In case anyone is in the York area Sunday my Gary Moore/Thin Lizzy trib band MOORE LIZZY are at The Roman Bath St Sampson's Square in Central York... Show starts 6pm this sunday. Please be sure to say hi :-)
You can find us on facebook or you tube for info
Thanks -
Our show starts like this...... House lights & music down, roadie fires up the smoke machine, turns up the FOH sliders & plays our intro (haunting celtic music/ ww2 air raid siren) during which we take our places. Drummer counts 4 then we hit the first chord of Thin Lizzy's Jailbreak as the lights go on flood!

Both very nice!
Lazzer in terms of the wear did you use a bit of sandpaper or just loads of playing? After the finish goes into the shiny look how soon after that did the top layer of the paint come off?

I actually used a Leatherman multi tool, roughed it up a bit with the file, scraped it a bit with a blade even chipped it a bit in places. I took a pan scrub to the machine heads & control nobs & have to say they look fantastic.... I had no problems mentally lol in doing this, especially after seeing a you tube vid of Marlowe DK at the Sandberg factory, where they showed some of their ageing techniques. Hope that helps -

My 2010 HW P-bass in black with rosewood & mirror pickguard fitted....yes I'm a Phil Lynott fan! Also my 2009 USA P in sunburst. The HW is just as good in my opinion & is ageing nicely (helped along slightly by me) -
Although totally not for me, have to say that looks absolutely stunning! Enjoy...

Gig rig ( yammy 4x10 & monstrously heavy flight rack) lives either in the garage or boot of car whilst a spare 4x10 lives in my dining room also a powered monitor which I practice through......... suits me well like this
-
bump for a great little amp, very underated... used one for last 4 years without any issues
-
Easy, Phil Lynott's tone with the Roland bass he was using on the Thunder & Lightning tour, through 2 dynachord rigs... As heard by myself quite close to the stage at Leeds Queens Hall 1983. The sound & sight has been etched on my brain ever since!

Always been a big Deon fan after being dragged along by a girlfriend to see Wham in their heyday! And George was superb too......
-
My years been pretty good to be honest & by year end will look like this.....
Main Band gigs ( Bad Dog) 70 gigs
Other live stuff & Deps 15 gigs
Original recording sessions 3 projects (not all paid)
I'm reasonably happy with that & expect next year to be even better, 25 bookings for 2011 in the diary already & rising weekly -
I've suffered with skin splits in the finger ends (very painful on the fretting hand!) and sometimes used skin glue.....even good old superglue on the very odd occasion!
I also use Neutrogena hand cream daily in winter -
My 74 Jazz is really light & defo made from Alder....... Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't Ash mainly used for the clear coated bodies?
That example on Bass Direct looks a beauty anyway & not massively overpriced in my humble opinion -
Maybe not what you want to hear, but I usually don't attempt to replicate any B.Vs or even listen to them at home. Instead I'll wait until rehearsal then just go for it and it just works. I seem to have really developed a knack for finding harmonies on the spot & being able to "blend" my voice with the lead vocal.... As has already been stated B.V.s are a skill of their own, but one that can be acquired with lots of practice- I'm always singing along in the car BUT not usually lead vocals, instead trying to find harmonies! Enjoy......

To me, rehearsals/auditions are times when I like to use the least amount of volume possible & to get some work done. I don't want to come out of a studio with my head ringing for hours on end........ I would avoid this band like the lurghi

No gig bag for me as I now have a drawer in my amp rack which houses the following;
SM58
Mic lead
2x instrument cables
2x speaker cables
AKG Bug wireless system
Leatherman multi tool
Guitar stand
Spare Strings
Jack Daniels Towel
Paracetamol
Sudafed
Vocal Zones
Wrigleys Ice Gum
Condoms (better safe than sorry!) -
Yes, I thought it was an Alembic too? Sounds amazing have to say..........
-
Norman Rocks! Always been a fan, always will be............ so dissapointed I had a gig when they played Pocklington recently
-
Yep, I'm a big Norman fan............ groovy as fcuk!

Interesting topic! My checklist for a drummer goes something like this....
Confidence; will he take charge & lead the band where necessary
Practice; is he prepared to/able to practice other than at band rehearsals VERY IMPORTANT UNLESS HE IS SUPER TALENTED!
Fills; he needs to hold time during fills, not rush or drag 'em
Basics; can he play a very basic straight beat solidly & in time ALSO can he count the song in at the same tempo he starts playing the song in!!
Oh yeah, can he remember to bring all of his kit to gigs!
Cheers. Ben -
Let's see, starting with Friday night's gig which was a dep gig with local classic rock band Dirty Wish, went pretty damn well except for me thundering back into the chorus of "allright now" after the solo, instead of going back to a verse......never mind, am so used to playing it the other way with my regular outfit!
Then, last nights was good fun & quite an honour to be asked in my opinion. Played bass in a 30 minute set as part of Legacy a Mick Ronson Celebration at the Springhead in Hull. Les Nichol played some scorching lead guitar & Ian Hunter's son Jess joined us on stage to sing a couple of his Dad's hits & Tracey Hunter & her band did a set too... Had a nice chat with Suzie Ronson after the show, who was lovely. Really enjoyed watching a band called Eureka Machines do their set of original stuff which was very high energy & tight as a nun's
All in all, great weekend

Good topic! As it's a question I often ask of myself as I have to schedule 2 day jobs, 3 bands, bass students, part time dad, missus etc etc. It tends to go something like this... well you have to be versatile to make a crust these days eh?!
Mornings, personal training clients
Afternoons, internet sales business
Tea times, personal training clients
Evenings, spread between 1 or 2 bass students, 1 or sometimes 2 three hour rehearsals & a couple of gigs............ oh yeah & life goes on in between, sometimes!
Cheers
Ben
