That Fwonkbeta does sound very interesting. Been watching the thread on talkbass with interest. Keen to hear your feedback on that one Dannybuoy. I'm still loving the Chunk, Mu-Tron 3x and Q-Tron filters of this world. My go to filter pedal at the moment is the humble Micro Q Tron, my first ever filter purchase and one that I'd written off previously! If you get the internal trim pot adjusted just right the distorted quack is fantastic.

If you can find one still, the Chunk Systems Brown Dog works really well with active basses.

The MXR is a great filter too (I own that also). It's got its own character compared to the Mu Tron and clones of this world. The MXR has no down sweep though.

I don't own one but the YouTube videos make the Ashdown sound pretty weak IMO. Personally I'd go for either a second hand big box Q Tron or Enigma Q Balls. I own both and I reckon they can both nail the Mu Tron sound and the bwap down sweep is very strong on either. The Q Balls takes more dialling in though. You can often pick either of themm up second hand for £50-60 if you look around.

Parliament Mothership Connection, Clones of Dr Funkenstein, Motor Booty Affair. In fact many of George Clinton's P Funk albums had some crazy concepts to them!

I have both an OC2 and a Foxrox Octron. I like them both, but if I had to pick one I'd go for the Octron. It tracks better, and is more versatile as it has Octave up as well as down. The OC2 is synthiest though.

Forgot to say I am looking forward to hearing some demos of the Future Impact though.

[/quote] I still love my OS.The ability to create your own patches from scratch and tweak the presets to your liking, plus 50 saveable presets, (the defaults of which are fantastic) puts the Squeezer in a class of its own.The UI IS clunky and complicated but given the range of effects achievable, it's worth the effort.

Still love my Mu-Tron 3x, Emma Discumbobulator, and now prefer an old big box Q Tron over the Mini Q Tron. As Tuco says the down sweep is awesome.The MXR M82 is a lot of fun too.

any really good squelchy filter available today to actually buy in a shop, not some rare boutique pedal where there was only ever 3 made by some guy in a garage in wisconsin, and even then it was unreliable and you cant get the chips anymore and .......

[/quote] Loads of good suggestions in this and the "trouser flapping" thread already, and I wouldn't discount an old school Q Tron, but as it sounds you'd like to try before you buy I'd suggest the MXR M82 BEF. Readily available, super squelchy and easy to dial in.

Just got one based on this thread. I agree it's a great little tuner for the price, tiny size, easy to use, quick to determine the note, and seems very accurate. Thanks for the heads up!

I quite like the sound of the EHX Lumberjack on bass, (sounds better than it does on guitar IMO). Anyone here got one of those?)

I ordered one yesterday too! I really have too many filters but couldn't resist at that price. They were down to the last two when I ordered mine! Hot Rox UK have stocked them at that price previously so worth keeping an eye out on Amazon to see if they get more in stock if anyone else interested.

Phil Jones Bass Double Four user here. 70w but has plenty of low end at low volumes, & it's got enough oomph if I want to play louder. Great sounding amp, and is very compact to boot.

Somebody snap these up quick. I have all three Chunk on my board, if I didn't I'd buy them all again. Three tremendous pedals, and great price too.

The Xerograph and Tru Tron 3x are both still in production. The Chunk pedals appear from time to time on eBay and on these forums. Another option is the EHX Enigma?

The Chunk 00 Funk Mk II (or Octavius Squeezer which shares the same filter circuit) is the squelchiest, gloopiest filter I've ever tried. I own both and they're great pedals. The Iron Ether Xerograph Deluxe is also meant to sound quite similar. Both of these filters can get very extreme sounding. The Mu Fx Tru Tron 3x is also a lot more powerful than the Q Trons or original Mu-Tron, is fat sounding and can get very wet and the down-sweep is really nice and chewy.

[/quote] Envelope Filters are so subjective :0) I prefer the original big box EHX Q Tron or Mini Q Tron over the 3Leaf Proton, (but that's just my opinion). The Bassballs is a very different vocal sounding filter so not really comparable.

I've not tried the EHX Enigma, but it's meant to be able to nail the Mu-Tron sound (which is what the Proton is based on), and do a lot more (a lot more controls and can get very synthy with the distortion engaged). From what I've read of the Enigma it has a bit more of a learning curve, whereas the Proton (which I have owned) is relatively easy to dial in. The Proton won't get as extreme as the Enigma, but is a good approximation of a Mu-Tron, although IMO is not as fat as the Tru Tron) so guess it really depends what sounds you are looking for.

I'd take my Bootsy Space Bass. It'd also double as a handy weapon should there be any unruly locals, and the reflection from the rhinestones could alert nearby ships and planes should I decide to want to leave!

+1 for the little EHX LPB-1 boost pedal. A simple and very cheap solution.

Spoilt for choice but I'd go with Parliament: "P Funk (Wants to get Funked Up)" or "Rumpofsteelskin", or Bootsy's solo stuff such as "Ahh...The Name Is Bootsy Baby", pretty much that entire album but especially the title track or "What's A Telephone Bill"

Effects-wise there's a mix of Mu-Tron, Morley Fuzz Wah, Mu-Tron Octave Divider, Big Muff, Roland Echoplex or Space Echo & Eventide Harmonizer (aka R2FunkU) across these songs.

For more modern effects driven funk music I like a bassist called Dodge. A couple of his albums "Mutronic Injection Deluxe" & "Star Bass Invasion" are both great.

I got my Mu Tron 3x from Thomann, it was assembled in Germany from U.S. parts via A.T. Music Electronix which I guess is a Mu-FX subsidiary company and came with an EU AC two pronged adapter. As you say in Europe Mike can use the Mu Tron brand name but he lost the U.S. trademark many years ago and had to rename it. I kinda like it that we get the Mu Tron name with the vintage logo on a new pedal. I really hope you enjoy the new Mu. It was the pedal that effectively ended my filter quest. [/quote] I had a good look at the Tech21 Red Ripper and very nearly got one on eBay recently. The only reason I didn't is that I've already got a lot of synthy fuzz on my board. I'll have to look at the Source Audio Multiwave though.
