6. well i took my ric 4003 to martin sims and im glad i did he done a sweet job on it, filed the nut down adjusted the relief, balanced all the pickups and individual poles done intonation etc all for £40 and more importantly he knows a lot about ric basses double truss rods etc, i went there on sat and he done it for me in just over an hour, his skill and experience on building and setting basses up is 2nd to none in my book, one of the nicest blokes ive ever met and spends time with you chatting we must of been talking for an hour and half after he done my bass he's so enthusiastic about what he does, got a great setup in the factory and the showroom where he builds all types of custom guitars, he's got some pretty mad basses and 6 strings there, seems like theres nothing they cant make for you there. well worth the money.

15. im taking my ric to martin sims next sat to have it properly setup the intonation needs sorting and the neck probably does need tweaking , im not confident to start messing about with any of it,he'll sort all that out he's superb with ricks ive been told by a few peopl, being a newbie its very hard for me to know what string setup is good for me, do i keep the ti's they are much softer and easier to play finger style than the pyramids, really dont know what to do now, do i keep the ti's on and get it properly setup ? or try GHS- strings before i take it down there on sat, need some good advice flats are an expensive business lol regards Chris
16. hi ive just bought a set of ti jazz flats on my rick 4003, after playing them for a while im not sure about the low tension, i seem to get a lot of unwanted noise from strings, i mean the other strings vibrate/wobble with these as im no good at muting yet as im a newbie to bass im now thinking of putting these on a cheap bass that i have and buying a set of ghs precision flats for my rick i dont know what gauge tho , they come in GAUGE GUIDE MODEL# 1st-G 2nd-D 3rd-A 4th-E 3025 FB45 FB60 FB75 FB95 M3050 FB45 FB65 FB85 FB105 3050 FB55 FB70 FB90 FB105 M3050 seems to be the most popular for sale any advice would be appreciated either about my ti jazz flats or a string change or good flats in general, i had a set of pyramid golds on the rick which were ok but not a great range of sound compared to the ti's regards chris
17. do you think it would benefit me having it pr setup ? i mean having a new 4003, ive put ti jazz flats on it, i dont know how good a job ric do on a factory setup, like a i said im a noob to bass, but id just like to know everything is setup sweet befor i start taking lessons again regards chris
18. Hi i'm a beginner to bass and i'm looking for a teacher who specialises in teaching bass only preferably, I would like to learn technique theory etc Regards Chris
19. Any other people have had their ricks setup by Martin Sims ? Let me know i'm thinking of taking mine down there ?
20. i would like to ask hmm should i persevere with the pyramids and get it pro setup or should i change for diff flats and get it pro setup ? regards Chris
21. thanks for all the replies, how do you know which are light medium or heavy tension, sorry to sound stoopid lol but like i said im a newbie, i never picked up a bass until about 3 years ago when i bought a hofner cos i love the beatles, i ordered the rick about a year after i bought the hofner and it only arrived 2 months ago after waiting 2 years and a bit for it, im taking it to a bloke who was recommended on here to set it up properly for me martin from sims guitar works, he's so highly regarded that people send him their ricks from abroad to setup he's gonna charge me £45 which i though was dead reasonable, heres my baby
