  1. I played.

    One acoustic guitar part.
Both 70s style twin lead parts.
    Bass - natch.

My mate played. 2nd acoustic guitar part. He's much better at the picky stuff than I am.

I make no apologies for the twin lead and the bass having loadsa chorus on it.

    Merry Christmas.

Just a word of caution. We use and IPR1600 as a foldback amp and had a few problems with condensation over that last few gigs. In from the cold into a hot venue and it doesn't work for about 30 minutes until the condensation evaporates. Never had that with an amp before.

Only amp I ever had that was with my old TNT, but that was just a matter of plugging it in and turning it on first. When everything else was eventually set up and turned on, the Peavey had awoken. Our guitarist joked that maybe it needed bled like an old radiator.

  3. Many of you have commented on the bedroom sound not translating well to a live setting.
    Couldn't agree more.

It's all about the mid, not the scooped mid deep and trebly sound.

WIth the current Spector, I get on well with both pickups. I roll off the neck until it sound slightly thinner.
Then boost the volume to get the bottom end back. Bingo, just as fat but with more mid by biasing a tad to the bridge pickup.

Having said that, I have some video from summer's End and it sounds big beefy and fat. Not that I'm complaining. A good engineer rules.

  4. I have a Westfield bowlback worth about two bob that I got off Gumtree.
It was no more than 'all right' when I first got it.

Then I had a bit of a fiddle with the truss rod and bridge and now everyone who plays it comments on just how easy it is to play.

I do really like it now. It's a cracking guitar.

When I'm slouched on the sofa, it works just fine.

  5. Crown XLS602s, I have two of.

I'd never say that they were light by any manner of means.
Our two are in a flightcase and when all the gear is being lifted, that's the last case to get lifted every time. Every walks around it.

The Peavey IPR1600 weighs half of nothing. It weighs less than the gator plastic flightcase that the Crowns live in.

Not aware of the reliability of the Peavey, but if it's reliable I could easily buy into one or two of those with no problems.

  6. IColour 4 here x two.

Previously did the par cans route, but it was all lots of carrying and setting up.

I'm sure we draw more than the 13 amps that we're often provided via a single socket.

Just checked, our Crown XLS602 amps each draw 6.5 amps apparently, which is convenient into a 13 amp socket.
It just so happens though that everything else is often into that same circuit.

How on earth the lights stay on, I don't know.

Overkill in a pub. (before I learnt just the littl'un would be enough)

    Nonsense.
Too much is just enough :-)

See my pic for similarly stupid pub rig.
We're only here once, enjoy B)

  8. I'm good to go now with a full rig pic. B)
SWMBO was going out to the shops earlier, so I took the opportunity of asking her to stay out for a bit whilst I fire up the old Trace and see what this baby can do.

Snapped a couple of pics whilst I was at it.

It's not what you'd call an ideal practice amp.

  9. We carry Marshall 4x12s lighting rig a decent sized drum kit and a Logic System PA.
The way I look at it, there's already a van carrying the stuff to the gig anyway, my bass cabs being a bit heavier doesn't make much difference.

Thankfully, we've lucked into a very amenable local chap who loves getting involved and carrying the gear in his van, so it's win win really.

  10. Pete.
To a degree, I would have to err slightly disagree with you here.

If the parts on your Squier are indeed worth that then of course you're 100% correct that you could sell them on for that.
And yes indeed, you'd have a standard bass provided it came with all the stock bits to screw back on again.

All I'm saying is that to many people, the premium, especially if you're not getting the stock bits chucked in, isn't really that strong.

You know what, even I haven't a clue if I'm talking bollocks or not here, so maybe best I leave it at that.
I'm as tight as a camel's a**ehole in a sandstorm so maybe I'm no fair guide.

    As you were ;)

Well... if you hear of anything :) I'm pushing 50 and have no ambition beyond enjoying myself and getting (hopefully) an bit better with people I get along with.

Go onto that Feckbook thing, find AM Rehearsals in Cumbernauld. They're regularly posting ads for bass players wanted.
I'll see if I can make the necessary link. If it helps, I'm not exactly difficult to find on there.

    Nothing wrong with pushing 50.
In all 3 of my bands, everyone is best described as "trans 50" to varying degrees, but that's certainly the mean age across all of the bands.

  12. If there's a gig where a Trace 1048 isn't capable of moving enough air to be loud enough, I don't want to go.
That's far too loud for my old ears.

Similarly, I don't have any doubts whatsoever that the 150 watts of my old Trace AH150 into my 1x15" and my 2x10" cabs will move enough air to get me into serious volume trouble should I choose to. Which I don't.

    Mr Foxen is right.

  13. If you recognise all of this and the rest of them don't then I'm afraid you're far too good to stay there.

Bands work best when the members are approaching being equals.

Your band doesn't sound at all like that.

As I said up the thread, you're not a million miles down the road from me being in Carluke and there are plenty of bands in this area looking for decent players.

  14. We appear to be in the same part of the world.

    Ish.

    I'm in Cumbernauld.

There's certainly more gigs than there are players in this area for pub bands.
AM Rehearsals in cumbernauld are forever posting 'bass player wanted' ads.

Incidentally, we seem to have mutual friends according to FB.

It's not that bad, get out and into a gigging band that's up to scratch.

I've just bought a new Hartke head so will be moving my Ashdown ABM Evo II 500W on when I can be bothered if you're interested?
    [/quote]

Pukka amp there. Plenty meaty enough for the job paired with a nice matching Ashdown cab.
