1. Incidentally, Mike, if you go for the Shuttle 6.0 instead of the 3.0 you get a good tube front end - sounds like that's one of the things about the BBB that you'd want to keep. And the Acme B1 really does sound like a bigger cab, so it may eliminate your hankering for a 12. I was amazed when I first heard it. But you need quite a bit of power to get the best from it, so again, I'd recommend the Shuttle 6.0 over the 3.0. K.
2. Hey Mike - how you doing? While I don't have specific experience of the Baby Baby Blue to compare with, I just wanted to vouch for the GB Shuttle. I'm now using a Shuttle 6.0. Most of the time, since I'm generally going through the PA, I just put the Shuttle into an Acme Low B1 (1x10) which I have up on an angled stand and use it as an onstage monitor. On those occasions where I'm not going through a PA and need to shift a bit more air, I put the Shuttle through my trusty old SWR Bigfoot (2x12). Both setups give me a glorious sound (IMHO!). I can officially say that I have no GAS for any more amplification (at least until the Bigfoot dies of old age)! Incidentally, before getting the Acme, I used an Epifani UL 1x10 in the first of these setups. Didn't do the job at all - no bottom end and it generally farted out at any kind of volume. The Acme is a whole other world. I'd be worried that the Epi 1x12 you're thinking about might be closer to my Epi 1x10 than to the Acme B1. Anyway, I just can't say enough good stuff about the Shuttle - tone out of the box is just great for me - I don't generally touch the eq on it at all. And I like SWR - used to have an SM400, a Bass 750 and a Workingman's 10 and loved the tone on all of them - so I'd say the Shuttle's tone is likely the same ballpark as your Baby Baby Blue. Karl
3. Hi all, Regretfully, I'm selling my Steinberger L2 bass. This is one of the original graphite composite headless basses built in the Newburgh facility in New York, with EMG pickups. NOT one of the many inferior wood copies that proliferated later. I bought this second-hand from a seller in the US about two years ago, having spent a long time looking for one. I've gigged it only once, but used it extensively in the studio. The previous owner gigged it a lot. It dates from the early 80s, and as you would expect of a bass of that age, it's not cosmetically perfect: the white Steinberger logo has long since rubbed off, and at some point a small chip appears to have been taken out of the lower bottom back corner and repaired (see photo - lord only knows how that happened - these things are practically indestructible!). The previous owner neglected to mention this in his auction, but it really hasn't bothered me. The repair's good and solid. Like many of its vintage, it's also missing the plug-in leg rest. Again, this hasn't been an issue for me, since I always play standing up and the innovative boomerang pivot strap assembly is all working fine. On the strap, the bass balances like a dream - one can only wonder why more guitar manufacturers didn't adopt a similar strap system! Sonically and functionally, this bass is in perfect working order. The tone is as bright and pristine as you'd expect of a graphite bass - it's a fantastic slap-machine - but roll off the treble and you've got a classic dub reggae sound. The two volume controls (one for each pickup) and the tone knob are smooth and silent. If I could afford to keep this, I would, but the credit crunch and a growing family force a sale. This is your chance to own not just an iconic musical instrument but a piece of design history. Any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm keen for this to go to a good home. Photos available on request. Thanks for looking, Karl www.myspace.com/harambe www.myspace.com/karlclews
4. Bump for this, still unsold. Photos now available on request! Cheers, K.
5.
I might be interested in the head, do you have any pics?
Hi there, Sorry, my digital camera is out of order right now, but cosmetically the head is in very good shape. There are a couple of tiny spots where the black paint on the front has scraped off, but nothing noticeable from more than a foot or two away and nothing that affects the legibility of any of the dials or controls. No dents or bumps. It's been kept in a hard case the whole time. You're welcome to come round and look at it if you're in the east London area over the weekend. Just give me a call: 07940 513756 Cheers, Karl
6. Hi folks, Up for sale: SWR 750 head - excellent condition, always stored in hard case, which I'll include in the price of the sale: £399 SWR Workingman's 10 combo - great portable amp, surprising amount of punch and low end for its small size, this has easily kept up with drummers in blues jams and pub gigs over the last few years: £199 Or make me an offer for the two of them. I'm in East London and would prefer local pick-up. Thanks for looking! Karl www.myspace.com/harambe
