I recently strung my 5'er EADGC, using the original nut. It worked fine, the string tension holds the string near enough in place, and actually helped with lower note bending.

  2.
However, I think that my main issue is that I don't actually jam with anyone.

    I was wondering how long people on here had been playing before they joined a band? Also how long until they actually gigged? What kind of level were you at when you first started playing with others/playing live?
Playing with others is a great way to improve, if you're worried about your ability, find musicians of the same level, and try and improve together.

    I joined a band 18 months after starting bass, we gigged within about 3 months.
    I was still a beginner (still am :huh: :) ) but since being in a band ive learnt alot, definately a big improvement.

  3. 1 bass with case, depending on the bass; an extra battery.

    i think thats it....

  4. Ive had to lend my amp a few times, basically i tell the other bassists that nothing will need adjusting after soundcheck, and if they try to adjust anything i will turn the amp off. Sounds harsh but ive seen people abuse the backline. Some people need to respect other peoples gear more.

  6. Hi, first time poster, and browser here. Found this place thanks to a recent thread on talkbass, where i lurked abit.

    My names Shaun, im 20, ive been playing bass for about 6 years now. I just posted what basses i own in another thread, as for amps at the moment im using an Ashdown MAG300 head with a MAG210T cab for gigging, and a peavey microbass for practicing.

    Its nice to be in a forum full of Brits!

    :)

  7. Hi, i own 4 basses;

    Squire Bronco; My first bass bought for me 6 years ago, if i knew back then what i do now, i wouldve got a better bass, but atleast it was a start.

    Marlin Sidewinder; Currently being badly customised by me, in an attempt to learn more. So far ive de-fretted the neck, filled, smoothed and laquered the fingerboard, sanded the body down and managed to get a dual-jazz pickup like the ones on Am-Dlx P basses.

    SX SJB-LTD2; owned since february, havnt seen another one anywhere, great bass. I recently installed Dimarzio split J's in it.

    Ibanez ATK405; the newest member, my main bass now. The first active bass ive played/owned, so far so good.
