The ones I like are the sunburst maple with the black blocks, the Aston Barrett style, a friend of mine sold their one a while back and didn’t even tell me
I’m more black body and maple neck. Brownmark, Prince & the Revolution.

It is a looker and a play wouldn’t hurt, would it? Good weight too.
Man alive, we’re a hoard of enablers!
If any of you want to bully me into buying a maple necked early 70s jazz bass, fill your boots!

You need to play that bass, man. Do it, we only pass this way once!

Perhaps then the title of this thread should be;
“Is there a popular bass player, that you DO get, as far as their popularity is concerned, but cannot for the life of you understand why because as far you’re concerned they make a horrid noise?”

Looks like you got a nice low action there too
As requested but I actually took the D and the G half a turn up at the bridge after a few days of playing.

They do look like big frets!
Well I had to get my money’s worth!

Would you mind sharing a close up of the frets/binding/nut now it's been done? Also what wire did you settle on?
Good question. Don’t know! It was the size bigger than the one Jon initially suggested and they’re stainless steel.

I'm still thinking about having my '73 Jazz done. The frets are virtually non existent now, but it still plays well. I'm worried that everything I like about this bass might disappear if I have it done!
I had the same fears but they all disappeared as soon as I plugged it in and played it. Think of it like this; everything else has aged wonderfully and now it’s ready to be played like the day it was made.

Over a month ago now, with a little trepidation, I left my 74 Jazz with Jon Shuker for a refret and new nut. Also had a little of the slickness taken off the back of the neck.
Had it back a couple of weeks and could not be happier. Plays like a dream.
If you’re considering doing this I’d say get it done, you’ll wish, just like I have, that you’d have done it sooner.

My Warwick Thumb bolt-on 2001 Ltd Edition swapped on here with @Rich_uk77 for a 2004 Stingray, which was lovely, but I never got on with it and sold it soon after. I’d love to have that Thumb back. What was I thinking?!

Bought a Boss LMB-3 Limiter Enhancer from Rob.
Pedal arrived really quickly in excellent condition and was well packaged.
Do not hesitate to interact with Rob who is a top bloke and a credit to Basschat.
Highly recommended.

@mike f if you really want the best/most fun ambient pedal, grab one of these!
(although as mentioned, i wouldnt be surprised if TC added their freeze pedal [the tc infinite] to the plethora)
Ah yes!

@lidl e thank you so much for your extensive reply. Very much appreciated.
I agree, that there are no overdrives, fuzzes or distortions is in no way a hindrance.
Happy to keep on using my Boss tuner as I use it as a mute anyway.

@lidl e ok the Plethora x3 does look and sound amazing. Initial impressions however have it moving dangerously into multi fx territory, for me, something I’m keen to avoid and should have mentioned in my OP. So, how do you rate its ease of use? Particularly with a view to using it live?

Plethora x3 is the best ambient tool around and would lkely be cheaper or as reasonable as the line 6 or Bosses.
Youd get the hall of fame and the flashback and like 8 more pedals
Ok cool. I’ll take a look.

Line6 DL4 Mk2
or
Boss DD8 and RV6
or
TC Electronics Flashback 2 and Hall of Fame 2
Mostly for home noodling but with a view to their being used live.
