Walnut sandwich between the front and back woods... sorry if that is stating the obvious and you knew that. :D

yeah, it just looks like cool little piping, like the good old day Y fronts :)))

  2. They were quite popular in the day, back around 2000/2002. I tried one and it took me ages to decide between that and my USA sterling.

Matey had that up as buy it now/best offer for £650 ish before this listing. I offered £400 but he wanted at least £550. Bit of a gamble not playing it. They look better in natural wood finish.

Another thing to try before replacing any parts is to lower the height of the neck pickup in relation to the strings. In other words tighten the 4 screws holding the pickup so it sits lower in the body.

If that doesn't fix it I think it's most likely a duff pickup, I'd be surprised if a dodgy pot would cause the sounds you're describing. Might be worth taking it to a luthier or guitar tech to get it checked out if you don't like the idea of playing around with a soldering iron.

EMG active pickups are pretty good, I think they can sound a bit sterile compared to original Fender items. To get the best out of EMGs I used to run them at 18v but finding space for two 9v batteries can be difficult in a Jazz bass.

Hi guys. Tried fat richs idea of pick up height at practice at the weekend and it worked at treat after some fiddling. Cheers rich. Will still keep an eye out for some newies but this has seriously helped. Thanks again
