  1. I have a 32" 5 string RB Corvette and a 34" 5 string German Corvette. I'd agree with the above that the RB isn't quite the same sound as the German version but it's still very good. Probably my punchiest bass and I have no complaints.  If it helps I've linked a live video of my band that I'm using it in, just a phone recording but may be useful.

I'm so interested in these units, but it befuddles me that it doesn't have a DI. I get it's probably aimed more at guitarists than bassists, but still.

Scant few videos of these with bass.

    One day....

I use one of these and find it ideal for gigging with - it's designed to go into an amp or DI rather than straight to the desk, that's what the Helixy things with the amp sims are for really. This is just effects.

I currently run it into my VT Bass DI for FOH and take a parallel clean output from the DI to my amp so I can tweak FOH and stage sound separately.

One thing, I found the sounds improved greatly with some appropriate HPF and LPF cuts at each end.

I quite like the tone from flats but i need to slide a bit in some songs and i find the flats burn my wee dainty fingertips.

    Dave

I'm liking the flats feel, one thing I think they do lack compared to rounds though is an aggressive slide sound. But the reduction in finger noise is good overall. I usually play active, but with the passive Sire and flats I find I can abuse the strings a bit more without getting 'too much' - still getting used to them really.

What flats did you put on there. I'm thinking of giving flats another go on one of my basses but wary as didn't get on with previous go. Happy New Year.

These are Dunlops that I had previously tried on my Sandberg and not really liked. But they work well on the Sire. Can't string through body though.  I'm not Flats expert, always been a rounds guy but think I get them now 😉

  5. Two good purchases for me.

Sire P5, 5 string passive. Never had a P bass and I wasn't shelling out for a USA Fender. It's rather good now I'm getting used to the tone ( different from my Warwick!) even put flats on it. The tort scratchplate had to go though 😉

Also, my GR208 cab. 500 watts and 4 ohm, only 10kg. As we always have full PA now think this may be the death of my big rig. Awesome little thunder box.

I'm going to second the recommendation of a Sire P5R . Light , simple , great sound and not too expensive . I bought mine as a backup to cover all bases , and it now gets played more than most of the others . A truly versatile bass .

I got mine as a bit of an experiment, I've never had a passive P or anything without two pickups. I stuck flats on it too, again something new. It's a different fit in the mix and my band really like it, I miss a bit of 'snarl ' but nobody else seems to 😉 Great bass and I'm gigging it.

  7. I have 3 :-

Ashdown ABM600 iv, GK MB Fusion 500 and the TE Elf. I use either one or both of my Berg 1x12s (the ceramic ones.)

I love the sound of the ABM and two cabs, but for smaller gigs I find that it chokes out a bit at low volumes. So, it only gets run out for bigger, noisy gigs now.  We usually end up taking me out of the PA.

I'm finding that the other amps work well with one cab and are plenty loud enough (I angle the one cab set up) so given we always run either our 'big' pa or 'small' pa and both have subs - it's mostly the smaller amps and 1 cab that gets loaded.

Weirdly, when rehearsing (we are a bit loud) the smaller rigs seem to struggle a bit, which they don't do live - probably because we are all in small box, or because I'm standing closer - still fine of course.

  8. In case anyone is interested this is how I've mounted it under my pedal board. A bit Heath Robinson but think it'll do the trick.

The unit is just stuck in the pipe using a small stack of those self adhesive pads you use for craft stuff.

  9. Hi all

I've just got a secondhand Ipad to mount on my mic stand so I can mix my in ears - I'm sure others do similar things too.

Anyhow, I thought it might be handy to be able to power it in case it runs out of battery over the course of a gig. This helpful Youtube video made up for my lack of electrical savvy and I've just tried it and it works! Just thought it might be handy to know. I'm using a 12v supply from my Truetone CS7  - don't forget to reverse the polarity!

  10. Maybe have a look for a used Sire of some sort , might push the budget a little higher (but resale will hold up better) - I just got a new P5 5 string, it's my first Sire and the neck with the rounded edges is really lovely. I think they all have this feature and it makes a tangible and tactile difference to the 'comfort' of the neck, so might be an especially good call when learning.

Airstream DMX is worth checking out. iPad control to a small receiver that is then connected via DMX to your lights. There are two apps, both free. The Pro app is the one to use as it is updated regularly with new features. There are two receiver options - one has only a Wi-Fi connection to the iPad and the other allows Wi-Fi or wired connection. You only need to buy one of these. If you want further information please feel free to PM me.

Thanks - I'll have a look at that!
