out I wasnt the only one who had been kept in the dark
Since then i always make sure.

    Or one disgruntled ex-guitarist.

You don't need an expensive accountant, they don't want to see a box file of receipts in April! If you don't have the time, which is unlikely, you can always use a bookeeper. Set up a simple Excel document to record income and outgoings.

Claim for everything and that's the beauty. Do you spend 3 hours a day rehearsing in a bedroom? Electricity, heating, water, rent etc are all expenses related to your music business. Not to mention the strings and petrol.
Not sure if you can do this with a part time occupation. I'm sure sombody on here will know more.

If your wifes not working, she can do all your books polish your Basses, and answer the phone etc. And you can claim for her wages. long as you dont pay her enough to have to but a stamp theres little or no paperwork, and no checks to make sure you actually give her the cash..

Nice one! I've been sorting out various fuse ratings for conversion of USA to UK running (different bit of kit) and I know that the voltage had a direct relationship with the amperes required for the fuse rating so wondered if there was anything in the actual power output figures (you know what sellers are like at quoting the best figures that they can :D ).
Only the mains fuse rating will be different. Any fuses on the secondary side of the transformer, or DC fuses will be the same.

As a guide, halve the mains voltage = double the current & vice versa.

  10. All the way from Memphis would be nice, theres a good cover version on youtube with a female Bass player, cant remember who they are now though. and some really great Mott the hoople live versions on there of course.

Been playing with tribute type bands and Rock n Roll bands the last few years though, so seem unlikely I'll get to do it, at least not for a while.

I think the thing to remember is that it only takes one person to see you pocketing a wad of cash after a gig to make a call to the TAX office. Then you are stuck with trying to prove that you haven't made any money. The onus is on you to prove you didn't make any money rather than on them to prove you did. I think it's still one of those rare guilty until proven innocent areas of life.

The TAX office can look at your nice shiny toys, and villa in Spain and say well you only earn £x,000 from your day job and potentially you could earn £y,000 from gigging so you owe us £z,000. Pay up now! I think you get 30days or something ridiculously stupid like that.

Your best defence is to keep a gig diary of every gig you do and how much you get paid. Then you'll get an idea of how much you're earning pretty quickly. Keep all your reciepts and write them in the diary too. Think this is how the caught Al Capone, so be careful, if it does start mounting up, pay the TAX.

At least when they come knocking you have some evidence that you're not earning as much as they think.

I can't see the point of trying to claim back a couple of hundred quid on your PAYE tax, I would rather try to stay under the radar and spend my time earning more money then messing around dealing with the TAX office. Anyone tried calling them lately? Their telephone options list is horrendous.

Also, I always go into a back room or side coridoor when dealing with the money. I gave my drummer an earful once when he walked up to the stage at the end of a new years eve gig flashing around a couple of grand in used fivers and started counting it out and divvying it up in front of the people leaving the gig. Very Bad Form.
100% agree with all of this. it only takes one jealous punter.

  12. Looks the part, and looks nicely built. I cant understand the lack of interest. People are paying much more on trying to get that sound from solid state amps with one valve in the pre amp and modelling pedals. I'm sure anybody who tries it will want it, wouldnt be much work to alter the front end would it ?

I'd be tempted if I didnt have an old silverface that I never seem to get chance to use.

  13. Only my opinion, but based on experience of being Self Employed for 35 years. Its not worth bothering to declare income from a few pub and club gigs, which, at least in my case, not much loss, and not much cash. But keep a record in case you run into problems, otherwise their estimates of your earnings could be just about any figure they snatch out of thin air..

Getting investigated is a pain in the arris, I know, been there with the Inland Revenue and the Cusoms and Excise seperately, and its not something I'd like to do again. It was for silly reasons, and I had done nothing wrong, they blamed it on 'shoddy book keeping' Luckilly I had insurance against being investigated, otherwise the accountants bill would have been astronomical, and way way more than the tax bill.

Without wishing to offend forum members who have given some sound advice on this thread, theres truth in this well known old picture, It really is only the accountants and lawyers who come out on top

Not exempt, just that it cannot be set against other income in the year only carried forwards. There are rules in the Taxes Acts that govern what you can do with losses.

They are basically saying you are not carrying on a business, but a hobby, and therefore cannot offset the losses against other income (getting a tax refund in the process). If circumstances change you would need to tell them, and it would be advisable to maintain notes of all the ins & outs in the meantime, particularly if you think the circumstances might change and you start making a profit in the future and want to take advantage of the built up losses.
Sorry to harp on, but do you mean that I should pay tax on the odd fifty quid or so I get from gigs, but cannot claim for my expenses because its just a hobby ?
