If you're happy I'm not sure why you'd change something?

I don't like the DG pre, which is why I'm swapping mine out...

Haha yeah! I guess it's curiosity as the Haz is said to be such a part of the sound! I find the Darkglass pre very aggressive though, don't use much of it but it does give me what I like!

Yep, I linked Bass Direct up with Lonnie West (LHZ) and persuaded Mark to bring some of his preamps (& pedal version) for the UK market. Bought 3 for myself too!

Would you consider changing the darkglass pre to the clone Haz if you were happy with the Darkglass?

I'm not into that super super grindy 80s spector sound but I do absolute love the tone of my LT5

  3. I had a stingray body made by them.

It's a good quality, light alder body. I sent them the status neck to make sure it was a perfect fit.

I would use them again. I think the woodworking aspect and wood quality is great.

  4. Thought I would update as currently using the Hartke gear for its first tour!

Firstly, I'm not sure if this a first for me but I have voluntarily turned the amp down on stage, I think I'm running it at just below three on the dial. Huge amounts of volume and only using a single 4x10 HL cab. Playing from Concert Halls to club shows.

Running with the tweeter off, bass at 3 , mid at 5 and treble at about 2 is giving me a very full, warm tone that really bites and gets aggressive when I dig in which is perfect as the set is pretty dynamic. Really love the high end the speakers deliver, it really just helps you sit in the mix and still hear the definition of your playing on stage.

I'm running my Spector in the passive input with a very slight boost of treble and bass on the onboard preamp, just sounds like that little bit extra push really gets the amp working.

  5. Just restrung my LT5 with Rotosounds and intonated and set up the bass and I love the bridge on these basses!

Firstly no screws for adjusting the intonation! Instead I can use an Allan key, the saddles actually move when you adjust the intonation and it's the quickest and possibly first time ever I've managed to intonate a low B in tune!

Then there's the sound of the bass with the Swing Bass Strings. Really brings the bass to life and it really sings!

Also ended up getting a Hiscox case for it and it's pretty much a perfect fit for it, if anyone else is wondering about cases!

  6. I definitely get withdrawal if I don't play it for a day or two because I always want to play it. For me it's also a job but I also absolutely love playing it and apart from a few years where I fell out of love with it in my twenties (I got fed up with being a touring band musician and lost sigjg of why I loved the bass) I've been playing it since I was ten so it's been like a best friend and I find practicing like a sort of release in the same way people like going for a run or a walk!

  7. After some advice regarding a hardcase for my Spector LT5.

I need something that will survive being thrown into vans and going on planes and through airports.

The obvious option would be the fitted Spector hardcase which I can get on an artist deal but I'm also considering a Hiscox hard case too.

My main concern is the headstock really. In my fender C&G (?) Hardcase the neck doesn't lie flat in the groove and the angled headstock is taking all the weight of the bass which I fear is a bad thing!

So wondering if anyone had experience of the Spector cases and that they are fitted so that the headstock isn't taking the weight and just general longevity of the cases?

Same goes for the Hiscox. Obviously they don't fit the exact shape of the Spector but you can put inserts in?

    Any others I should consider?

  8. Lighter fluid apparently. Not a joke. Haven't tried it myself but if yoi research enough you'll find people talking about it, I think they call it something else in the States... Naphtha?

I've restored a good few Warwicks. Lots of careful sanding and wire wool and you can get them looking like new.

  9. Still going strong!

Really enjoying the GK 800 at the moment and one of the V4 Ampeg captures. Found the GK800 broke up nicely and running a compressor before icontrolled the low end so the low b didn't break up more than the other strings.

What I find strange (or maybe it's from listening on headphones at the moment) is that the Ampeg captures seem really, really bright. I downloaded some of the neural dsp presets with the aguilar captures and found those were all hyped with additional eq and compressors pushing the captures to break up. Sounds cool but again find them really, really bright.

That being said I listened back to a gig that was recorded and the bass didn't sound bright at all, infact it sounded warm but my memory of the bass in my in ears was that it was bright!

I'm looking forward to capturing my hartke rig in the new year as that is my favourite set up, live in hope they add a Hartke cab to the cabs as I find the the virtual mic positioning and options really useful in shaping the sound.

  10. I think it's fine. I think for now I'm going to safely bundle up the excess cable from thr power supply and mount in on a heavy duty 1 gang extension on my board and perhaps by a spare power supply!

  11. Ah I would love a HA series amp too!

Did another session again this weekend, again the amp and cab delivered. I had. Quad Cortex running into the front end of the amp so I could still use the LH eq section and it sounded bloody great, though it was prob overkill. Looking forward to having some time in the new year to actually do some Hartke captures for live use and to be able to set yo the Quad Cortex for live use with my Hartke rig.

I worried about the power supply as well. I stood on mine as well!  I haven't noticed any wiggle in mine, just went and checked and it's in there pretty tight. Do you get any interference with the power supply? I ended up sticking it on a pedal board with the CIOKS power supply.

I've tried the supply into a few other pedals and the wiggle is the same! The power jack goes into the QC and does the click in so I think its fine. The unit hasn't powered down yet anyway!

It's one of those things you don't think about until after it happens! Worse comes to worse im sure its repairable.

Went down a rabbit hole looking for a replacement power supply. The Cioks is nice but expensive and I only need power for the QC. Considering a Globtek power supply l.

  13. Update, took the QC to it's first session. I was using my hartke rig as it was a live situation.

Was really impressed how natural it sounded plugged directly into the LH1000. I've in the past always found putting preamps into the front of amps odd sounding, like super imposing one sound on top of another. Really quick to edit levels to balance things out and really enjoyed the tuner... which is probably the nerdiest thing I've ever said.

Annoyingly towards the end of the session a videographer accidentally stood on the power input jack, luckily a quick kick from me in the back of his ankle and he moved his foot. I thought he had destroyed the input jack but thankfully it seems to still be working on powering up. There is a little wiggle room witht the power connected , is this normal on other peoples QC's?

I've looked at my other pedals and they seem to also wiggle a bit when you move the power input jack so I'm thinking this is normal! Just a worry when you've spent a whole posh of cash on something like this! Firmly putting it on a pedal board from now on!

  14. Just got the Quad Cortex and I'm blown away by the captures. Found some very nice aguilar, alembic and audio kitchen ones. Can't get over how real they feel!

Looking forward doing some of my own captures of my hartke rig!
