1.
I have seen and noodled on this bass, it's amazing, top chap too. Just relieved Jim of his T-Bird, am collecting it later.

Will post proper feedback in the right place later....!

NBD bump from me!!!
Thanks Julian - see you later...

Re the finish on the bass in question, I don't think anyone above has said that it is definitely a refin, and I doubt anyone could do so from photos alone (well, I certainly couldn't). I think the sentiment of the posts above is "are you sure it's original". Whilst there are characteristics of a Fender finish that are present 99% of the time, there's also considerable variation in Fender QC. Whether that variation extends to the characteristics that have been identified as unusual for an original finish on this bass I couldn't say. Either way, I don't think the OP should simply accept that it's a refin and drop the price, but should get the bass inspected in person by an expert (and not that place in Norwich that calls everything a vintage Fender :) ).
Excellent post Chris.

3.
as far as I know the finish is original , I've had the bass for a while and it was bought from a dealer , under the scratchplate is much the same as this : http://www.eddievegas.com/store/details/19...ASS-1-OWNER.php

Also with the tuners , I have no reason to think they are replacements , what make you think they are ? (I know 1 screw on one tuner is not original as it was missing when I bough the bass so I replaced it myself)

any other comments welcome , I'll try and get better photo's up if anyone is actually interested in buying ?
As you've asked for comments - here's my 10p worth.

Tuners?
Unfortunately the tuners appear to be re-issues/not original... The original ones would have fewer teeth in the gears - from memory I believe it's 21 teeth (I'm at work now so can't check on one of my 60's Fenders). Whereas the ones on your bass appear to have too many to be original ones.

Finish?
From late '62 early '63 onwards there should be a very obvious paint stick shadow inside the body's neck pocket. There doesn't appear to be one on your bass. And the way the red is sprayed, on the back especially, it just doesn't look quite right...sorry if that's a bit vague.

4.
thanks 99ster have u used him can u link me up any of your tracks he's mastered?
He's been doing it since 1969 - just some of the thousands - and he's recommended & used by Phill Brown (of the greatest engineers ever) which is enough for me...

5.
ok cool do u know of any good mastering engineers? how much do they cost usually? and when u say the mix is gash do u mean if the recordings nasty ot if u dont leave enough head room?
thanks
Try the legendary Denis Blackham - you won't get much better...

6.
this is a 'noticed-everyones-bumping-their-own-gear-everyday' bump.

If you cant beat 'em....
I'm sure I speak for a LOT of folks here...
IF I had £6K spare I would have jumped on this right away & bitten your hand off. A fabulous bass.
Good luck with the sale...

7.
...had one of these 30 years ago... had a bass boost button. Blew 4 Celestions in one hit!

Those were the days... :)

Have a bump for a gorgeous piece of wood.

SB
Yes - this one has the famous 'baritone' button...it already delivers loads of BASS - then press the button & you get even more!
:)

8. In answer to the two questions (many thanks for the replies posted already)...

Andy Viccars?
Not far off a legend on this forum - if he's worked on a bass then it will be set-up about as good as it could ever be. Which is why I mentioned that in the OP.

Feedback?
An EB-2 is essentially the bass equivalent of the classic Gibson 335 - a semi-acoustic electric highly valued, for amongst other things, precisely because it doesn't suffer from feedback problems at high volume. It has a centre block inside the body that prevents the resonance that can cause feedback in semi-acoustic guitars.

Thanks for looking at my bass!

9. *** SOLD ***

For sale: 1967 Gibson EB-2

All original - apart from the chrome hand-rest & the pickguard (the two bits that everyone used to take off & lose) which are accurate repro parts. In great condition - no neck breaks, no nonsense & complete with its original Gibson hard case. The adjustable bridge mute is in perfect working order. Set-up to perfection by Andy Viccars - plays beautifully! With a massive tone & output from that big old humbucker - that will shake your walls down! And that's before you hit the baritone button! :)

Looking for a quick sale as something very specific has become available that I need to move on sharpish...so grab a bargain for just £1,400.

Trades - also consider trades - especially for a nice 3/4 double bass...

Collection preferred (I live near J10 of the M40). But can post if required.

10.
Personal stuff but..
It was a definite intention for me after going to see the Clash for the first time and watching Simonon throwing his bass around and looking that cool, how could you not want in!..
......I was a big Public Image Ltd /Jah Wobble fan as well, bass was where it was (and still is) at for me. Thats all it took for a young impressionable 15 year old to get hooked on trying to playing bass.

+1
Paul Simonon.
Never wanted to play anything else but bass - why would you?

11. Guy from another band (he is actually a friend) comes up to me after the gig 'The vocals weren't loud enough out front'
so I ask him if it was like that all the way through the set?
'Yes'.
So you told the sound engineer then?
...blank expression...
Yeah - thanks for your input. Very helpful.
:)

12. Yep - I'd love to know more about the P Bass as well - I'm sure there was a thread about it once on The FDP...

Hi John,

Good to see you on Basschat! Hope all is good with you. I still need to come over to show you my '60 Jazz...
There's some great folks on here - hope you enjoy it.

Cheers

Jim
Just saw this post - fascinating. I just watched Herb Alpert on BBC 4 and his bass player, Pat Senatore, did indeed have a black precision with a painted headstock and a painted neck! This footage was around '66/ '67

Does anybody know anything about this amazing piece? Never seen a matching neck from this period!
